Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has been out for roughly 48 hours (ignoring beta, early access etc). Over all I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, BUT I do have a few issues. This is an open discussion on the game's first week. Please do not be rude to each other or "go to war" with each other with a superiority complex.
I pre-ordered the standard PC version of ESO and picked it up on Friday the day it came out. Popped it in, downloaded it and did all the patching/updates. As soon as I loaded the precious I was careful to take time and put effort into creating my character. I LOVED how many options there were to creating your character. You had faction, race, class etc with a great many options. My friend and I played for a good 14-15 hours from Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, ALL day Saturday, and almost all of today. I enjoyed being able to go through dungeons and quests with the help of other "heroes" when needed, but got annoyed at the spawn time of objectives/bosses for quests when other "heroes" would steal the objective right from under your feet. With MMORPGs, you shouldn't have to wait five minutes to fight another boss, pick up a journal, or us a sacred stone to resurrect a person. On top of that, quests and side quests felt dull and hollow. You run through the world becoming a hero but I don't get any satisfaction from it. Perhaps they could add small cut scenes to quests to add some depth to them or really add "meaning" to the story with the objectives. I found myself asking the question... why would I help these people... why would I care... (the only reason really is to get XP and Gold/Loot). For god's sake give me a reason to be a hero! I wan't to fall in love with the world and story around me...
One of the others (and this is the biggest thing that upset me about the game)things that pissed me off about ESO is the BUGS! Yes I understand it's the first week of release, but that's what a beta is for. To let people find the bugs for you so you can fix them. MMO developers create games with a god like mentality that their servers can't be crashed, and that their games will be bug free the first week. I understand there will still be a few bugs that will find their way in due to there being millions of people online for the first time...My friend and I found a couple last night... no big deal. We played past them and came back to them... still screwy. Today we found them fixed... but today... we also tried to play at least 5 quests (at least 3 of which were main quests) that we couldn't complete because there were bugs that were main objectives. It's extremely frustrating when you hear, rave and almost piss yourself with excitement about a game coming out, it comes out... you pay at least $75 for and you can't play the main quests because they are all bugged. You have equipment problems, quest problems, log in issues, and on top of that.. subscription issues. I don't know if it's truly a problem with it just being the first week of release, laziness of the creators, or some sorcery from another dimension, but it is truly disappointing.
Other than the quests being hollow and the bugs... it is truly an Elder Scrolls game. I love the world of Tamriel they set you in, the faction base, the weapons, the armor, the abilities etc... It is a well rounded and thought out game that just needs a little fixin'.
I would really like to know what you all think about the game now that we are 48 hours in. Again, please be respectful of me and each other. We are all allowed our own opinion!
