I couldn't find this topic, but I assume it probably already exists, but anyway, After watching all of released material concerning the 'Elderscrolls Online' game, I think we finally have a legitimate contender to eventually topple and take over from WoW's decade long reign of the MMO world. As both a longtime WoW player, and recent Elderscrolls participant, I can honestly see, the potential for the game to be big and complicated enough to be the next big one, It already has, with it's long time reputation, enough of a fan base to pull an initial crowd, as well as the MMO demographic which is aching for a NEW challenge. I guess what I'm saying is that, I want it to be huge, I want it to be new, I want this one to do what so many others have tried to do, and be the new Big MMO. Not sure if I really have a question here, but does anyone agree with me?

I could see it maybe overtaking WoW in a couple years, especially considering the recent drop in WoW players and how insanely popular Skyrim got. But I don't think it will ever be as popular as WoW was in its heyday.

WoW is already falling. People are already moving off to other games (read: LoL), it won't take much more to knock WoW off its perch.

There's so much in TES:O that hasn't been developed or documented, we'll only tell if TES:O will become the WoW Killer when it releases or when theres a big ass Beta Event. (Though i won't deny that it has the potential)

WoW's been falling for ages yet it still strives despite many releases of other MMOs. Im pretty sure GW2 was being documented as the WoW Killer but in the end it hasn't done such a thing.

As for LoL... citation needed. I HIGHLY doubt its falling.

Not a chance. There is no "WoW killer" and any MMO developer who thinks they can make one should be summarily sacked because they are dangerously delusional.

The Old Republic couldn't rival WoW, despite coming from a (at the time) much loved rpg studio, and having perhaps the biggest franchise in geekdom behind it. The crossover market between single player RPGs and MMOs just isn't that big, and TOR is absolute proof of that.

Guild Wars 2 couldn't rival WoW, despite coming from a much loved MMO studio, being a sequel to a much loved MMO, and perhaps most importantly, being widely regarded as very very good.

World of Warcraft is an anomaly, a game so freakishly successful it distorts the expectations of the entire genre. There will never be another WoW, not even Blizzard could do it - that lightning doesn't strike twice. It has dips in its playerbase that would wipe out any other MMO and yet it trundles on regardless.

A year from launch TESO will be lucky if it's sitting at a million regular players. If they're aiming any higher than that they are doomed to ignominious failure.

Don't you dare say it.....

Do not say "this one will kill WoW".

I'm looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online but every damn MMO before it has had morons yelling "THIS IS THE WOW KILLER" and every single damn MMO has performed terribly.

Too many people are invested in WoW for another game to come along and "kill" it. The only thing that will kill WoW is Blizzard.

Oh, so this will be the WoW killer, eh?

Just like Conan, Warhammer, Rift, Darkfall, Star Wars, Final Fantasy 14, Guild Wars 2 were going to be the WoW killers?

This. If any other MMO was to have even a hope of "dethroning" WoW, it would have been Guild Wars 2. It had a lot of good things going for it. But it was very obvious from long before Guild Wars 2 came out that wasn't going to happen.

The Elder Scrolls has a lot of shortcomings. Lack of interesting major world characters, lack of charm. Some people like it, but don't pretend that everyone will.
