Anyone ever had half the power in their house go out?

At the moment, all that has power is, fortunately, my computer room and my microwave, while the rest of the place is dead. Any ideas on why?

Check your fuse box, maybe the problem lies there, maybe someone decided to be a dick and flick some switches.

They're running on different circuits, or whatever the correct term is. Basically some appliances/rooms will be running on one circuit (go check the fuse box) and others on other circuits.

Or alternatively there was a small surge. But yeah, it sounds like a breaker's gone.

Not sure how Americans houses are wired but try flipping your mains or seeing if one is off if so well turn it on duh. If not try unplugging anything you reccently put in then try the mains again.

Check the fuses. Those usually are the cause of my problem when the power goes out in part of my house.

No! You can't have the microwave, toaster, and the glowy brick thing on all at the same time.

Ahem.

As they've said before, check your breaker, and if you've recently added anything, try unplugging it and see if power stays on. Then plug it back in, if it goes off again, you have your culprit.

gonna have to agree with everyone and say you popped a breaker in the house, if this happens a lot i'm going to have to say you need to do some rewiring in your house or at least move some stuff off different plugs

His fridge is off, man! How will his HotPockets and ice cream and what-have-you stay not disgusting? Sure, he's fine for now, but think about the future.

Ok first things first if your microwave and your computer are on the same circuit that is a less than good thing since microwave (if they break) can cause power surges so i'd buy a surge protector for the computer. Now I actually don't know the wiring convention for where you are but at a guess that circuit probably also had your firdge/freezer on it now if your computer is a gaming rig with big PSU or if there are a few items i haven't mentioned and the compressor in the fridge kicked on at the same time you microwaved something then that could have thrown the breaker (at this poin I really hope you have a circuit breaker rather than one of those crappy old fuse boxes.).

So go check the breaker box and look for a switch that is turned off. It would be a good idea to make sure things are turned off when you flick it back on.
