If this happens, I lose quite a few bets. Duke Nukem Forever, Starcraft 2, and Starcraft: Ghost will never be released; which is a bet some friends and I have. However, Spore will have been released, so I'll win one.

Personally, I don't believe in an "end-of-the-world" anyway.
What about when the Sun explodes and incinerates it?
Bagh, that's just technical. Humanity will live on somehow. When I say an "end to the world" I interpret that as an end to humanity. As for the bets, who'll care once we're all dead?

Lol here's a thought, this experiment creates a world wide Zone, like the one in STALKER.

Unlike most doomsday theories, the sun exploding/imploding WILL happen, but not until a couple million years, I think. Am I close? Either way, It'll still be a loooong time before that happens. The question is, will humanity survive until then and will we have the technology and the capability of relocating to another solar system or at least surviving in a giant space station/ship?

P.S. If a STALKER like zone is created, I will not complain. I want something that exciting to happen, haha.

I'm ecstatic over it. Just think about it folks, in little over two centuries, we've come from using steam engines to creating a device capable of ripping apart the smallest particles we've been able to identify. I doubt that we'll meet our end at the hands of the LHC, however, recent photo evidence has confirmed some of my darker fears.

Holy...

Ok so pretty much we are completely screwed. Quick, someone call them and tell them to not let him into the test chamber or near any crystalline samples!

This reminds me of the Atom Bomb test. When the scientists were about to let it drop, they thought of a frightening possibility: the bomb could ignite all the hydrogen in the atmoshpere and burn the world. Guess what - THOSE BALLSY DUDES DID IT ANYWAY! I could imagine being there. I'd say the exact same thing I'd say if I were at the LHC demonstration:

"Let 'er rip."

I'll worry about the end of the world when a 7-headed beast comes out of the ocean and rains down a hell-storm upon the people. Until then, all's that could happen would be catastrophic disasters, but not world-ending events.

I better go out and buy a crowbar.

Part of me really hopes it creates some kind of interdimensional rift.

It's closer to 5-6 billion years, not that it really matters if its millions or billions we wont be around to see it anyway.

Hope they release the information on what happens in a somewhat timely fashion, scientists are not known for their quick experiments though, Especially theoretical particle physicists.

If scientist go out and say there is a 50% chance of this thing going off ( SUPER DUPER UNLIKELY) im going to go out and do all the stuff i wanted to do in life.

You know, sometimes I worry about dying, but this doesn't worry me at all. I suppose I'm not actually afraid of dying, only of being out-survived. I'm just naturally competitive.

Guh. I hate when this kind of shit happens.

Serousily people, if the world ended every time it was supposed to we would have all died at least 8 times in the short ammount of time I have been on this planet.

If it causes the end of the world, I can only hope it looks this awesome.

Everybody just relax. The events created within the LHC happen all over the place all the time, including right near Earth, caused by cosmic rays. This stuff happens all the time. The only difference is that inside the LHC they'll be able to induce it deliberately, and observe closely.

So don't cancel your appointments for the day after they throw the switch.

It's been in the news recently that the world will end in like 7 or 8 days due to the Large Hadron Collidor which smashes atoms ( i think ) together at incredible speeds and will recreate the big bang. Its rumored that this could cause black holes to appear and destroy the planet. I really don't know what to think.. I would like to know what all you folk think about it all, to be quite honest I really don't care but I'm interested in your views.
Honestly... This is my dream... To be on earth on its last day. The best way for that to happen is a black hole. The view of it, being torn down to subatomic particles... I think it would be awesome.
If you think I'm crazy, look at this people running this world, look at the state it's in. If the world is screwed anyway, why not go out in a spectacular way?

Oh great, just what I needed, another apocalyspe theory. If I remember right, the scientist told the chance of this happening is like winning the lottery 3 times in a row.
