Weirdly enough I just finished kuromukoru and thought "for the love of god do not fuck with this"

OT: final fantasy x, heroes (should have delayed making the thing while the writers strike was on, it died hard in series 2)

Oh here's a few more that I thought of
Land Before Time there should have been only one period. Instead of the nearly twenty they tried to ram down the peoples throat with that godawful singing shit.
Lion King 2 Even when I was a child I knew this was a mediocre movie that's why I never bothered watching it again.
Insidious 2: A lesson for how to not make a good movie. Take out every little thing that made the first so enjoyable and also explain every bit of mystery that might have once existed in that movie. Oh and make your horror movie be not scary. Oh and also make the ending to the first completely fucking meaningless
Dumb and Dumber to: First they tried a horrible prequel attempt that I didn't even watch then they decided to make a horrendously mediocre sequel that was just painful to watch since I was really looking forward to it.

JoJo's Bizzare Adventure.

Phantom Pain and Battle tendency were great, and Stardust Crusaders was passable, but Diamond is Unbreakable is filler garbage.

Within the single entry of Limbo, I thought there was a way better place it could have ended, with the player smashing through the glass near the end. It almost looks like that was the original intent, like the game would perform a big infinite loop after that point and really live up to its own title... BUT I guess we have to get the dumb happy ending instead.
Depends on if you consider it a happy ending. Especially when you notice the title screen has a treehouse with a broken ladder and two small fly clouds nearby, which provides some counterpoint to that end scene.

Back to the Future could have just had the one movie. The second movie was alright I suppose, and the less said about the third the better.

I always say that Death Note should have ended at five minutes before the end of episode 25, and then skip to episode 37's last five minutes. Basically trade out L's death for Light's. Hell, even just L dying would have been better than what we got, until we get to Light's death.

Earth. Every episode past the Roman empire just became repetitive.

The Last of Us. There is no reason to have another one, the ending of the first one was perfect in my opinion, anything else just feels unnecessary. It could be good, I'm just a young fart that appreciates a good end, and feels that an end is cheapened by continuing the story. It's not as satisfying to me.

Ratchet and Clank could have stopped a while ago, but I'd say when I lost interest was after A Crack in Time.

I have more, I'm just sick and at work and don't know what else to say.

I liked that Matrix movie. It is a pity they never made any sequel to that.

Die Hard With a Vengeance should have definitively ended that series. It managed to be fairly good, and did a nice tie-in with Alan Rickman's excellent villain (RIP you magnificent bastard) and tied that up perfectly. Everything afterward was so forgettable.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was a perfect sendoff for the series and character. And lets face it, Jones was at his best contending with Nazis for Christian artifacts.
But then there was no further sequels after Crusade so I don't know why I even brought it up.

Considering I just finished playing for the first time a few weeks back, I agree. I can't really think of any way to make a sequel that wouldn't be either a.) Ellie being hunted for 90% of the game or b.) a repeat of the first game.

Really, it's ending fit the game perfectly. Don't ruin it by trying to squeeze a sequel out.

Honestly, as much as I enjoy the souls games, Treating DS2 and DS3 like sequels feels like a bad idea. DS1 has a great ending once you understand what it means. DS2 tried to pick up from the Link the Fire ending and ends up only partially working, but mostly feeling like a retcon. DS3, from what I understand, went for more of a direct sequel to 1 but still ends up kind of repeating and retconning the first game. It feels like it makes more sense to treat DS2 and DS3 like possible futures from DS1. Time being convoluted and all that jazz.

And honestly, I can't say I want Bloodborne 2. There doesn't seem like there's a point, other then opening the door for silly sequel names like Bloodborne 2: The Bloodening or Bloodborne 2: The Revengence of the Blood. Or perhaps Bloodborne 2: BLUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDD and EYES!!!!!!!

My nominee is Buffy, the comics specifically. I may like the show a lot, but the comics, well, they just didn't feel the same. Same thing with Angel.

I can nominate:

-Aliens: Okay, here's the thing with the first three Alien films...you could end the series at any one of them. Alien doesn't need a sequel, Aliens doesn't need a sequel, Alien 3 doesn't need a sequel, Resurrection doesn't need a sequel. That said, of the four, I think ending at Alien 3 would be the most appropriate.

Now, I don't deny that may be unpopular, but I've always considered Alien 3 to be criminally underrated, at least based on the Assembly Cut. And like I said, you could have ended it earlier and not lost anything. Still, I feel the first three films form a nice trilogy, with each film having a different 'essence,' and each film being executed quite well, even if Alien and Aliens are notably better than Alien 3. But Resurrection doesn't quite fit this arc. Not in terms of time period, not in terms of protagonist, not in term of themes. So, I don't think the Alien universe had to end at 3, but for me, Alien 3 did a nice job of closing out Ripley's story. She goes from innocent space trucker (Alien), to badass space warrior (Aliens) to war-weary leader (Alien 3). Like I said, I'm more charitable to Alien 3 than most, but IMO, Resurrection isn't needed in the arc in question.
I agree with you that Alien 3 has some good ideas and themes and it was a good way to end Ripley's Story in a satisfactory manner. It's a good, though a flawed, movie. I also noticed that each movie in the trilogy has a different colouring. First one has this sterile white/grey environment, Aliens is blue and Alien 3 has yellow/orange/brown theme going for it.
Also, based on what I've seen of Alien: Covenant, it doesn't look promising.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - I think the End of Evangelion wrapped things up nicely after Gainax ran out of money for the actual anime. Then the franchise somehow got more and more popular to the point of getting the funding for a movie continuation. Which I always thought was entirely unnecessary. Now, I do Enjoy 1.11 as far as it goes as an hd remake of the anime, but then 2.22 added whats-her-face with the pink plugsuit and managed to end on what I consider a high point for an unnecessary piece of media. And then 3.33 came along and time skipped us 14 years into the future for no reason and introduced a bunch of bullshit that likely won't get resolved in 4.44 cause anno is spending too much time on godzilla and will shit out some way to end the franchise that will leave a sour taste in everybodys mouth and likely make a fuck load of money and ruin the franchise forever.

FLCL - When I saw the news (around this time last year) that Toonami and Production I.G. were going to remake and then make 2 new seasons of FLCL I nearly threw up. It is a perfect example of a closed narrative and something that will be ruined by sequels.

Tron - the only good thing about Tron Legacy is Olivia Wilde

Final fantasy 10 and 13. There was no reason for final fantasy10:charlies angels edition ( FFX-2) or completely retconning FF13s ending.

My one will be a tad controversial, but Supernatural you know that show about those brothers that shoot salt at ghosts? Yeah, that one.

Loved it, adored it even. Spirits and such really tickle my fancy, and I enjoyed the modern wild west feel it gave.

But it should have ended at Season 5. I remember watching the ending and going 'Wow, they wrapped up everything, even thematically'.
Then I started watching Season 6 and I was all 'Wait, this is dumb, this is shit'. It's like having closure then some asshole rips it back open.
I later discovered it was meant to end with Season 5 but MONEY happened.

Yeah, didn't watch past a couple of episodes into Season Six. Don't think I ever will. Made me mad as all hell.
And it IS STILL going on!! Part of me is curious to see how badly it has derailed since they introduced the whole angels vs demons bullshit but the other part of me wants to preserve the fondness I have for those first five seasons. Supernatural was really a fantastic monster of the week series at one point, and the underlying story they had going with it was satisfying from start till end.

Anyway, mine would be Infamous: Second Son. Infamous 2 is a wonderful sequel to a wonderful first game that ended the whole series on a powerful note. But then Second Son arrived and proceeded to shit all over it because Sony desperately needed PS4 launch titles.

Cole is stuck with the knowledge that humanity will die from an incurable disease conduits (mutants basically) are immune to, and the macguffin he acquired can cure it but it will also kill all the conduits in the world, so he is stuck with two choices: Either sacrifice himself and all conduits in the world for humanity, or further a conduit uprising started by the big bad.

Both endings are amazing and pack such an emotional punch, but the good ending (which is considered canon officially) was just perfect. Cole performs the biggest sacrifice possible by giving up his life and the life of every other conduit for humanity, its a truly bittersweet moment and the best ending possible for his character. Further debate about the philosophies behind his decision set aside.

And then Second Son came and oh! That ending where it was made clear as hell that conduits are forever gone because of the biggest, most powerful decision a character you emotionally invested in for two games made? Well fuck you, conduits were never gone, Cole wasted his life and time with his shit decision hahahaha, and you'll buy this because our console has fuck-all games and Killzone is shit

I hope to hell we never see another Infamous. The series ended perfectly and Second Son was unnecessary.

Dodgeball: It should've ended when the character, played by the guy from Office Space (my stapler!), got angry, and solo'd the match to victory.

I'm sorry but that for me, was the true ending of that film. It was just so awesomely done. This nice guy, being shit on by everyone in his life, finally letting himself feel his own frustrations and go off....it was just fantastic. The shit at the end with Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller was lame by comparison.

On FF X, it got worse. X-2 was tolerable if unnecessary but Square just keep meddling with it and adding more crap onto Spira.

I have never felt that a story would be better off without a sequel, people who think that there isn't room for a sequel simply lack the imagination to make it happen. There is no such thing as a work that can't use a sequel or doesn't have room for it, it's simply a lack of effort that causes terrible sequels. Crappy sequels with crappy endings exist for the reason all crappy cash cows exist, because someone saw something popular which they decided take an unrelated crappy script and slap that thing's name on it so they could sell it. That, and I'd much rather have a crappy sequel with a crappy ending that force me to stop giving a damn than to have my brain constantly screaming "MORE!!! MORE!!! MORE!!!"

That said, there are some terrible endings that left me particularly unsatisfied. Everybody knows Mass Effect 3's ending by now so I'll just skip that, but Final Fantasy 13-2 was just as bad. It was basically "FUCK YOU player!!!" Good guys die, bad guy wins and the good guy was going to die and the bad guy win no matter what so the good guys might as well have stayed in bed the rest of their lives and never did anything. Worse is that the game has multiple endings, ALL of which have the bad guy win, even the hardest ending to get which even has the bad guy address the player to mock us outright for ever even BOTHERING to try to get an ending where he doesn't win. When an ending makes skipping straight to the next sequel and completely ignoring that the game exists seem like the much more appealing option there's something seriously wrong. Hell, the game was fine up to that point, then it's ending retroactively makes everything the player does pointless.

In my view, there should be no such thing as a downer ending, it's in the name. Any ending even the ones where the protagonists lose or are the villains should give the impression that there is room for to get better or there is no point to the work in the first place. Bittersweet at least or nothing in short.

Oh another one: The Office, US version. Why even bother stretching things past Michael's departure? The show was always 80% him.
