Gankers. Especially in WoW where the player is several levels higher than you. Seriously that kills the fun in any adventure that I've had.

Speaking of which, everything on Timeless Isle. It is near impossible to make any sort of progress on that island when nearly every enemy is elite, you're flagged for PvP, people on the opposite faction kill you, and people on *the same faction* kill you. I can never understand why Blizzard thought that would be a fun idea for both the killer and the killed. There was no one who ever wanted to assist me in quests because they're all busy in that lame arena wanting to slay whatever Pandaren god thing was up.

I should note that the PvP Battlegrounds are a different story for me. I tend to like those better because 1. I'm with other people and 2. I don't have high expectations for myself.

The Feral Ghoul Reavers in Fallout 3 that came with the Broken Steel Expansion were seriously overpowered. It's been a while since I played the game so maybe they made them easier to combat. But seriously, they could absorb a ridiculous amount of damage and they threw radioactive segments of themselves at you, even with power armour in excellent condition and numerous stimpacks, if there was more than 2 in any given locale you were done for. The main reason I had to stop playing was that I got stranded in an underground subway tunnel with many of them, along with automated security measures as well. I made the mistake of not backing up my save profile and got stuck in a bad position. I'm not sure if I'll ever manage to maneuver out of it. Oh well.

I almost made it to the 25th without DS2 spoilers until this thread.

My answer is the Medusa heads in oh so many Castlevania games.
