Right, because using uranium is totally safe as we all know.
This is the attitude that's going to kill us. Its either we burn our ozone and run our planet dry or we take a chance with Nuke power. Honestly nuke plants are safe as can be if done properly. Everyone thinks Chernobyl and Fukishima when it comes to nuke power, those are rare cases that just show the less prepared countries shouldn't be allowed to use nuke power or have it run by someone else. Besides if you want a good example of nuclear power at work look at France, they have it down to a T.

So we can´t cite Chernobyl as an example of the dangers of nuclear power being handled poorly, because it was actually caused by nuclear power being handled VERY poorly..... thanks for clearing this up.

I´m actually in favor of nuclear power (though much more in favor of heavily investing in research aimed at making nuclear power redundant), but you can´t just walk around declaring such events irrelevant because the people in charge were morons.
Because according to my very conservative estimate, morons will remain a problem on this planet for QUITE some time.
At no point did the person I quote say it was because of nuclear power being handled poorly, he just said it happened because it was nuclear power. Which as you also stated is wrong.

I still don't get why solar power isn't more widely used. Sure they aren't the cheapest thing in the world to use, but that doesn't explain it. It IS practical fuel. It would take a state the size of Tennessee to power the entire U.S. That's...not that much, considering that we could just take up all the desert in Arizona and such. Plenty of sun there with few people. Who really cares if a few people have to move somewhere else if America could gain complete energy independence from it.

Please, contain yourselves gentlemen. The fact is that nuclear energy is hands down, far and away, THE safest form of energy production.

Please, educate yourself before you speak on a topic. Not because ignorance makes someone look foolish, but because spreading misinformation drags down other persons uneducated in the details of a subject.
Thank you. You saved me from doing this myself.

You know, our energy crisis was solved years ago by things like solar power, wind power, geothermal power, hydroelectric power and a host of other types.

The only reasons we haven't switched aleady is greed and stupidity.
