Here you go matey.

Also notice the areas labeled "Yorkshire and Humber", "north east" and "north west" (in descending order of awesomeness).

This is the North. It is known for its grimness. And darkness.

People from overseas should be aware that the north is the best part of England. It is also even less like the stereotype of England than the south. This is fact, and enforced with violence.

Is there a difference between Britain and Great Britain ?

@cuddly_tomato great map, thanks :)
It's called Great Britain to distinguish it from Brittany, which is the northwesternmost peninsula of France. It's a bit more obvious in french; brittany is Bretagne, britain is Grande Bretagne.

So who does that little island in between Northern Ireland and England belong to?
Thats the Isle of Mann, Im not totally sure but I think it belongs to itsself, it has its own government anyway.

OT: Im sure a few people from Northern Ireland would disagree with it eing in the UK, but I would consider purplepixie to be correct here:

Funny you should say that, since in french people from GB are called britanniques (sounds a lot like Brittany) but people from Brittany are bretons...oh well :)

It makes sense though, the Great to be sure there's no confusion (and hey, GB used to be great ;) )

The Cornish like to claim they are a separate nation to England, even though that's not been the case since about the 8th century, and even have songs to the effect.

I studied down there for a year, there kinda nuts but in a pleasantly weird way.

Hey...what do you mean used to be? *Takes a look around* Shit, you're right, we'd better go and invade some poor fuckers and be quick about it, (without those trigger happy cousins of ours), since that seems to be what qualifies as being "Great" on an international scale.

So,

Someone tried to explain to me the difference between the 3 and i wanna see if i got it right.
England is the southern part of the island (minus Wales)
Britain is the whole main island
The United Kingdom is the island plus northern Ireland

Is that it ?
Correct ...oh, England also includes the Isle of Wight (its a small island shortly off the coast).

I meant no offense ;) lately though i seldom hear anything positive about the UK, most people seems discontent for a reason or another (more than other western countries anyways)

You also used to rule most of the world (yes, militarily, but it seems that's what matters as you said...) not so long ago.

Almost. You have to remember that the UK is classed as a corporation, it is financial.

The full name of our country is the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'

But yes you have got it right. It is also good to note that everyone from Ireland, Wales, England and Scotland are technically British because they all live on the British isles. Though the Republic of Ireland voted for it's independance from the UK government early last century.

None taken, I was joking around too. What you have to remember is that we British types love to complain about things, our own coutry in particular. There is a reason the aussie call us "whinging poms".

I think your second paragraph has a lot to do with it. Not too long ago we called the shots on about 25% of the earths land surface, everything we do now seems a bit lame by comparison and we've managed to convince ourselves that we are a bunch of useless failures (unless someone from another country says something similar in which case we are always better than them in whatever respect)
