Thomas woke up casually.

I guess that is an advantage I have.

He had never been a deep sleeper and in the film industry he was often woken up when things in the production changed in the middle of the night and they needed to be there.

He stretched then felt a significant aching pain across the side of his back. He sat up and saw that he had been sleeping on a wooden offshoot of the rat trap they called a bed.

Yes, the life of luxury.

He smiled, just glad that they were on the move at last. He walked quickly and quietly to the platform.

I wonder when the hell I'm going to get something to eat.

He passed Gar and noticed the dried blood on his chin.

What happened to him?

Collins mind began to stir from its slumber as the loud movement of boots pounding the floor, she adjusted to the sound and drifted off once more into a dreamless sleep. It was then that the harsh voice of a man cut like a knife into her head and vapourised the dream she was having, it was as though a bucket of cold water was being poured over her head "Wake up, peons!" . She turned on her side instictively trying to hide from the noise to no avail, she turned over onto her stomach and hoisted herself up with her elbows and managed a sluggish grumble as her mind began to clear, despite the rude awakening it was over fast, a vast improvement over the shrill voice of her mother

Having gone to sleep the moment they had been dismissed the previous day she didnt feel all that tired besides 5AM was nothing to a Farm girl. She rose from the bed in her full kit including those heavy boots which seemed to to hurt her ankles and rub against her skin making it raw, it was always warmer to sleep fully clothed. She took of her boots and rubbed her ankles to sooth them, her kit was ridiculously too large for her but she had managed to make it presentable on her with an assortment of strategic bobby pins, her main problem this fine morning was those blasted boots. Astrid gave it some thought and then took out the bobby pins on her trouser legs and tucked her feet into them while wrapping the excesses legging around her ankle and then placed the boots on them, it wasn't ideal but it would do for now, what she really needed was new boots, or else sixteen pairs of socks, whatever came first.

She wasn't even small, maybe her local recruiment centre only expected the men to sign up, or maybe it was lack of materials so they made one size for all, hell they weren't even properly trained, a broom stick with the end sawed off was what they used to practice drills, ammo hadn't been issued to her, let alone an actual rifle, she had fired a rifle on four seperate occasions before being shipped out. A thought crossed through her mind, where would she get a weapon? did she have to ask for one? would they be issued out at the station?, she glanced around the room at the others, most if not all that she could see had a weapon of some sought, hell, one of them carried an entire armoury on his back and...was..was that a cross-bow? what is this, the middle ages? she half expected to be given a Mace or a Pike to do battle with the Yankees now.

She sighed as she got up and flattened some stray blond hairs on her head, her hair was finaly becoming long again and opened her bag, taking a small square shaped sandwich wrapped in paper from it she took a small bite as she hoisted the bag onto her back and walked onto the station to stand in line.

sorry for the delay, i have tests this week, my posts might be a bit sporadic till Wednesday but it shouldn't be too bad.

Ana looked over at Gar. "Seems you sleep as well as I do." she said taking her cigarette out of her mouth. "I can tell when someone doesn't get much sleep. Hell no matter how much booze you drink you wake up when you have a nightmare. I use to try that and it never works." Ana said putting cigarette back in her mouth.

J'aime had expericed this sort of wake up call before. Things used to get busy back at the hospital and you had to be up quick and ready to perform high stress procedures. Peoples lives depended on it. She sprung from her bunk barely missing the top as if second nature. She slipped into what she had been told was her uniform, kicked her boots on, and ran out to the platform.

Making her way urgently, she stood with the others. Her eyes were wide and her heart rate rapid. Adrenaline was pumping through her already as if half expecting something bad to have happened. Even though she hadn't slept well that night it didn't matter at this moment, but she was certain to feel its toll later. Her eyes couldn't help but dart around, tallying each person there as if she were taking inventory. Thankfully, all were present from the people she had seen yesterday at the barracks. Gradually, J'aime began to calm.

Gar kept looking forward, his chin high and his spine straight.
"My nights have been empty for months, while that's a good thing to keep my mind on the matter at hand, it also makes me wonder if I will ever recover from this war... mentally and physically."

Truth is, I'm going to die. Soon. I just want to do something before it happens
He kept the last part to himself, not wanting to reveal too much about him. To remain alive, he was going to have to kill himself from within, day by day. But he was okay with that. One man could make a difference at the right time and the right place, and if he could be that man, his death could save thousands.
"But all I hope is that there will be people that be saved from misery, and will remember us."

Emerson made his way out to the platform himself, some of the others still behind him getting dressed. Most of the troops were chatting away, rubbing their tired eyes and yawning whilst others spoke at them.

"Shuddup! Make a proper line and stop the chin-wagging. Learn a bit of discipline. Most of you lads should bump up your game, the women are currently bolstering ahead in my good books whilst you mope about", Emerson smirked, looking toward Gar, "or spend the whole night cleaning the obvious phallic representations that are your firearms. Chin up, wake up, man up. We haven't got time for your nonsense!"

Only taking a quick break in his rant to accept the coffee the "knackered" looking Robin offered him, Emerson quickly turned back to the crew.

"The AC here spent most of the night cataloging and sorting our cache of weapons, ammo and general shite so you lot can get stocked and ready to fight in the big, bad war. Which means that any weapons you may have now will be confiscated! Yes, that's right. Don't look so glum. There is no 'I' in team. There is also no 'fuckwit' in team, so stop acting like ones. Dump any pistol, rifles, machine guns, rocket-launchers, sniper rifles, grenades, mines, turrets AND crossbows...", he paused once more to take a look at Nadia, "...in the box to my left, WHEN instructed to. You will all be issued with weapons in due course, so don't cry and moan that you can't get your fill of Yankee-killing."

Emerson took a step back, giving Robin a "did I do any good?" look before stuffing his hands in his rather brown trousers and looking toward the troopers once more.

"Any questions?"

Rufus raised his hand. "When and what are the breakfast arrangements, sir?"
He then thought for a few seconds. "And when and what is our first duty? Sir."
Secretly, he was glad that the military types were being deprived of their weapons. It would be good to watch them squirm.
And maybe gets some sense through their likely-thick skulls.

Gar stepped forward from the line and drew out his 9mm.
"Sir, no sir."
All I want is this nightmare to be over...

J'aime realized she was one of the odd ones without any firearms. It made her feel a little uneasy as she just stood still while the others gave up their weapons. Then she pondered whether she was supposed to be issued a weapon too.

Do they expect me to grab a gun too? Or am I just supposed to stand? Yeah, I'll just sit tight. No supposed to be carrying weapons anyways.

Johann could feel his pistol heavy in his back pocket, and knew at once that he had no intention of giving it up.

It's a symbol of my past and what I'm here to do; I'm not leaving it just because some officer who's too big for his boots wants me to.

He stood entirely still and waited for the others to surrender their own weapons.

Robin gave the one stepping forward a look of dissaproval.

"Back in line, recruit." He said.

Confusement. I thought Javelin here didn't want to relenquish his gun, thus reacted faulty. Edited for great failure.

Thomas stood still.

How many of these guys had weapons to begin with?

He noticed J'aime standing alone as well. As tempting as it was to walk over to her, he stayed still.

No sense in giving those officers an excuse to make an example of me.

He still was worried about training. Were they just going to be handing them random weapons at the front? Were things that bad?

"Come on now, we don't need anyone getting angry. You people need to learn who is in charge. We're here to make sure you don't get shot. We're not doing this just to piss you off, so you need to let go of any overblown idea you've got wrapped up in your heads that are keep you attached to your weapons."

Emerson nodded to Robin as he took a sip of his coffee, before swiftly jerking his head back. It would seem that the coffee may have been a little bit too hot for Emerson's liking.

"Regardless, let go of your ties. You are not children, this is not simulator and any bullets flying toward you are not made of rubber. Learn to take note of our orders now and in the future your lives might be saved. Careless idiocy costs lives."

Waking up rapidly, Mick was used to military mornings and stood to attention rigidly while Emerson gave his speech.
He gave a mental groan as he was asked to surrender his weapons.
He noticed Johann not surrenduring anything; he understood why. That pistol of his had been through much with him, and, like Mick's own ASP, had a certain sentimental feel.
"Yes, sir." Mick replied, undoing the strap on his Spectre and handing in the Submachine gun.
The makeshift leather strap he could fit to other weapons, so he kept hold of it.

Good thing the ASP is designed for concealability.. Mick thought, his small pistol well hidden in his pocket.

"Sir, I have a question Sir." Mick said after giving over his SMG.
"Sir, why do we have to surrender the weapons we are already proficient with, sir?" He asked Emerson as he walked past.

Mich was trembling slightly as he askedt he question, but not visibly.
He was sure he looked normal, but he felt a little buzz.
It was adrenaline kicking in early.
He always had that feeling before the prospect of a combat scenario.
In a sense, he had become addicted to war.
He often wondered whether it was wrong to get a kick of out violence, but he figured if there was a hell, he'd already have a one-way first-class ticket so he may as well take as many Americans with him on the trip.

Thomas saw the sense in obeying the orders of Emerson.

I may have fled more gunfights than anyone else in this force but I've never fought. If I ignored these guys I would probably march right into a machinegun. I wonder if they saw action on the beaches? No, they would have been killed. France? Maybe... They sure as hell know more about war than I... do...

As he was thinking this he began to tremble.

Oh god, what have I signed up for! I didn't even need to enlist, I could have just went North.

He punched himself mentally for even thinking that.

I cannot forget Cadiz. I won't standby useless again.

He felt ill but made a supreme effort to stop his legs from shaking, standing stiff and tall when the officer past by his row again.

I'm such a goddamned coward.

As Emerson pondered what they could eat so he could reply to Rufus' question, Mick interrupted his train of thought. Not that he'd gotten anywhere, considering toast was the best breakfast option he could think of.

"It's more of a matter of working as a team, as cheesy as it may sound to you lot. Imagine if we're pinned in a close-quaters scenario and all we have are ten troopers who can use snipers. We'd be shot to hell. That, and there's the issue of ammo. We have set weapon types with set ammo in the cache, fitted to purpose. We won't be able to supply you if you run out. Think logically, folks."

Gar took one step back, falling in line with his comrades again.
Slowly and silently, he reloaded his pistol twice, gathering the bullets and placing them in his pocket, he cocked the gun, grabbed it by the barrel and held it by his side. If he was being denied giving it up himself, someone else could just take it from him.

Games... I hate games. Just get on with it

I assumed the slap was received because Emerson said to give up the firearms when he ordered to. I saw that, just thought I'd act this out differently.

Johann felt torn, he had known that he was going to have to take orders if he came here, yet giving up his pistol felt like he was throwing away a part of himself. He remembered a couple of months ago showing his son Lukas how to load and fire the weapon; the young boy excitedly making him promise that one day the gun would belong to him. He noted that a couple of other recruits had already given up their own, including Mick handing in his submachine gun, though knowing the experienced soldier Johann thought it was very likely that he had atleast one other firearm concealed somewhere on him.

"Got nothing here to give away, sir!" he said aloud to the nearest officer.

A little confused by Emerson's request for those with weapons to turn them in, Katrina kept her thoughts to herself. That Mick guy had a point. Why should the armed members of the team give up the weapons they knew how to use? What if they were given guns with which they had no training? Of course, that was a problem for her just as much as anyone else, as she had never held a gun in her life.

Complying with Emerson's demand was easy for Katrina, so she simply stood in line, head bowed and inwardly apprehensive - near to the point of panic - over what she expected to come in the foreseeable future.
