Has there ever been a time when you've hit/encountered the fail button so hard on a game you've had to laugh at yourself and/or the game in disbelief?

I just had this playing Deus Ex.

I got owned on the training mission. Yep.

I dropped a crate of TNT, not knowing I had to crouch to do this as the game's inexplicably laggy tutorial messages only told me this after I blew my legs and arms off.

Then spent the next 20 minutes agonisingly slowly crawling around a large room like a crippled snail while constantly being shot at by the guard robot who couldn't finish me off because, well, it was just the training level and the game thought it was being nice to me. I've never wished for death in a game so much....

Equal parts fail by me and by the game, I had to laugh.

Don't worry, I'm not that great at Deus Ex either...

Everytime I play TF2 and I fall of a cliff suddenly. It makes me feel a bit special >_>

Bloodlines: The Masquarade

Strolling peacefully through an abandoned, haunted hotel for the frst time, being slightly creeped out by the nice atmospher, clinging to my gun and often finding myself shooting at shadows and images I coul swear that have been there for a moment there before.

Eventually I crawl through a ventilation shaft into a elevator space. And I hear a faint, whispering voice saying "Be carefull...", so sared lil' me looks around with my gun at the ready. "Hey, whats that loud, rumbling sound?"
A second later I was smashed by a falling elevator.

I did something similar in Deus Ex. In the last section of the tutorial I accidentally shot a box of TNT. It destroyed the robot but also blew off both my legs and I had to crawl to the exit.
Another time while playing IL2 I flew behind an enemy plane only to forget it had a rear turret. On discovering this I swerved out of the way only to total both mine and my wingman's plane.

Yeah, I saw that on an LP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQbNVybCltg

Hilarious, especially when he used 2 medkits that went directly to his head and torso and not the badly needed legs.
Part 11? Still on the first mission?

I knew that mission was long, but didn't think it took that long to finish the statue...

OT: Hmm... One time I was playing Left 4 Dead 2, and we were running along the bridge at the end and I turned around to shoot some zombies who were chasing me and ran off the bridge.

So I was left dangling and two of the other people had already died because the tank smacked them off moments before.

They weren't too happy at me having run off the bridge.

How long have you got? Well I'll give three that immediately come to mind, mainly for their simultaneous hilarity and humiliation.
When I ignorantly tried to kill Umbra at level 2 on Oblivion... never again... Suffice to say I was dead on the second hit. When Skyrim comes out, I'm just going to poison apple (if they're still in it) someone who has nice-looking stuff or at least find some way to weaken them first before I try and kill them.

Hardcore Search and Destroy in CoD4; I had an M1911 with a full magazine and got the drop on the last guy in their team; I managed to fire off all eight shots without hitting him at practically point blank before he pistolled me in the head once. I was the last player on my team, so there were a lot of berating voices and I deserved it; there was no excuse, I just failed epically.

I remember losing a massive base on Total Annihilation because I forgot to build ground defences; I AA (which can dual-role reasonably well, but I didn't have that many) and plenty of long range artillery, but nothing to combat close range ground threats or radar to even detect them approaching. Worst part was at the time, most of my land forces were away, so there was practically nothing defending the base; the only reason I survived is because I had my commander D-Gun'd their commander and the resulting nuclear explosion wiped out his entire army, along with half my base. So yeah, I actually caused the loss of base, but I would have otherwise lost everything. The worst part was that the AI were on the easiest setting too...

I was playing Quake 3 in school yesterday since it's the last few days, I was on a space level(I forget it's name) and when I was about to kill someone I back off and fall off the edge, my performance just went slowly downhill from then.

After clearing both the 3rd and 2nd floors of Vault 15 in Fallout 2, breezing through the boss fight, I died somewhere around 15 times on the 1st floor, when leaving. No matter what I tried, there where 2 enemy raiders that ran up to me and spread a burst in my face, that usually did between 40 and 120 damage (I had 77 HP and most enemies damaged me for 3-7 points).

Almost ragequit, but I was able to past the part by using a save game bug and I -STILL- lost one of the guys in my group (the one who could carry the most, sadly).

Epic fail part? This was on EASY Combat Difficulty.

What? DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT!!!

Also, as a bonus: Missing somebody with a knife in Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Whelp, I've been ninja'd by the OP.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when I first played Deus Ex. I still remember painfully draggin myself along the corridor of holograms.

Was using a new texture pack for minecraft.
Had an underwater bubble base made of glass. Thought I was placing and then using a furnace. It was TNT. When it started flashing, I noticed my mistake, but didn't have time to run ...

Started a gunfight in Mexico on Red Dead Redemption but was quickly outnumbered. I called my horse, leapt on it mid-gallop...

...and immediately plunged off a cliff I was too stupid to realise was there.
