Let's see here, I work with about 30 other people. Of those only ONE is a female, and as far as her being able to do the entirety of the job, she might be able to. I don't know. Normal heavy lifting isn't an issue with is, it's the team lifting that we're worried about. After all, it's about 100k a box, you want to make sure it gets there in the best condition it can. If it were a straight walk, it wouldn't be an issue, but our ladders are pretty steep.

the "equal opportunities" is crap. Wages, benefits and hirings/sackings should be based on skill.

If a women cannot not complete a physical task because she is too weak then she should not have the job. She should not be allowed to keep the job just because she is a woman when a man who could not complete tasks satisfactorily would be fired.

If a man and a woman do the exact same job, their pay has to be exactly the same.
If the woman can't carry a heavy object and she still wants to get the same amount of money, she'll need to do something equally important to the company, like administrative duties. It wouldn't be the same job but only because she can't do the other job.

If she trains every day in the gym and she gains the necessary muscle strength to do the same job as the man, why shouldn't she? Then she'd have the same job and should get the same pay.

I don't see why one would tie this to the gender. If I can't do police-work because I never had the proper education, I shouldn't be given a "toned-down" police job, either.
Once I have the necessary training, sure, give me the job.

Actually she made an effort and was better than her MALE colleagues too. Even in the firefighting example it's still not right to say women are a liablility, step back for a second and look at it from a different point of view, if you say that women aren't strong enough to be a firefighter does that mean a 20 stone epeleptic male is?, because he's male surely thats ok?
Basically you keep saying that gender etc shouldn't be a factor and yet you use it as an example. WTF? So gender isn't important but being born without a penis makes you a liability?
I think that as far as i'm concerned this discussion has gone on long enough.

I cant belive Im saying this but...

Your white arnt you?
What is your point?

His statements are completely correct by logical reasoning, if you can't do one part of the job.. Then why should you be payed the same as someone else able to do the job?

I wouldn't want a women carrying me out a fire, because science has taught me women have on average 30%+ less muscle mass then a man. A fire is high intensity situations, the only thing matters is the job is done and a life is saved, or does it really matter who saves it?

Dude, your equality argument is what I have been argueing for years in my history classes.

Equality is a joke, and I have learned something throughout my years of arguing. Its that women don't want to be treated as equals, teh want to get paid as equals.

And I got into an interesting argument with a girl in gym class dealing with the fact that men have to do more push ups/sit ups/pull ups/ect. as women, which makes us better.

If they think that they are equal, then they should have to do 50 push ups to get an "A", not 30. (Note: thats the requirment for an "A" for a push up test in my school, it may vary from school to school)

While they aren't equal in muscle count as men, at a statistic level it makes sense. Women are inherently born with less muscle mass. They should have to only do what would be equal. (Well equal would be 35 in this case, they are babied probably because they do less physically demanding life.)

Huh. You're right! Those greedy, selfish, inferior women! Taking the same pay then shrugging off work! We should go back to the dark ages. They knew what to do with women!

dear sms_117b, i read your post on equal opportunities and was wondering if i could quote you in a essay i am writing for my english 102 class? i thought your opinion on taking sex,and ethenticity, out of equation A and B and seeing if it would still be equal, was ingenious.

Your right. She should be paid less for not being able to do her entire job. In my opinion, people should be paid for what they do, not what they do not do.
