in dead rising it was indeed a stupid feature ''oooh i got this chainsaw to chuck through these squishy zombies, it can cut trees all live it should be okay'' *after a few zombies* its already red?!

but in fallout and far cry its okay

Ever played Fallout 3? I loved that system and never found it bothersome. Repairing my gear, watching that sunset. Raid a random grocery store. All fun in my book.
I didn't like Fallout's system. I appreciate that it makes perfect sense to have one in the game, but it was annoying to have to dissolve an entire weapon to repair another, and above all, everything degraded way too quickly. They should have cut degradation speed to about a fifth.

Also, specific to Fallout and in general, I'm not a fan of weapons becoming less powerful as their condition drops. I don't mind small drops, but it makes no sense that stopping power decreases by half due to wear and tear. Instead, they should lose accuracy and jam more frequently, before they eventually break.

One of the best examples of weapon and equip degrade in games in my opinion.
