I am glad you brought that up I have been reading about and studying the subject of dragons for many years and I must admit, I was little confused, when I saw that Saphira had feathers on her wings. I had understood that dragons had leathery wings
Studying dragons for years? Really? thats like studying the loch ness monster for years... no wait, worse.

Anywho, I had no idea about all of this. Personally I saw the movie, never read the book, and thought that the movie wasnt terrible, and that the story was not bad and put togeher well.

That was before I read this... I had no idea the arya chick (or whatever) was an elf? I cant believe this much was left out of the movie, damn I'm gonna get the book from the library tomorrow.

Thank you for showing me the truth
Don't bother, really, I saw the movie first and enjoyed it, got the first 2 books on sale for the sake of reading them.

The extra stuff in the first book doesn't really add much to the storyline as a whole, and thus the omission from the movie. And even if it is used in the second book, if a second movie was made they could just introduce the characters then, when they actually became important.

In other words none of the stuff they changed was really all that important to the base storyline.

Though I'll agree with the feathered dragon thing.

Well, the movie was complete crap, I think most people agree to this. It took the original story and pretty much tore it apart. People who have read the book (and posted in this forum) have also pointed out that the most important parts of the story were left out. I think the real problem with putting everything that was in the book into an actual movie would be the extra 2-3 hours that would need to be added to the movie. This stuff happens all the time because of production costs and the like.

I enjoyed reading the book because it actually drew me in to the world more than some others have done in the past. Even some well-liked ones (Dune). It does rip off a lot of famous stories, and those stories have ripped off other stories, but this is how writing usually works. It's either a creative sewer that a writer sticks his hand into and adds these things in on accident, or it's allusion in order to get you to compare the stories. I'm not saying that the Eragon books are better than The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, or even really on par with them, but it's a literary tactic that's supposed to make you say "Hey, where have I heard that before? Maybe from a book of sheer awesomeness!" I dunno, maybe it was just a blatant rip-off. You'd really have to attach Paolini to a lie-detector to figure that one out. (He says while trying to retain an air of neutrality :D)

EDIT: I also think that you can really sense how much better Paolini's writing is getting when you compare the first and third books. He may have written the character Eragon to be a personification of his literary ability. (Maturity!) If not, then I just made that up! Yay!!

I just couldn't understand why they needed to change the dragon mark thingy into a huge scar, and how the dragon grew up in about 2 seconds.

All in all it was a good film... then again my definition of a good film is one that i can rip the living smeg out of for the next few days

I only read one chapter of the book before putting it down. It reminded me of the kind of stories I wrote when I was 14... the kind that should never have been published. Granted it's JUST cliche'd and immature, at least it isn't Twilight bad.

Eragon was one of the first fantasy-adventure based books that I actually read, so I loved it. I thought it was very well written, and I can assure that I read it multiple times, as well as the second book, Eldest. I couldn't finish the third book, as my taste in literature had shifted, and I began noticing a certain dislike for Paolini's style.

I hated the movie, and I hated everything about it. It brought Eragon to the public eye. Except that they cut off all of its limbs, killed all of its offpspring, and then beheaded it for all the world to see.

And I forgot my pen.

I flat out refuse to watch the movie at all. I would watch pretty much anything before Eragon.
I despise when the plot of a book is eviscerated when it becomes a movie.

Oh and I'm expecting my cake sometime in the next day.

Awesome cake.

I imagined he Urgals as Super Mutant-like myself. Except with horns and are not green. And are twice as badass. Arya looks nothing like an elf (or not as I imagined) and I also imagined Saphira as having a larger belly and chest. Do they show in the movie that Saphira has spikes running down her back? I cant remember. Also does anyone know when the new book is coming out?

-Top Secret Recipe for Eragon-
Take equal parts Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and mix them together in a small bowl. Next, shit in a second bowl and slowly mix in the contents of the first bowl. Season with bad acting and poor writing to taste and film at $100 million dollars until you give up on releasing a good movie and just release the cinematic abortion at a time that the budgetary losses don't effect your studios bottom line too much.

Goes good with ice cream.

Everyone is saying that Eragon (the book) ripped off Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Well not really. They are all ripping off the same thing which is why it appears that way. The Heroic cycle. The most cliched writing style to date, and still incredibly popular.

By the way, I really enjoyed Eragon (the book), but then again, I like just about all of the books that follow the Heroic Cycle because I like to see what details the author has come up with.

Personally I hated the film in comparison I loved the book and am waiting with bated breath for the forth book. I think GTA 4 mocked the film, y'know 'dragonbane', it's abouth a boy, a dragon and a wizard, sounds similar?

Um...wow.
I didn't know this got any attention. I am pleased to discover that people actually read it, and commented.
I also greatly appreciate all the gracious compliments by many of you readers.
I am supremely suprised, to be entirely honest. I will try and get a nice cake together perhaps...

Oh, and sorry for necro-ing this thread. I just had to show my thanks, hope you understand.
