Why was everyone mad if you are just gonna stay mad after your demands are met?
One more check under my growing list of evidence that the internet community is actually pretty stupid...
They still bribed government to introduced this law, they still wont do anything to fix their own archaic business plans, and they still want to throw everyone who has ever downloaded anything to be thrown in jail for longer periods than a rapist or a murderer.

Every time a government has overstepped its boundaries and passed laws that abused the rights of their citizens, a dictatorship was born. So yes people will stay mad for a while until the two faced act is over, or the industry implodes in on itself like it did in the 1970s.

I like the fact that under SOPA, you had a harder penalty for sharing a Michael Jackson song than the guy who killed him got.

And what about the $190,000 they spent lobbying in favor of SOPA?

No, ESA. You can't save face now. You're damn right you're going to stop supporting SOPA, but we aren't going to forgive you for it. You're in the dog house for a very, very long time.

I'll post it when i have one.

But now I can go back to supporting nvidia without feeling bad :)
So no long term consequences for supporting SOPA? I guess the next time a SOPA type bill comes along, NVidia can support it without feeling bad since forgiveness is assured if the bill fails and they drop their support.

It's called using a stick AND a carrot. Because if they supported it and it went through, you can bet that their sales would be badly injured.

They supported it and would still be supporting it if it had not failed. It's like people are glad that SOPA failed so they can go back to giving money to companies that supported it.

Is that a problem? Not everything has to be a blood feud.

The point is that if it had gone through, their sales would have hurt a lot. And now that they aren't supporting it (regardless of whether it failed or not), their sales shouldn't be hurt. Grudges aren't as effective as carrots.

SOPA falling through isn't relevant anymore to Nvidia's sales, all that matters is what's happening right now.

A grudge has it's purpose, to ensure they think very very hard before supporting the next SOPA type bill.

If you really think the present is all that matters, then I disagree. In the future we will see more of this type of legislation, what you say to SOPA supporters today may influence how far future legislation gets.

Man, this would make for the BEST movie ever. I'm wondering if this whole shananigan is the biggest internet drama series ever, or has there been worse that I'm unaware of! Anyone know?

In defence of my support of nvidia.

Their products are actually good. Please note the amd press release which said "the 7970 wipes the floor with any card from the previous generation of hardware" yeah, no thanks.

Meh, they know SOPA is done in it's current form and are trying to save face.

Let's see what they do when SOPA/PIPA's successor comes along before we start praising them.
It's not the ESA he wants us to praise, it's ourselves.
Correct! Have an internet. As I said many times, no one is going to trust the esa after this.

Too little too late. The ESA are tools. It would have been nice to see that change of face when it actually meant something.

We won what? ESA bailed after SOPA was shelved. Also, SOPA isn't done. Last I heard the people behind it are now working to get it into other bills, since that's how it works in the USA. You can pass almost anything if you make it a part of something else. I remember reading that they're trying to include SOPA (or a SOPA equivalent) into some new child pornography law. Yeah, I can see people lining up to vote against child porn laws...

Wow, so they never supported it ever I guess, it doesn't mean anything that they pulled out when the bill has effectively flatlined.

This doesn't change anything, they still would be supporting it if the bill had any kind of active heartbeat.

I can't believe anyone would say 'we won' since this is clearly to try to save themselves from the hole they dug now that it's dead.

yeah, I don't think the ESA can come back from this one with any credibility left.

Something about that system doesn't make sense. Oh, I know, ALL OF IT. -_-

Unfortunately, I do think this is going to be enough to avert an E3 boycott by the press and devs.

I plan on sticking to mine, though. Coming up when the big bad's been killed and saying "hey, I've been on your side the whole time!" isn't particularly convincing. So I won't be buying anything that's showcased at E3, even if that includes GW2 or Borderlands (though that would REALLY piss me off).
