I am not going to be able to escape this film for the next few weeks. It was shot in the lovely resort town of Fernie, British Columbia where several of my friends are from. Several of my friends who like these kinda brain-dead gross out comedies that I'm really hit or miss on, seriously I can't recall the last time I saw a movie that "everyone" said was funny that I actually found funny. The Hangover was okay but Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad etc. all kinda... I dunno, made me annoyed.

You ever get the feeling Bob likes to snipe back at the people that snipe at him? (states the obvious)
shrug. I'm actually under orders to go to the movies Bob likes (only reason I saw Repo Men), but in this case I think I'll make an exception. Comedies by and large aren't my thing. Haven't actually enjoyed one since Office Space.

Can you review heavy rain please? I want to see what a movie reviewer thinks of it instead of a game reviewer.

I would have put Hot Tub Time Machine and She's Out of My League in the same league (of s***), but hearing Bob's review has changed my mind a bit. Who doesn't love making fun of the 80s? I think I may go see it now.

Below is my final, definitive opinion on the whole Repo! concept rip off notion

I didn't really think Repo! was quite that obscure, honestly it struck me as kind of one of those movies that was meant to appeal to the cult crowd and honestly I preferred the Rock Opera set up to a straight up action flick mostly because a concept like organ removal and financing is something that can never really be said with a straight face, it's just to absurd to be imagined. Hence Repo! was kind of aware of this and decided to take a complete absurdist approach by making it a rock opera, hence I value it over Repo-men.
Seriously, I think a Repo man gleefully singing about his 'thankless job' while gutting someone is more of an enjoyable spectacle than a straight up ruthless thug.
That was kind of why I liked Repo! a lot more and besides it really was the exact same concept barely even dressed up in Repo-men. Repo-men wasn't just a faithful version of a classic story, no, if you ask me it was just the concept as Repo! (Repo! admittedly did not come up with it first, that was a movie called Brazil I think, I just reckon Repo! did more interesting things with the forumla)rehashed into something else without any of the real charm.
Bottom line, REPO! was obviously aiming at being a cult movie, hence I can't blame you if you didn't like it, in some respects if the reviews are any indication you either do or don't like it, I can respect that. I'm just saying that it was a popular cult movie and thus a lot of people liked it and would note the concept.
Just the concept mind you, the actual plot of REPO! plays out more like the classic Shakespearian Opera of betrayal, love, loss, inheritance and a final bloody showdown complete with a darkly charismatic narrator. Whereas Repo-men follows along a more personal conflict about the civilian perspective of the corporation itself rather then simply who gets to control it.

I did like that sarcastic comment about the plot of Hot Tub Time Machine being similar to a martial arts movie about fighting Kangaroos though let's give Repo some credit, it's nowhere near that campy or strange.... plus Repo is only three years old, so it's still a lot more recent in the public's memory.
Sorry if this seems a little preachy, I certainly did not mean it too, just figured I would explain my position, still thought it was a great review and I still respect your capacity as a reviewer as you clearly know what you are talking about on most things even if I do occassionally have to disagree.

Sorry, I rambled a bit, my apologies, back on topic dammit, back on topic.
Well this movie does look interesting, hopefully some of the humor is more mature then some recent comedies but if nothing else it certainly LOOKS very unique and creative in the sense that it's just a random crazy wild adventure that doesn't need to make sense, just entertain. I would enjoy watching it save for that I would have to wait a very long time given that I live in Australia and therefore most of our movies arrive in theatres MONTHS after yours do (to give an indication of time frame here, only a few weeks ago have I started seeing posters advertising the Book of Eli.... yeah, that's how far behind we are) so odds are I'll be waiting a little while.... or a really long while.

Also, I have to agree with what you said about Back to the Future, while I wasn't born when it first showed up I too fell for its charm and as a result I would not want my own generation to dirty it with their filthy hands.

Wow, were people really that pissed off about Repo?

Damn...

OT: I honestly didn't expect this movie to be considered funny. Probably because of all of the so called "comedy" movies out now make me want to murder whoever came up with them...

But still, might go see this. It sure peaked my curiosity thats for sure.

I have not seen a film at a cinema that made me really laugh in a long time. I just don't think comedy works as well in 90+ minute format, and modern comedy films tend to be either loud and obnoxious or have tons of cultural references that mean nothing to me. I like silly or dark comedy and not seeing much of that around at movies.

That all said, this could be a rental on DVD someday and might be decent.

He could do a Game OverThinker [http://screwattack.com/shows/The-Game-OverThinker] episode on some aspect of it.

Wow, Bob, honestly didn't think you were gonna touch this one. I thought this week would be some DVD editorial mandate thing, since I looked at the new releases and thought, 'none of these movies are worth a MovieBob review.' What a pleasant surprise for me then.

Anyways, thanks for the advice that it's really good and funny. I must now go and gather my roommates so we may see this movie tonight.

I feel exactly the same way man. I've started to avoid all Judd Apatow films. (He directed all the aforementioned Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad ect.)

I also think that, yes, they would botch up A Back to the Future remake, mainly because, being only 22 years old, I nonetheless saw the last few breaths of those who weren't politically correct and can thus keep my eyes and mind open to certain artforms and jokes that don't particularly fill the whitewashed mold of 2010 (Hence mine, and many other's, appreciation of Repo!) Also, some of the younger teens who also did appreciate Repo! are doing so, I think, because they have also had the chance to come in contact with these same cult classics. Finally, those who overdo the 'politically correct' bit for comedy seem to only end up with a 'Land of the Lost' premise D: ...but anyways.
Yeah, I'll check it out... :)

I've been needing to watch HTTM since I first read the title. Yeah, I've had a massive love affair with ridiculously titled movies ever since SoaP.

Oh, and they'd better not *ever* make another sequel to BttF! The end. That's it. The series is done. The third one wrapped things up nicely; we neither need nor want another. It's inevitable that a remake will happen within the next decade or two so I'll deal with that when it comes but no more sequels to this beloved franchise please!

Well I didn't even know Repo! existed until this video so yeah. Some obscure film has a similar plot to another film so you're going to ***** and whine at a reviewer and throw in some overly emo melodrama? What fantastic lives you lead.

I'm torn on this film. I've noticed that 9/10 Bob is generally right about a film but the piss poor slew of "comedy" films that have come out recently have kind of killed the genre for me.
