Wow, someone else remembers Romancing the Stone? I was like ten the first time I saw it, I actually still have it on VHS, it was a pretty good movie, but I REALLY don't want to see Knight and Day, it's 21st century equivalent.

I could care less about the film too. Because the only romantic action comedy that I really loved was James Cameron's True Lies which was AWESOME! I've never really seen Romancing the Stone, but I might check it out if I feel really bored.

Also, the fuck with the Smurfs? It looks god-damn awful.

Yeah, I was specifically determined to avoid Knight and Day. It just seemed to be that type of movie.

I saw a preview to The Smurfs while going to see Toy Story 3, and eesh. It's going to be another pile of crap in the style of Garfeild or Alvin and the Chipmunks, but at least those were actually set in the "real world" but the Smurfs were in Smurf Village, and also, as Bob said, in a medieval time period. Putting them in modern day Manhattan is just stupid, and it'll no doubt suck.

Romancing the Stone...huh?

LoL, I don't know, do you remember Quatermain: King Solomon's Mine with the guy from Shogun Richard Chamberlain and a young, really young00 Sharon Stone?

The fact is Indiana Jones knock offs are never worth remembering....that trilogy pretty much perfected anything you can expect from the movies of that genre so why bother.

Now as for Shogun, that was fucking AWESOME, and I can't believe not a lot of people remember that series from the 80s, but then again if they can remake V....hmmmmm

Anyways, you pretty much summed up everything that went through my mind when I saw that Smurfs trailer, as if those god awful chipmunk movies weren't enough...-_-

I went to Wikipedia and saw that he was there after leaving the comment. I'm still surprised to see that this is actually being made into a live action movie.

Critics went far from "nuts" over Daybreakers, Bob. Hence its weak MetaCritic score of 57.

Umm, lettuce doesn't have a very distinct taste, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's an excellent addition to some dishes or salads, esp. with vinegar (feeling hungry yet? I know I am ;D) So not quite the best analogy, but anyway, thanks for the review, Bob.

Same. The thought annoys me so very much!

And I don't really care for Tom Cruise ever since...

Ah, Romancing the Stone. Great film and I loved the sequel Jewel of the Nile very muchly. Yeah I saw the trailer for Knight and Day and I was just bored. I heard of the Smurfs movie but I had no idea how soon it'd be released so I haven't seen the trailer. I only know that Neil Patrick Harris is voicing one of the Smurfs.

As far as the Green Hornet here are thoughts from my current favorite Comic Strip:

As far as my own thoughts, I think it's trying to not just mimic Iron Man but beat it and if not then that's how it happened in the original 1966 tv show and is then mere coincidence. However it has the same vigilante styles of the 1966 show and the original Batman series and why shouldn't it...they were even special guests in a Batman episode. Jay Cho plays a great Kato but Bruce Lee had much less of an accent than what Jay is pulling here.

I generally see about 4 new movies a week. Been watching all the Stanley Kubricks lately. They're awesome.

Green hornet without Bruce Lee just seems kinda pointless.

Knight and Day

This week Moviebob reviews Knight and Day. Does Tom Cruise regain his Mission Impossible era action movie status or is this just another action romance comedy to let pass by? Also, we take a look at the Smurfs trailer.

I figured you were gonna rip on johna hex, oh well.

theres probably another reason they made the smurfs in new york.
because its cheap to film there instead of actually putting some effort into it and making the smurf world in CG.
This is just insulting.

I'm from Brussels and I didn't know there was going to be a Smurf movie. It seems like it's the worst kind of sell-out. Double worse, because normally the Big Apple is only used in sequels (like Babe), áfter they make an at least half-interesting original. It makes NO sense whatsoever.

Peyo is rolling over in his grave because his children are dancing on it while burning money.

not caring for Green Hornet, I rather wait for the other green superhero.... Green Arrow!!
Or the Green Lantern....
Nope I like Arrow more, but I know I will be waiting a long time to see that ever happen. Also on The Green Hornet, the only thing I remember of it was it's cameos on the old Adam West batman, and Kato should have sooo beat up on robin and the taken out the Adam West batman.

So to respond to questions posed by the review, first up, yeah I remember Romancing the Stone, but I'm a massive movie geek myself who's got a decent-sized collection of international cinema and I worship Akira Kurosawa (granted he doesn't have anything to do with said movie, I'm just making a movie lover point) to the point where I have a dozen of his flicks, so I like to think I'm not the norm when it comes to film.

Secondly I asked my Belgian friend and he is PISSED. Seriously, he looked ready to punch a wall after seeing the trailer.

Thirdly, Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet... interesting choice, sort of like how John Peters suggested Sean Penn as Superman. You just kind of sit there going, "The guy from *so and so*?" It's one of those things where you can maybe see why it happened, but wrapping your head around it is still sort of tough. My main gripe though is I have no idea if the film is funny or not as most of the jokes shown the trailer fell flat in my opinion, though the gas gun bit had great timing. If anything what intrigues me the most, and this is going to sound weird, is how Cameron Diaz and Seth Rogen do in terms of on-screen chemistry. I'm facinated by the idea of them being love interests.

Random side note, I wouldn't say Transformers, or the sequel, were worse than Knight and Day. Of course, I have no problem with alternate adaptations because I'm well-aware of the Watchmen effect so I tend to not take this stuff too seriously and like to judge films on their own merits. That said the films are still bad plot-wise but I do enjoy Bay's visual style as while he assaults the senses he does do so somewhat gracefully. An example of less grace would be that damn chase scene in Quantum of Solace.
