This is not what I wanted to hear. I loved the first film. So much so that even despite the awfulness of the sequel I was once again gearing myself up for number 3. I wasn't hoping for a return to glory for the franchise but I was hoping for something akin to Nightmare on Elm Street 3 or Starship Troopers 3: The okay third film after the awesome first but incredibly lame second. I'm still going to see it but if it's as bad as Bob says, that'll probably kill the rest of the goodwill I have left over from the first one.

I'm also wondering if this film will also ape the last two by ending the film with a sequence showing the galaxy/planet/whatever is actually contained in a train station locker, even though that somewhat contradicts the "stored in a giant space marble" concept from the first film. That was what bothered me most about the 2nd film, actually. Seems unlikely the super-aliens that cart our galaxies around for whatever reason would make a change to such an inefficient storage method.Urh said:

No Bob was right they copied the villain from that last one. Boris was an alien just like Edgar. Why couldn't the villain be a human cereal killer or a ghost? I went to a movie about aliens to see a villain who was a magic elf!ilovemyLunchbox said:

Really depends how it performs. The production ended up being absurdly high given how mediocre the final product is. While it'll likely do alright thanks to an existing fanbase and Will Smith's name on the box, I have my doubts it'll make enough of a profit for anyone to feel it's worthwhile to make a 4th.Denamic said:
The tragedy of the MIB films is that the premise actually gave it a lot of potential to tell different kinds of stories. The films are almost literal the same type of story when in fact the MIB being Earth's diplomatic organization to aliens could lend itself to a lot of different scenarios. Like, say, someone trying to assassinate some bureaucrat, rogue agents like Alpha in the cartoon, or even a heist film if they wanted it. The films ended up being wasted potential.angel85 said:

But seriously, The Great Gatsby? You're looking forward to that? Wat? I know MIB 3 is going to be mediocre, but TGG is in my territory of really bad stories that really shouldn't ever be told. The Great Gatsby, 1.5 hours of bland boring nothing filled with unlikeable characters and blah. A great time to be had, yeah right. Much alcohol required, preferably black out drunk.

Nick Carraway wasn't unlikable. He was pretty much a regular self-insertion character who was fascinated with Gatsby. Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic casting for Gatsby though because it really is fun to watch him do anything. It also depends on the way the story is told. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful movie visually. I think that's why Bob says "This... Might... Work..." He's not looking forward to it as much as he's acknowledging, "Hey, this could be good considering what they've shown us so far."longboardfan said:

Eh, i liked it. Pretty much just back from watching it and i can't say i felt it was as bad as Bob is making it sound here.
It does however seem like a lot of people were ready to hate it before it was even out so i guess once more i get to feel like an odd one. Had some popcorn and sat down to have a good time and indeed i did. Sure it's no great star in the movie heaven, but do they all really have to be?

Well, I came out of this movie and I told myself: This movie did what it was supposed to do very well, so I shall can't really critizie it.
It was very entertaining, never got boring and the story was fun and engaging and all that good stuff.
The dialog was enjoyable, as were the fight scenes and the cgi, so I don't get why moviebob hates this movie so much.
Yes, the 2nd movie was terrible, but this film was very entertaining and enjoyable.
And if they ever make a fourth, I will probably go see it.

If anyone still has a hunger for more MIB, I suggest watching the old animated series. It basically takes the core concept of the setting and runs with it. And it came out after the first movie, so it has none of the baggage the two sequels have.

It wasn't my choice to watch either, it was a date movie and she liked Will Smith. Never saw Ali, thought it looked good but I'm not much of a boxing fan.Lionsfan said:
