Glad to hear paranorman was good, I saw the trailer for it and thought it looked fun.

Haven't heard much about this movie, til this week when they were talking about it on the local news (apparently Laika animation is based in Portland, and the local news pretty much worships anything that's locally made). Might have to check this one out. In this day and age of crappy family/kids entertainment, I'm always ready for something that treats it's audience like they're intelligent, rather than typical kiddie pandering.

I just got back from seeing this, and once again I completely agree with you. I'm also very pleasantly surprised with the minor twist toward the end. You know which one I'm talking about.

I just got back from Expendables 2, I hated the first one, but was convinced by a friend to go because everyone else was.

I was surprised. It was a much better movie and very funny, it will be hard to top in the third movie.

So it's like what would happen if Tim Burton started making good movies again? I'm in. I can already tell that the Frankenweeny is going to be an indulgence pandering to the Hot Topic crowd. But maybe I'm wrong and he's going to make a masterpiece again, but that's the thinking that sent Sonic fans into their current state.

You'd think it was a Nintendo/Bioware collaboration!

Nice to see Hollywood is getting...

...RE-animated
This comment made me smile.

I quite want to see this movie, I liked Coraline it was okay, but this film seems much more promising. I've got to find out when it get released in the UK.

Every trailer, every ad, everything related to this movie has made me loathe it's existance and consider it to look terrible and crude.

Bob's description makes me want to re-evaluate my initial thoughts and go watch this. After The Expendables that is.

Sadly I feel this is going to get the Scott Pilgrims treatment due to releasing alongside Expendables 2. I was hoping you would tear that movie a new one this week but there's always next week.

Well I off to gamestop to pick up The Last Story at long last and I'll think about checking this one out if not this weekend, then in next week.
Not really. Paranorman is more for kids while Expandables is for adults.

And I feel that SP bombed cause people got to see it for free at Comic Con.
Not to mention the fact that it was very "meh."
Or the fact that it didn't have much mainstream appeal!
Yeah, it wore it's quircky indie hipsterness on it's sleeve, and a lack of likeable characters. I watched it on Blu-Ray with my friends and 5 minutes into the movie, I wanted to punch Scott in the face, in a burst of shirtless rage.
That's kind of the point of the whole series, is that Scott is really quite a dick.

Looks like I'll be taking my little brother to see Paranorman then! Not that I needed to use him as an excuse but he wanted to see it anyway. Since it's still in theaters though and, just for a laugh, any word on the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie?

I don't remember the Bunny-Ear Mario...

Better than the Avengers? The hell?

Ooooooooh... Yeah that makes sense. If there's anything Bob likes more than comic book heroes on screen, it's anything he can latch onto to relive his goddamn glorified childhood years.

Well, I can't say I was "that weird kid" growing up like you, Bob, since most of the cult nerdism you had in the '80s was relatively accepted in my youth, so I doubt I'll have nearly as much empathy and tolerance as you had going in.

Probably leave this one to a rent.

I'll be waiting for Wreck-it Ralph, personally.

Gotta agree with this post. I think this is boosted up because of the amount Bob could relate to it. Will I watch it after Expendables 2 forces it onto the pay movie channels early?

Sure. Hell that's where I watched all the other stop motion flicks.

I'm waiting for Bob to review Expendables 2. When he inevitably insults the entire audience, and calls them brain dead lepers that blight all of society, I hope whatever fans he has left abandon him.
That's kinda my problem (that, and Bob's insistence of injecting The Avengers into every review is getting tiresome, and I'd say that if he were doing the same thing with TDKR or any movie that I actually liked).

But I ENJOYED The Expendables. It wasn't high cinema, but it wasn't made to be high cinema. It was made to tweak the nose of movie snobs, if anything (anyone remember the "turn in your man card" promo? i thought that was hysterical).

People who know me probably wouldn't refer to me as 'brain-dead' (I'd at least like to think that). And I do enjoy the occasional "serious" flick (I will probably watch Spider again this weekend before I see Cosmopolis). But you can enjoy the opera AND arena football, if you're willing to keep an open mind about the merits of both.

I was expecting ParaNorman to be just another boring ass kids movie so that the little demons would shut up for an hour. Good to see I was wrong and that I finally have a movie that I want to see that isn't overhyped to hell and back *coughDKRisescough*.

I believed you when you came all over District 9 two years ago; I went into that movie expecting the best thing ever, and walked out with "aliens come down, but 1: they're not all powerful and 2: they're in Africa instead of America. That's kind of cool" and the brilliant, original message "oh by the way there's racism in the world!"

I then still believed you when you came all over Splice last year; I went into that movie expecting the most intelligent, clever sci-fi movie, and walked out with "look at this thing so cute oh now it's bigger oh now it's an adult oh now you're having sex with it oh now it has wings but it hardly flies oh now it's a dude oh now it's raping me oh now it killed him oh now I killed it and I'm pregnant with its freak child", and learned the oh-so insightful, original message, "don't do crazy sciency stuff without being super careful".

And now, today, I see you cumming all over ParaNorman, and totally believe you. I am expecting to see the best animated movie that can be; I am expecting to have the gap in my soul for family films left by Pixar the past few years to be filled.

I should have learned my lesson by now, but I haven't.

Well I dunno, sometimes, when you love a movie, but don't quite freak out about it, that generally means it ends up being pretty great, like with Scott P and Inception.
