I have a feeling a 5th and 6th film were already confirmed...I might be mistaken though...
5th is confermed and honestally it was good i seriously dont see any problem with the film, at the start however i felt like jack was all on his own and needed a support character but the movie warms up to that.

I agree on some point.
The movie was in no way good, but I still managed to enjoy. It lacked a good lead character and it was drawn out.
I would still recommend fans of the franchise too see it.

And btw, I believe Blackbeard's superpowers was caused by his sword and only worked on ships, so he could not use it while walking around in some secret temple.

Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley were supposed to be the main characters of the previous trilogy? Hmmm, I never saw it that way.

They were "Main" in the sense that they were plot-drivers, and their actions were what the series revolved around. Sparrow was just flitting around trolling and incidentally fixing things. Not standard-fare, but that's what was good about it. Now not so sure I want to see this if Bob recommends so heavily against it.

I saw the film last night, and I enjoyed it. It was a good film all on it's own, and Johnny Depp does what he does best, making Jack Sparrow an interesting character, even when he has to do all the development and story driving stuff himself.

The only issue I had is that Philip and Syrena (the priest guy and the mermaid) who were supposed to be the supporting characters replacing Will and Elisabeth didn't get as much screentime or story development as the commercials hyped them up to have. Still it's a good movie and I enjoyed it, and so did my friends.

the moment i saw the trailer and i saw penelope cruz saying: 'you love to point pointy thing at me, don't you jack?' i knew that this film was just random slapstick bullshit. i like the orginal movies for keira knightley and orlando bloom. depp is also great but you don't spend the whole mivie with him. but indeed, not a great main character. he did work in part 3 because he atleast had some development.

I said EXACTLY what Bob said at the beginning about this when I saw the first poster way back when.

And Bob, having faith in humanity to not do something stupid like see this movie? You should know better by now.

Maybe I'm in denial but I don't buy the 'Jack doesn't work as the main character.' line. Maybe the team who did this movie couldn't pull it off.

[sub]I'm getting tired of people throwing out the phrase 'trolling' for any and every situation.[/sub]

Bob the fact that the mellow dramatic poorly written "epic" parts are gone, Turner and Swan it's just fun sure the point isn't great but you yourself have said a film doesn't need to mean something, i saw it expecting a bad film but fully enjoyed myself and it's the best pirates since the 1st one as 2 & 3 were just aweful and filled with pointless made up myth instead of Aztec or in this case the the FoY and a bit of Necromancy.
As usual ingore bob's FILM advice it's a good film a family can go see

Although I respect his opinion, to say I disagree with Bob here would be a massive understatement. This was the best best movie of the franchise since the first simply because it didn't try to be too complex for it's own good and it was fun. Pirates of the Caribbean is a franchise that should never have gone down the epic trilogy route. Each film should have been it's own grand adventure, more akin to the Indiana Jones films.
This, it knows it's not here for an interesting and and neither are you you're both there to see Jack Sparrow be Jack Sparrow

Hey, Lay off the Mummy movies! Ok, the dragon emperor one was rubbish, but the first two were amazing, some of my all time favourite movies!
The third mummy film was amazing, just because the clay Emperor pulled off his own face to use as a projectile weapon. That had me in stitches.

I didn't plan on seeing this anyway. Not in theaters, at least. I've got plenty of other movies to see, and thank you for backing me up. My friends and I pretty much always agree with your reviews, so this will give me more leverage when we talk about what movie to see this weekend.

*sigh* It's like no one respects closure anymore, am I right? Sure they had a dangling thread at the end of the third movie, but that thread was just to say "As for the pirates, life goes on and it's back to business as usual!"

Another sign that you missed that this was going to be a piece of cursed monkey dung was that Dick Cook (Chairman of Disney) resigned from Disney "mysteriously" in 2009 after personally announcing with Johny that their were going to do a spin-off. According to Depp, he was more worried about the film after that, saying Cook was the one who actually believed in Depp'ss interpretation of Sparrow when nobody else did.

The budget was estimated to be around some where between 200 million and 150 million dollars, but it is known that Depp was paid 55.5 Million dollars to appear in this film. So matter what ever the budget, somewhere between a third and a fourth went to the actor, leaving a much smaller amount to go to the actual MOVIE.

This isn't looking to be a very good year of cinema :(
