star trek
wut?
just plain wut?
let's just look at some of the things to come out of star trek after star trek 3
Star Trek IV the Voyage home
star trek VI The undiscovered country
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Star Trek: First Contact
star Trek (2011)

So ALL of those sucked?? Really???
resident evil
Was was never good
James bond
again WUT???
On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Casino Royale and Thunderball all came out after Goldfinger and they're considered just as good as the first 3
Alien
indiana jones
4 is not nearly as bad as a certain hatedom tries to portray it as being (with the exception of the monkeys)
die haaa..
rocky
harry potter
Deathly hallows part1 is the best film so far
highlander
no argument here
Lethal weapon
never seen
I think you've missed the fact I was joking there. Yes, James Bond is a clear example, and so is Star Trek. Thanks for pointing it out. Also I'm not sure if the Star Wars thing you said was serious or trolling... really the last 3 movies sucked serious balls...

Pfft whatever Bob. I'm still going to see this. Partially because I have nothing better to do and I really want to see these mermaid scenes people are talking about.

Well as soon as I heard that there was no Keira Knightley in the movie, I decided that Im not going to watch it..

Ill probably going to buy the blu-ray when it comes out though, just so I can keep up with my collection.

I didn't even see the 3rd one. The second one was horrible enough. I hadn't planned to see this one regardless. I figured it would be horrible.

I agree on almost all the points you are making, the exception is that you say the movie sucks. To me it was just mediocre, nothing special but an obvious cash in of peoples love for the Jack Sparrow Character. Still, I do not regret having spent the money I did on watching it.
(Well, I do regret the extra money spent on watching it in 3D, since 3D just doesn't work for me but thats another matter entirely)

Well you just called Get Him To The Greek bad so I really can't take anything out of this review. It pretty much ruined your integrity seeing as you based most of the problem being jack sparrow as the lead.

Get Him to the Greek was great just btw.

I personally liked it a lot more than the overly dramatic 2nd and 3rd movies. Jack carried the movie just fine to me, and the jokes kept me laughing. It's certainly not a cinematic masterpiece, but it seems a lot closer to the high quality of the first movie than At World's End was.

When I saw the part at the end, where the spanish showed up to destroy the mystical alter in the name of god, I stood up and yelled "NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!"
Enough people laughed hard to make everyone around me glaring worthwhile.

the fact that he followed up the interview by saying how much he wants to see a monkey fight a helicopter and praising a fucking muppets movie (apparently blind to the fact that the muppets movie will be an even bigger lazy, money-hungry ploy for an audience's money that Pirates 4 ever could be) to me negates the credibility he has as a movie critic.

i just got back from seeing the movie and i thought it was a fun experience. Bob seems to have failed to notice that the film was OF COURSE made to be a drawn out extension of the other films. OF COURSE it has nothing but stereotypes and unexplained plot points. Jack has always been the main character

in the previous story (and by story i mean all three previous films seen as a whole) Jack was always the main character. His test is to help and guide the people who need him to extend out from his own personal bubble. This is why the first film (and still best film) put more dramatic emphasis on the relationship between Barbossa and Jack and how that relationship threatens not only their lives, but the lives of others being drawn into that conflict.

The drama of the Will/Elizabeth narrative only heightens the stakes for Jack, and therefore Jack has to grow as a person because of it (I.E. sacrificing himself at the end of film two and giving up the chance of immortality at the end of film three... oh yeah. I should have put a spoiler warning up).

The only people who seem to have done what should have been done are Depp, Rush, and McNally (who plays Gibbs), in that they are riding the gravy train into the ground. I'm an actor and filmmaker myself and I understand the need to break yourself from a franchise or story, but shame on Bloom and Knightly for not wanting to be a part of the franchise anymore because that's a big paycheck gone. (I am however pleased that their story was closed and finished)

Of course the makers of this new edition knew the story was ill-structured and flimsy and a tad boring at times. But this movie was not meant to appeal to people like Bob. This movie was made for those of us who enjoy the characters and who don't mind watching silly movies to counterbalance all of the more intelligent films we watch

Just by his tone you can tell that Bob has never really supported or enjoyed the other films. I'm sure if they make a Thundercats movie or some other garbage targeted towards him personally, Bob would praise it regardless of how bland it is.

I must say, saw this movie today and i really enjoyed it.
It was hilarious.
Sure the ending was predictable but it had a few twists along the way and had fun with it.

Definitely, with the eyes of a critic, this was a bad movie, everything a good movie shouldn't do was done in this movie. The story was terrible and the build up, non-existant, I completely understand your review, Bob.

However, with the eyes of an average person, this movie was still an enjoyable experience. The humour has yet to reach it's expiry date, and the action scenes were still fun to watch.

But it was 3D, making the cost of it totally not worth it... I should have just waited until it was available to rent...
3D needs to die.

I'm going to have to disagree with Bob on this one. It's not necessarily bad it's just fairly tepid and mediocre. The whole thing with the Priest and Mermaid is fairly stupid that's for sure and the having to have the two Ponce De Leon Chalices seemed like utterly contrived BS. I actually thought Jack did okay as the main character and found him to be pretty interesting. Blackbeard's Daughter seemed kind of stupid that's for sure, can't even remember her name because she is so forgettable. I don't see why Bob is whining about Blackbeard's Magic powers. They seemed to be strictly centered around the sword being able to do funky stuff with the ship, there isn't really a part in there where he needs to use his magic ship and he doesn't. The whole prophecy bit was unneeded and I hated how Jack's dad came in and basically went "Here's everything you need to know for the whole movie, kthnxbai!

Oh also yes, the quality (lighting in particular) paled in comparison to the other movies. But that's what happens when you get a mediocre director.

All in all there was some good, but it is weighed down by the bad so it just comes off as fairly "Meh." If they would have made the story more interesting and flushed out the characters and gotten rid of that stupid mermaid/priest and the two stupid chalices it could have been a good movie. If they do make another one I hope they actually take the time to think things through and do something amazing instead of just sub-par.

Well I'm glad I watched the movie before the review. I watched it last night, actually quite enjoyable, despite this dribble.

One thing though: this was supposed to be set before the trilogy, yes? Hence why they "act like the first three movies never existed?" That's what I was picking up, at least.
Well, it was about the search for the fountain of Youth, a journey Sparrow set out on at the end of the third movie, so it is (barely) a sequel.

I just saw this and I can say don't listen to bob.

the production values are though the roof, the story's great and I am having a hard time believing what bob is saying.

all I can bob is, if you don't want to see another... quit the show.

ps. bob, make a movie yourself. maybe we will see how EASY it is to make one.

Well, truth be told, I was expecting the worst, because even though I thoroughly enjoyed the first three, the third one was starting to get lax near the end. I was surprised when Bob immediately shows his dislike for this film, but then, I saw there was a new director, which usually means it's gonna suck compared to its predecessors because said new director usually just nubs off what's left of the original material... Ahh... Might consider skipping this movie.

General rule of thumb - there's two consecutive crap movies at the end of the franchise. This seems to be the first one, judging by all the negative reviews.
Crap film one - warning that the franchise has gone to shit, but people still give it a chance.
Crap film two - the guillotine, game over. No recovery.
