I read that Scott said he didn't want to do "another Alien movie" but the studio suits wanted the references in the flick anyway. Any truth in this Bob?

Plus, if there is a sequel (as is the understanding kicking around certain parts of theinternet), then Prometheus has certainly set me up to want to go and see it.

I saw that Wreck-It-Ralph thing, Bob...and like I asked on another forum, since WHEN is Zangief a bad guy?!?
Street Fighter 2 originally came out in the time of Soviet Russia. Therefore, he was a dirty Commie.

I agree with moviebob on this one. Like several films, it gets a few ideas, but instead of taking them, and the genre, to a new direction, this film backtracks into typical cliches. And, indeed, there were too many characters in this meaning most of them weren't as deep as they ought to have been.

Barely, it came out right around the time the cold war ended and everyone planning the game then was too young to have those political sentiments. But isn't the whole point of this film to throw into ambiguity who are and are not the bad guys? Man, I just watched the trailer and I had to laugh so hard...

As a few people have noticed, if the editing feels slightly off this week it's because Bob's computer was having issues so I stitched this one together trying to emulate Bob's style as best I could.

The editing for this video seemed a little off. I don't know if you were doing an incredibly subtle jab at the film for some of its more disjointed parts, or if you just had a bad week in putting the review together.
yeah i noticed that too. the bizarrely long pauses between each sentence made me feel like i was watching a jrpg cutscene. is the dialogue in the actual film as awkward or something?
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that, it kept me from fully listening to this review, each time I noticed the pauses (every time) it threw me off track of what he was saying
Same here. Think I cut out at 3 minutes in because it was annoyin to listen to. At first I thought it was a reference to the dialogue in the movie, but the only time he's done that he pointed it out in the review so it was probably just sloppy editin.

Interest in this movie has actually dropped a ton since I first heard about it. The only thing I knew for the longest time was the original trailer which made it look really interestin. Then, because it is impossible to completely avoid spoilers on the internet, I found out it is a Alien prequel which just...meh. Would have rather found that out while watchin the movie instead of havin the reveal be spoiled before I ever saw it.

...So what was with the random pausing through the review? They mostly weren't pauses for dramatic effect, it just seemed like you were pausing at random times.

Also, good review overall.

EDIT: And two posts above me is the explanation for why it sounded like that. Nevermind.

Nice review but I found the editing on this video a bit sloppy with gaps in the audio, hopefully this is a one time thing

If you followed Bob's twitter, you'd know about recent technical difficulties. Threw me off a bit at first, but i actually liked the more relaxed pace of this episode as opposed to the high speed of other episodes.

Prometheus was an okay movie, but probably brought up more questions than answered them. Fassbender was the acting MVP, no competition.

And it's a prequel in the same way my toe is connected to my face. The two are connected, but there's stuff in between. I've a feeling we're going to see a P2.

Great review Bob, I'm going to see the movie tomorrow. Oh, and still so sure about your positive assumptions of "Wreck it Ralph" I see, well, when the movie comes out, we can decide for ourselves whether it lives up to our assumptions.

The thing is. Aliens itself is already a convoluted mess of over the counter pop science. Throw in an alien creator species, Star Trek did it first!, and you basically have no where to go with that except down.

The whole alien creator thing is just a neat concept, which very view people can actually plausibly explain. Look at Assassin's Creed. 90% of the plot is based around an alien life form coming to Earth and creating man.

It is the most boring and nonsensical part of the games because it changes almost every single time and offers no actual explanations just old clichés.

Same here with Prometheus, had they done away with the aliens and devoted the second half of the movie to delving further into this rather than spending time rethreading alien plot point for plot point it would have been all the better for it.

Now it's just a mediocre alien horror film that is personally insulting to me because it raises questions. Never answers them. Then expects us to switch our brains off when it goes into the action.

Good review and personally I felt underwhelmed by the whole experience too.

My main flaw is how disjointed the second half is e.g. what on earth was that zombie thing and why did Theron's character allow the doors to be opened after what had just happened.

But yeah was still a good film but could have done with a little more explanation as to why the characters acted the way they did.

Main reason why I haven't seen it is 3D-only format
For God's sake what happened to 2D and 3D choice?
I personally can't stand 3D (was on Avatar and John Carter of Mars- it was worse than meh :( )
So I'll need to wait till DVD release or something

BTW review had only minor spoilers (anyone who was interested in development of movie already knew that)

Well, since both Alien and Aliens, especially Aliens, were some of my favorite movies since my childhood, and they still are, I can't help but to feel curiosity at this movie, even if it's not as great as many expected, I'll take it with a grain of salt and expectations turned down a notch or two.

As for Wreck-It-Ralph... yeah... that's all kinds of awesome. I almost yelled at my friend just to get him to watch the trailer. And he loved it too.

Think you missed an example in your 'aliens are god' list, you know the sci-fi epic that's by far the most popular recent example? The one with which you have a complicated history? The one which has a massive dose of Heinlein and would have fit right in on a video game website?
HALO I AM TALKING ABOUT HALO!

Seems like this film validates my personal philosophy of paying as little attention to media around releases as possible, its only the age of too-much-information if you insist on absorbing all the information. Bob cant do this as his job depends on it but I've never got why everyone is expected to follow these things.
