"Not sure if serious... or trolling..."
I'm sure you mean this:

And I'm with you on that one Chess, considering that Bob just pretty much spelled out the whole movie for us; 4 whores (and im using that term literally) rob a store, go to florida, get caught up in hookering and drugs, all while not changing his tone. But truth be told this movie looks like gabaj (garbage but it sounds funny when you say it out loud) especially with the fact that its filled with dubstep. It honestly reminds me of that one chick from "Forest Gump" who spent the majority of the movie bein a slut and smokin crack, only where that had a reason for being and was tragic as hell, this is just "oh hey lets write these chicks as whores cause people like that". If people really feel the need to see this kind of movie, watch "Almost Famous" and have dubstep blasting on a pair of headphones.

I'm confused, to say the least.

First, I've never heard of this movie. Is it M-Rated or some Disney-Channel spin-off?
Do I want to watch people party, have sex and rob banks?
What's Generation Y and why should it matter to me?
Isn't Spring Break just summer holiday?
Why mention ponies, to they have an important role?
I also don't recognize any of the "classics" he mentioned.

Wow, 2 hours in and there are already over 60 comments? I bet they're about confusion regarding what makes this movie so special that Bob and other critics find it at least intriguing; I guess it has to be seen to be believed.

*checks comments* Really, guys? A large fraction of you care about the reference of MLP:FIM in this? Hasn't the fandom sorta died down?
Not really. If anything it's only getting stronger as time goes on. Bronies are nothing if not dedicated.

Have to say, I'm very shocked that this turned out to be good. After seeing the ads on YouTube I was expecting this to a big pile of teenager vomit, so the revelation that it actually has something to offer is strange indeed. Still don't think I'll see it though - the promise of ponies makes it far more appealing, but I'm still not sure it's my kind of movie.

Wait, IT HAS POINIES?!?!

Definitely avoiding then.
So, you're gonna not watch a movie simply because it probably makes ONE reference to the show?

Get over yourself.

Yeah... sorry Bob, I like you and everything, but ever since your review of Suckerpunch, I have to take these kinds of reviews with a grain of salt, and especially when it comes to female exploitation on film.

Gonna give it a miss. I am not a fan of the "we coach a deeper message into something the audience wants to see" thing, because at the end of the day, if you wanted to see whatever "it" is, you're going to ignore the message and stay with that. And if you were there for the deeper message, you're going to have to slog through the "it" in order to get there. That type of movie is trying to have it both ways, obviously, trying to reel in the shallow masses AND the intellectuals, so it obviously doesn't care about the deeper message enough to get rid of the shallow cocoon it is presented in. So if the movie itself doesn't care that much about the deeper message, why should I?

Were actually I being serious I don't see how it'd make me any more ridiculous than all the people with the exact opposite reaction. Honestly I have no interest in this movie, ponies or no ponies.

Also, quick question regarding the presence of ponies in this film:
Is it used as an easy target for the sake of mockery?
after some googlefu I found this:

the girls wearing ski masks that have the image of a My Little Pony-esque cartoon unicorn emblazoned on them. (Several times throughout the movie, they're glimpsed watching episodes of Friendship is Magic, a comforting escape, perhaps, from more adult pursuits like partying.) It's hilarious, of course, but it also represents a turning point in their lives -- a passage from their childhood into what they all imagine to be maturity... even though it's anything but.
That's kind of a relief. Putting the fact that I'm a fan aside, it's maddening how something so essentially harmless is often used as a punchline outisde of its fandom. Sure, the attitude of some of its "promoters" doesn't help, but still.

Yes, much like Into the Wild is about a white guy getting lost in the woods, The Great Gatsby is about some rich dude and his party, and Bioshock is about the some guy going underwater to kill the remaining populace of the city of Rapture.

Making generalized, summarized, broad-sweeping comments that completely dodge even the WANT of any statements that aren't being made at the surface level doesn't paint you any better in terms of creating/presenting compelling opinions.

OT:

I may see this. Movies like this generally get me into a bit of a down state of mind, and it's not something that's needed in my life at the moment. I'll likely wait until it comes in other forms of media distribution.

Because the whole point of existential discussion as related to the generation this movie is presenting lies often within the excessive use of self-indulgence to fill an otherwise gaping void that is within the center of the human condition. The whole point of some movies is that characters are hilariously oblivious to what the story they are in is trying to say. That hardly makes a story's ability to tell itself bad, it actually may play up the experience.

Or because if they made this movie about intelligent people with funny hats discussing the benefits and down-sides of our generation's moral set/existential relations, it wouldn't sell and would likely oddly misrepresented. Much like Bob talking about this movie seems a bit disingenuous to his audience.

Honestly, I think this review just paints a bit of a divide at some points between this website's populace and their collective opinion of certain atmospheres used in movies(or other forms of media, I suppose), and someone like Bob, who might be looking for value that people here would like have no problem discarding. I don't really think it's the fault of either party, but it's a bit disappointing.

I just realized that this is a movie directed by a man named "Harmony" and it has ponies in it.
I find that extremely delightful.

That moment when Bob clearly states that you may not like this movie yet people still complain he has bad taste.

Well, I was wondering why this video has so many comments on it already, and I think I know why...

I know this may seem saddenning, but this movie really didn't seem like the kind of movie I'd bother seeing; when Bob positively reviews certain movies, I might not see them simply because it doesn't look that appealing to me, or I'm not interested in it. I'm sure what Bob says about the movie is true, but even so, I don't get that interested in seeing a movie unless something about it truly perks my interest... And needless to say, the mention of ponies at the end of this review, as well as being jaw-droppingly surprising, got me interested. Call me shallow, one-minded, whatever, I don't freaking care, now I'm just interested in seeing what this movie's about.

i dont want to sound thick, but i feel like i wouldnt have picked up on all the deep subtleties of this movie, if you hadnt spelled them all out. i feel like a fair amount of over analysis is required to get as much from this movie as you did.

also, why why why why why did you have to mention my little pony? the internet has a habit of getting mad at bronies whenever my little pony comes up anywhere. in fact, the facebook comments to this have already turned in to "i wanna see this because of my little pony" vs "i wont see this because of my little pony"

I hate to ride in on this one but true. Sure, everyone should be over the "OMG There ARE PONIES. I MUST RAGE" But when just a mention of Ponies gets "OMG Must Watch", that can be a tad bit annoying. It's even hypocritical when the same person says "Btw, I'm loving everyone here who are furious that any movie would include a cartoon show they don't like instead of, you know, judging it on what it is actually focusing on." when they just said implementing ponies was a reason to watch. Just leave the ponies out of this you guys and see it or not. Also I heard it was implemented by characters watching it in the background. That's really it, so no reason to watch it or not watch other than how good it is. Shame on Bob for baiting!

I was burned by American Pie, so I probably won't see this. But Bob makes it sound like a movie you need your brain on for. I like that.

This is actually good? Didn't see that coming. From the trailer it looked like a mindless excuse for all the boys to see Selena Gomez in a bikini so I just dismissed it and forgot about it. That's probably why all the boys are gonna go and see it anyway but it's good to know that they might walk out of the theater with more than a boner.
Technically, I'm a part of Generation Y, so I might check it out.
