Does it give you kicks hating on Halo?

Why not hate on a genuinely bad game -_-

Three short lines does not a rant make.

Thank you MovieBob, thank you. Ignorance is no goddamned excuse for accepting shit. The entertainment industry is the only place on earth this is an acceptable practice.

3) I still haven't forgiven Zero Punctuation for the period where he reviewed gamer that he had not actually played and based all of his opinions on box art.(I realize ZP is not his name) At least I can say I am pretty sure you watch the movie you review.
.
Just curious, which game was that, I don't remember that one. I know he's done games where he's made presumptions about a game that turned out to be correct once he started playing it, and at times he hasn't finished a game based on not being able to bare it, but I can't recall a time when he's not actually played a game and reviewed it anyway (Duke Nukem Forever doesn't count)

I do believe that many critics are a bit high-brow compared to viewers. Sometimes I don't care about the story or the characters that much, I just want to watch a movie in a setting I really like (and this one comes close to that), or with some action that looks entertaining, or whatever. Not everything has to be the most original movie ever - but sometimes we come up with something like Inception, and it just has to be seen.

P.S. I think Reach did a lot more to add to Halo 3 than just jetpacks. New modes, new customization, new weapons (The DMR is awesome, IMO), and a really cool story. Point taken, though.

Quintilius Varus where are my eagles!

The Roman fare of late has been pretty tepid. Centurion set up a solid foundation but never did anything interesting with it, it sounds like this one has managed even less.

I live in the UK and the trailer for this looks plain weird. I'm certain there weren't lairy Scots running around at that time dressed like Zulus :S

If you want to see a good example of a film on this topic, try 'Centurion'. It has much better actors for a start (see Dominic West & Michael Fassbender).

Bob should have a third show entitled "Comics are weird!"
and just rant and rave about comics and their continuities.
I know I'd enjoy it.

All these movies about the 9th legion, where the hell is the Codex Alara? Those books are awesome!
Yes they are, but there is way too much going on that wouldn't translate well into a movie. It's one of those series that manages to be good by getting into the heads of a pretty substantial number of characters and their individual perspectives on things. Not to mention that like a lot of epic fantasy, it involves the gradual revelation of a backstory as to where a lot of the drama and story resolutions come from.

The thing is that for a movie, or even a play, you can't go into what someone is thinking very well, you need to provide a scene where they actually say it, or change the motivations around so the same basic things can happen but be better expressed as far as a film goes. This is why a lot of books fail when turned into movies.

Even as a mini-series I think it's just too deep, even if I think a lot of things could be done. Really you'd probably need like six episodes (six hours) alone just to deal with Invidia and her perspective on what's going on and how the role she plays through the series changes. Not to mention the role her husband plays, and what eventually happens to him in the end which while deserved on a lot of levels, is very much a WTF moment due to how stupid it was in the big picture, and really takes some explanation on how and why it happens.

That and I think that if it ever succeeded Jim Butcher would wind up in court with Blizzard and I wouldn't want to see that happen. You do this visually and a lot of people are going to be saying "hey wait, this is the Zerg in a sword and sorcery enviroment, you just changed Creep to Croach for all intents and purposes" and really, it would be hard to argue. The way a couple of characters are described is almost identical to how Kerrigan looks as well. While he did change some things to make it fairly unique, I personally do think that Jim was at least inspired by Starcraft... just the way some things are described. Nothing wrong with drawing inspiration, the problem though is that nowadays a homage or nod rapidly starts a legal battle when it makes enough money.
Okay, but I still think the Dresden Files needs to get on the Silver Screen. Even if it would be something like a two billion dollar project to get the latter books filmed.

Really, gotta take a shot at Halo Reach?

To say its the same game just with jetpacks is a gross understatement: its not the pinacle of change in the game industry, but it set itself far enough apart from its previous titles to be its own game. What about Mario Galax. Do you think a rock and a cloud suit constitute a sequel? I expect better from you Bob.

Anyway, back on topic... I agree with Bob on what he said. Chances are, if your watching this, you probably watch movies. And while I dont see EVERY release, I do have an extensive collection.

And nothing bores me more than copy-paste-done films.

I'm surprised that with all these movies about Romans in Britain, there hasn't been one about Boudica. Seriously, the actual events are basically a Hollywood movie already; the wronged warrior queen raising an army against an occupying empire, the courage of the Legionaries facing an army many times their own number, the ludicrously bloody and one-sided final battle with tactics a six year old can see the problem with.
Hollywood does seem to prefer stories where the barbarians win over those where they are ruthlessly exterminated by superior civilized forces though, so that might be a problem.

I have to agree Bob why this period in Roman history, why not a movie about the Teutoburg Forest massacre for example?

I like the plugs to Extra Credits and Zero Punctuation... sort of.

Also, Yoshi is FUCKING overrated. Not bad, really cute, but way overrated.

Really Bob? You are really going to call Reach a non-sequel and then bring up Mario? You could have kept doing the "Sticking your fingers in your ears and going LALALALALALA" trick, but then you had to throw that extra screen in.

ANYWHO!

Pretty good review overall. I would love to see you do Sanctum with all the advertising it has up on the internet.

Its funny because this review did the same thing t, me, as The Eagle did to MovieBob. It bored me.
1. Short description of the movie.
2. Defend yourself form baseless attacks, go very far off tangent.
3. Restate that MovieBob is in the right, and everyone else is not.
4. Comeback to the movie for a second
5. Make a reference or use an analogy
6. Bemoan his lot in life and how its all everyone else's fault.
7. Shit on Halo because its the cool thing to do.

And on that last point I understand you don't like Halo, but really, your using that as an example of copy past game sequels. Because whether or not I like objectively, there was more done to reach than putting jetpacks into it. If you want example of copy past games look on farther that guitar hero. From Guitar Hero World Tour to Guitar Hero 5, how many changes happened. Or how about Guitar Hero 5 to Guitar Hero Vah Halen. Where all they did was slap on the likeness of Van Halen and had a shit play list. Or hell even call of duty, where its been the nearly the same multiplayer in the last 4 games, since 2007. Even your beloved Mario isn't immune, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a long, well made map pack for Super Mario Galaxy. At this point It seams more like you have a personal vendetta towards Halo, and Im fine with that. But come out and own it, because there are a plethora of games that work as better examples for copy/past game design.
As for me I feel like you have crossed the line form disliking or hating a game to outright trolling, and I for one will not be watching any more. Not because i like halo, but because i hate trolls, and you have fallen into that category. For god sake its a movie about Roman Britain, but lets find a way to insert a quick jab at halo. If that doesn't classify as trolling than I don't know what does.
