Give it time. you give those sequels and they'll dumb down too. I just want Hollywood to know it can get indepth and advanced. that it doesnt have to. I want movies like the Dark Knight, some of the movies by pixar (Cars wasnt THAT great, and its really generalizing to say ANYTHING by Pixar is great), and i guess inception (though I had it ruined for me by average movie goers constantly asking me questions about it so i generally avoid inception like a vampyre avoids garlic dripped in holy water), to have great sequels. the Kinds that are better then the movie before. Like Empire Strikes Back was for A New Hope. and Like I said, i want tron to be the door opener, so we can get more tech heavy geeky movies out and hve them be a big name weekend opener for film companies, not an after though to pick up whatevers left that couldnt decide/didnt get tickets for what the wanted to see.

And if you want to bring up Inception, its a perfect example. do you think anyone really went to Inception for the plot? Got the little details without internet aid? No. The Answer's no. I'm not saying I did (I did go watch Inception, but I dont hold it highly, but thats more for personal reasons. I could see why someone would) but I at least tried to follow the plot and was able to fill in a good bit of holes and get into the deepness of the movie.

So say Inception 2 comes out. you know waht its going to be? Big Hall way tilting scenes, the scenes where the dreams fight back against them, the fire fights (pretty much its going to be like the south park episode made it out to be), because the average movie goer who doesnt want to look dumb for not understanding the deepness of the plot in the first movie. ANd then it will be subpar again,a nd we'll look back and say, "but it was so good, what happened..." Thats what I forsee happening to tron 3 (I can all but promise there will be one since this one is going to do great and there were so many things movie bob said in his review about cliff hangers/plot points that will need another movie to develop) and thats what I dont want, cause then hopes for the tech age in movies will come and go fast and movies will go back to be dumbed down, and no one will want to do something innovating like Inception, or a solid retelling, like The Dark Knight, or a good sequel like tron legacy for a long time.

So its more then just it being dumbed down. this, with Inception, the dark knight, movies like scottie P, and films like Up are the hopes that we can explore and do more, not just go with the flow. Like I said, its unfair of me, but I'm more or less holding the hopes of an entire genre and culture to emerge with this movie's success and hope that people dont see it as another action movie.

cause i can tell you one thing about Inception. Over half the people that asked me about it till it came out (and thats not even an exaggeration) asked me if Leonardo Decaprio was going ot be in it, and thats what sold them on going. The big name of mr. Decaprio of Titanic fame (which I think... well... thats a subject for another thread entire but I'll say his acting capabilities were grossly predetermined by the movie Titanic since thats what most everyone knows him for. I mean, Inception could have only been bigger if it was in 3D, and James Cameron helped to direct.

.... and there was a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning, with tits, that was on fire. XD (i'm way to tired to be doing this still if I'm quoting yahtzee in a movie bob Escape to the Movies thread).

So I hope that at least tells you something about how "mind blowing and great" inception was before anyone saw it, when over half decided tehy would see it on the basis that Decaprio was in it alone. The same case could be made for Batman (it was health freakin Miller, I dont know if he's ever done a bad movie, Michail Caine, and Christian Bale). And Up... well.. Up was the kiddie movie of the time, the one parents were going to take kids to see and it was in 3D. So really on their own, not many of those movies stood on the merit of them being great before it was officially released ot the public. Two were decided cause they had a good cast, one of which had a cult following through the comic book thing, and the third was the flavor of the month. And toystory... well... How do you not take your kids to see toy story. If you're 18 you grw up with it so you ahve to see it, and if you're younger... its TOY STORY! I mean... gah?
Wow. Has it ever occurred to you that its ok to like something without being obsessive over it? It's a little bit selfish to demand an entire industry to conform to exactly what you want it to be, to put out niche movies justifying your lifestyle choices. Just a little bit.

Don't respond. I already broke my "don't feed the troll rule" as it is.

A troll is someone that responds to every other post with an impenetrable wall of text and a "clever" picture bashing their opinion.

Statements like "public opinion and bothersome questions from the average movie goer ruined [Inception] for me more then anything else" just shows how hard you are trying to belong to some pretentious counter culture ideology to fit in. It's pathetic how hard you try to avoid anything popular like the plague because there is no way in hell anything popular isn't "dumbed down." The football player at school that pushed you around liked DiCaprio so you're not allowed to like him.

I know anything I say will not even phase your tortured mentality since you are beyond rational reasoning, so Merry Christmas.

Then perhaps you should fill in my shows. Take the questions I get, every single day, asking about a movie. You cant simply tell a customer to go away, or ignore them. Unless you want to be fired of course.

besides, I said I didnt like Decaprio (well, think he's over estimated). Thats not me being pretentious. Thats me saying I didnt want to see a movie. Just cause everyone likes something doesnt mean I have to. And I never told anyone they shouldnt see it, just I didnt see the big deal. it was the same way with Avatar.

You're the one trolling, opening a topic I had pretty much buried and did not care to review, pretentiously assuming about my life without experiencing it. I dont avoid whats popular, I just dont let it dominate me. I dont go to see something and waste time I could spend enjoying something just to see it, or just to talk about it. I watched the first and last five minutes of Inception, and so far thats gotten me through any question until I went and watched the whole thing since i hadnt and it was on the last week at the theatre. I'll admit, I can see what others would like it in, But I didnt find it appealing. Then again, i find crappy movies appealing, but I dont get around telling everyone that its good if they have a decided opinion against it. Perhaps you should take a good luck at yourself, since you decided to open this and tell me who the real troll is.

Now, I am done with this, so yes, Happy Holidays to you, since not every one is Christian and its pretentious to assume so

The best movie I saw this year was Joe Dantes' "The Movie Orgy" as it was clips from other movies and old bad TV that went for 4&1/2 hours and was made to be walked out on so you would not miss anything.

Also this was in it, someone beside me fell asleep and woke up to see this clip playing

Tron jumping sides at the end I thought was self explanitory, in the first movie it shows that he can reverse reprogramming(which CLU is very capable of) and when he comes into contact with Kevin his Tron idenity recognizes him as his friend and fights against the programing CLU had installed. As for what Quorra is, the ISOs basically reprisent humans in a way, kinda have to look at Tron as a HUGE biblical reference. Flynn being god, CLU being lucifer and the ISOs being human. As for what she can do in the real world, we'll have to wait and see. Either with a sequel or the tv mini series Tron Uprising, which takes place before Legacy and will explain everything that they didn't in the movie (which is weird cause the show comes out next year when it should have beend released before so that critics would be quiet about the story).

Just stating I dont like Inception (for all the "because the movie said so" reasoning) or Avatar (boring story and cartoonish villains) either so Im not holding that against you. Its the pretentious attitude that is pissing everyone off. Like hating people who became interested in the original Tron after watching Legacy. I dont think its a coincidence youve been called elitist several times. And Im not Christian either.

The only reason I responded to you in the first place is because posts like "I have fury when it comes to bandwagoning to things when I loved them first" are the definition of elitism. Its hilarious and really sad if you cant see that yourself.

A word of advice: If you are seriously trying to get your opinion across, you could do so without the "laziness" pictures and demeaning posts that make you come off as a complete prick. People will take you more seriously.

just watched it. have to agree with bob, roughly a b+. it's good in exactly the same way avatar was good, absolutely beautiful visuals. but the pacing was a bit worse than avatar and both movies suffer from simplistic stories. also daft punk cameo FTW! i laughed everytime they showed up.

B+ is a good way to describe it. Yes the plot and the the whole "ISOs will change the world" bit left me scratching my head, but the movies is worth seeing for the visuals and soundtrack alone. Seriously, go see it in imax 3d if you're gonna see it, because it was an awesome experience.

My only problems with the movie are few...

1)Sam enters the digital world in his real world clothes.
2)Though it was cool to see CLU return as the new villain; where is BIT?

3)Where is TRON?" What?! They can have Alan in the movie but not his creation?

and 4) The costumes... I was expecting something more like the characters from TRON 2.0

After all; The face of the character was just to tell you who it's "user" is.
Bit makes a SMALL appearence and Tron plays a big part in the movie.

My biggest issue with the plot was where Tron is launched into the sea, turns from orange to blue then BAM! End of movie. What!?

Movie was good, soundtrack was so much better. <3

I really liked the start of this movie. Everything seemed to be going somewhere. But in the end this movie was flat and felt like any other Hollywood action retread. A stale and forgettable taste. Maybe I just had high expectations loving the first TRON as a great stand alone movie that didn't need a sequel.

Not to mention I was super hyped for Daft Punk to play something original- I seriously thought that the 'DJ' scene was the only actual Daft Punk music. Turns out all that gritty, low toned nothing that you can hear in most episodes of 24 is the 'best music ever'. Even towards the start of the movie where the main character, whoever he was, was walking down into the secret TRON basement and then in the background, behind a cement wall was playing Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This' that was awesome, if I fell into a coma at that point of the movie I would of reawaken with 'TRON LEGACY IS AWESOME'.

But maybe I was hoping too much for Daft Punk too, after all their new stuff is lame so why wouldn't the movie be any different? That's enough about sold out musicians though.

So TRON. Hmm. Didn't really care for it much. Sure they'll probably make 5 more and a kids TV series but I'm already out. TRON is a sweet dream made from the 80s- both forever and literally. Legacy is just another farted out movie. A fart with good intentions and high production.

I don't really see how San Andreas fits into the whole 'modern games are brown and more brown' thing. I mean yeah, there's a desert. But you still have colorful cities, green countrysides, and even forests. I mean yeah, it certainly aimed for realistic graphics, but showcasing it alongside CoD and Halo just seems a bit unfair to me.

Whatever. I've never seen the first Tron and I'm not sure I have that much interest for this one. Maybe if I ever see the original I'll check this out.
