Moar pictures!

The Red Spy, who is suprisingly flexible in his planning!

Why yes, Sky does look cool in a red coat.

I imagine people looking in the book at it either going 'wtf' or laughing. I did both!

Note the 'Oh crap, he's got me on photo' look.

At the front, Sam, Eleuthera, then FlyingPeanut right in the corner. Along the back is CheezyOne, FrostyCoolSlug, me(Segadroid), StarStruckStrumpets, Trivun, Revelo, GLo Jones, thenumberthirteen, FamoFunk with her arm up, Root_of_all_evil behind her, and Andalusa.

And I finally made it back home as well (a little while ago actually, but I had to read this entire thread first).

I had a great time everyone, I'll see what I can do about uploading my pictures tomorrow (I think I only took 2 though) definitely will be back next year.
How was getting back? All went smoothly I hope and you enjoyed an extra night in Manc! :)

Getting back went very smoothly as well (besides the broken elevator back home...), I spent most of my remaining time in Manc chatting with Spy last night and buying stuff this morning. Oh, and powering through 'grapes of wrath' so I can start reading something fun again.

bonus pitchers low res pics of the skydiving group (Sky, Sega, Glo, Jed and Me) [http://pix.airkix.com/buypictures.php?yID=2011&mID=7&dID=23&tID=19:24] They're a bit slow to load, and terribly low-res.

Unsurprisingly Sky got the highscore at the skydiving thing.

I'm sad that I didn't take any pictures myself this year, but I'm glad others picked up the slack for me.
I ended up with about 3 and one was the Hostel's address another was a pub...

We should all get shoulder mounted cameras!

So, ill keep my summary brief:

Friday[/B] - Up early and on a train early (two things i generally hate...even with my love of trains i dont do "early") - to meet Joe (@Code_red) at picadilly train station. we pretty much arrived there at the same time so then started to search for the hostel (as we were the first ones in manchester that morning, and i had a general idea where it was) We managed to stand directly in front of the hostel without seeing it (Achievement unlocked: "Blind Tourists"), we eventually managed to find the very well hidden, well lit 5 story building on a main road also known as "the hostel". Then we waited for Sky, Jedora And Spy at Picadilly Gardens (for those of you that dont know that area, it's a Bus/tram station with a fountain and an unusually high number of nutjobs). After everyone slowly arriving in dribs and drabs we ended up in a pub. Fun times ensued, and we discussed the finer points in life, including Hilarious adverts we all remember.

Later in the evening we went to see batman live, which was truly brilliant and although slightly "hammed up" in places, Me & Meik (@Cpt_Oblivious) officially started the "Poison Ivy's Ass Appriciation society"...As well as him showing me the Gay Batman picture every FIVE[/B] minutes (thanks meik!). Was a fantastic show though and i would strongly recommend it.

Then i walked back to the hostel, then back to the station and missed my train. Good end to the day!

(Then morgan Arrived)

Saturday:[/B] Paintball

Started well - I missed the others by 5 minutes and had to play "Tram Catch up" - Luckily the others played "Miss the hourly bus" so i managed to catch up in time, And i was thoroughly entertained by the conversation between Tilly & Joe Regarding POTAYYYTOES and other things. Other bus waiting games included "Mess with hungover mike" and "look at all of the well off people drive by in their big saloon cars". Eventually the bus came, It wasnt our bus, but eventually our[/I] bus came and we went to paintballing.

After last year's Escapism i was confident i would continue my epic killing spree and be completely invunerable to all bullets. Oh how i was wrong. Sadly my fellow Bravo Squad member Joe was completely incapacitated by a tree so i was left alone. Poor ammo distrubution often left me with no ammo, and highly bruised, so i did the manly thing and quit the afternoon (mainly because i was monstering through paintballs, and getting shot hurts). The Curry was Nice, and the ground square was highly contested.

Took the bus & Tram back to manchester after discovering the tram we were looking for and i went home with the intention of getting my car and coming back. Sadly i forgot to get my car and fell asleep, thus missing all of the afternoon's festivities. Nice one Steve.

Sunday [/B] - This one was a bit different to the others: Me, Joe & two of my Non-Escapist Friends went to the southport airshow, Where we saw the Red Arrows, Helicopters, a Radiated Spitfire cockpit and Extortionate prices for chilled products.

As Joe so elequantly put it:"Southport; Where the only thing dearer than the accommodation is the ice creams"[/I]

We think he should work for the tourism board.

We then decided to take him to the trafford centre, and may have slightly overloaded him, although a quick trip to "Quench" and a LARGE lassi soon had him ready for the long journey home.

That sadly, was the end of my Slightly different Escapism '11, but it was brilliant fun, and was great seeing everyone again.

This is Insanum, Signing out.

2011 was a fine year for Escapism, and I do hope that those who attended enjoyed being there as much as I have.

For those of you who don't what Escapism is, or how to take part in future events, join the group HERE [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapism-UK] to get updates.

An incredible shout out to DragonsAteMyMarbles who managed to elect himself to wait for and greet some late arriving Escapists at Piccadilly Station, all whilst the majority of us were at Batman. His unending patience and overall friendly nature helped out several members greatly, myself certainly included. I hope yours was a good book Mike!

Without further ado, here's a sample of some of the pictures (or go HERE [http://s690.photobucket.com/albums/vv266/LemonkaUE/Escapism%202011/] for the album, just note the photo order is backwards for some reason).

Then there were seven...

Not as many pictures as I would like to have taken (does anyone have any from the Hard Rock Café?), but hopefully these do the job. I can only hope to see more faces appear in the future pictures of successful events as Escapism continues to grow.

I feel it would be an insult to not thank those who attended for making it such a wonderful time through entertaining banter and laughter (even when I cocked the bus time table up, my bad!). You have been an extraordinary group, one that makes every moment in the build-up worthwhile and ensures the continuation of this event for years to come. Escapism stands as one of the greatest community driven events on our site, but only through your efforts has it earned this title. So well done everyone, achievement unlocked.

Best of luck to you all with next years event, I'll be keeping my eye out when things start to develop.

At this point, I must take note that Jedoro is probably one of the coolest-looking people I'd ever laid eyes on; he was wearing a leather jacket and red-rimmed sunglasses, and very much had the air of a man whom one would severely hope was not on the opposing team during paintball.
I'd originally planned to wear a brown duster coat instead, but money issues kept me from getting it in time. Next year, though, I'll hopefully have it.

I'm also a bit annoyed that five of my six hits in paintball were friendly fire. From the same damn person. From Team Mongoose. Times like those I hate being so good at sneaking.

OT: Attending cost a pretty penny, but this was definitely one of the better times of my life. Good company, getting away from everything back home, meeting new people, putting actual people to usernames, and most importantly good company (yes, it's worth mentioning twice) just made the weekend utterly amazing. It's been suggested that I work on an Escapism US so the folks overseas can visit the states, but I'd rather not subject you good people to the hell that is known as Customs.

There are some plans for me to come to the states next year anyway, so if the Escapism end up being around the same time and location I'd definitely be up for it. Having just checked you profile and location, I'd say anything near you wouldn't be too far from our planned route/location.

Good to know, but I suppose it'd be up to the votes to decide where we went. And should I somehow get this under way, I thankfully have a few planning veterans to ask for advice.

The pi-mp t-shirt was from Tshirthell.com, now sadly defunct. There was also three from Split Reason as well. Doomsday Arcade/ Press X not to die and Keep out of Direct Sunlight.
I adore Split Reason now, after winning a free T-Shirt of my choice.

You should see Farnborough Air Show. One small burger cost £10. A bottle of coke cost close to £5.
And I thought Air Tattoo was bad with prices.

I still don't understand why people use replicas in paintballing. I especially don't understand when they use them for a reason other than looking totally badass.

I shall happily take the job. I would start by making those street vendors improve their sales pitch. For example, calling potential customers weirdos isn't the best way to get a sale =P

With our crew sort of kind of mostly half-assembled, we ventured back to the hostel (or, as Insanum, who is another noteworthy cool dude, dubbed it, "the fuck-bunker"), wherein we discussed matters for a little while, then pissed off down to the pub.
The reason i called it the fuck bunker is actually Meik's fault (@Cpt_Oblivious) - He posted this picture on twitter whilst he was en-route.http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg738/scaled.php?tn=0&server=738&filename=3c9ic.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640

What an amazing weekend this was. Loved meeting all of you awesome people, some of you for the second or third time. It's good to put a face to the anonymous internet tags.

Special thanks goes, deservedly, to Red_Spy. He was an amazing organiser, he helped out everyone, and was generally the reason this Escapism ran so smoothly. Knowing Manchester probably helped him too. I don't envy the person who ends up organising this next year (although me and The Root Of All Evil should organise it for Leicester...) So hooray for Red Spy, and hooray for everyone.

Edit - Oh yeah, I should totally thank Sky14Kemea too, since she put me up for the night when I was stuck in Sheffield.
