I'm not going as far as calling all of the Escapist contests 'hoaxes' yet, but I'm starting to get awfully suspicious. The last dozen or so have only been won by extremely new members. By that I mean members with a post count less than like, ten, who appear to have no input other than with the contest. Let's see some regulars win a contest or two, dammit.

On a lighter note, congratulations Red Faction Contest winners. Especially if you're real, etc.

I think a lot of people create accounts especially for the contest.

I remember in the Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage contest a while ago, two of the the three winners didn't have any posts; they hadn't even set an avatar.

Kind of annoying, but it does attract new users to the site, which is always a good thing.

Maybe they're pro contest enterers and sign up purely for contests...
Kinda like tournament players who sign up for competitions just to trounce their opponents thoroughly?

I agree completely, I think it was... a fallout competition? I think of the 10 of them 2 had no posts at all, 7 had 5 or less and the last one had about 30 or so

I think there should be a minimum post requirement to enter them, at least that would get them to come and at least vote, THEN run off with our prizes :(

Flame me for it if you like. I personally don't like Red Faction and I wasn't even eligable so I'm not saying this out of spite. I'm just yet to see a long-term member win anything. I also fail to see what's wrong with the topic title :/

ThaBenMan [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/ThaBenMan] was one of the winners of the Operation Anchorage [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.87851#1331361] competition.

But I have to agree that for it to be this biased towards non-members, there must be a helluva lot of new members that join every time there is a contest. But I think that's kind of the idea; to encourage new people to come to the site. If only say 10% of these new members stay (as we've already shown that the number of new members every time there is a competition outnumbers the number of active members on the site) then that's a lot of new traffic which implies more ad revenue for the site.

Always cast Life3 at the start of any thread.

Also, I would like to echo OP's indignation re: not winning any prizes. What the hell?? Where's my prize? I want a prize...

There is no s in coincidence.
That would be a spelling error. Nothing to do with grammar.
Listen Bub, I'm typing in English from Italian, so excuse me if I can't tell the difference between a spelling and a grammar error.

And spelling coincidence as coinsidence is still a pretty big error.

To be honest I never noticed this trend, but I shall look into it.

I was one of 5 Winners for the Slogan Contest and I'd been around for quite awhile at that point... though I don't know if that counts.

If you can't tell the difference, then how are you qualified to flame someone for said differences? This is not a flamethrower attack, just a question. :p

Oh, and coincidence is easy to misspell if you try to spell it phonetically. Because, according to the, so called, rules of phonetics, it should be spelled with an "s".
