I love both CoD and Halo. They are popular games to bash on these forums because this forum is generally for nerds, and Halo and CoD are both games that are considered mainstream.

As I said on v:

popular games are popular for a reason.

"Hello.

One thing I cannot stand is people who refuse to try or insult games just because the are popular.

With games, has gotten to the point where these people almost outnumber the fans.

I used to be one of you, until I tried Halo CE back in 2003.

I became the equlivent of a star wars nerd. I read the books, learned the Canon , and discussed the various reasons as they came up, debated the history that was legends with the rest of the universe form, etc.

I laughed at COD, it was a feeble ww2 shooter. Halo 3 became the biggest entertainment release ever in the US, etc.

Long story short, I tried mw, I loved it, I play both.

Anybody mind telling me why you guys won(t try these?"

I like Cod4 i just think think they should just stop making games because they over shadow others much better than them. And they have kinda become a monopoly on the fps market.

EDIT:Oh and i dislike halo because ever one that likes it ,thinks its the best game ever..they really do my brother is one.
That is a massive generalization to make with purely anecdotal evidence. Secondly, you just said that you dislike halo solely because other people like it. That's a very illegitimate reason.

OT: People want to stand out from the crowd, so they choose to rag on popular games. Sometimes there is genuine dislike, but most of it is nullified by the mute button, which no-one seems to have discovered.
I also dislike when people just say this or that is overrated even if it may be good ,there just trolling.Well i should've phrased that better.I couldn't care less for the halo series played 1, 2. and 3 all the way through ,liked the first one t,the second ones online was good and there was no point for a 3rd one, as it was the exact same as the other ones. And reach isn't my type of game. What i should have said was ,I hate when people say its the best game ever(and yes a lot do its there favorite game and its usually people who haven't got a chance to play a lot of games.I know people personally who do this and online you will find plenty of praise. And about generalizing there is no way not to generalize when talking opinion and statistics on a internet forum.I hate when people compare it to other games when its not a good game to compare with.

Well, considering that most of the people playing CS:S anymore are hardened "pro's", it's really not surprising that you get that feeling. Same goes for Killing Floor; griefers and idiots can't stand to play it because of the sheer difficulty level, so they are usually non-existent.

CoD and Halo, on the other hand, seem to cater to new-comers. Therefore, n00bs abound, and MP is ruined.
Since when was making the game approachable to new players a bad thing? Especially when you are implying that it is the inexperienced players themselves who ruin the game.

So what you're saying is this: you don't like the games because they're popular.
Hate the games? No. I hate the assholes that make me not want to play them. I actually enjoy the campaigns from CoD and Halo.

@Jabberwock xeno

I don't hate the games. They are really good games. But Halo 3 and Halo Reach with the latest COD games are not the gifts from God that reviewers and fans claim they are. I hate them for their biased and blind views that make no logical sense.

I dont hate them, i just prefer Red Orchestra style gameplay in my FPS's.

the early CoD games i adored so much and got me into Military history
and im obsessed with the Halo lore.

But gameplay wise, i dont care for them much.

Well I will express my feelings now after 4 pages of replies. I play CoD because I think past the assholes and past the people using things that are blatantly unbalanced the game (CoD4) is a very deep and good game. The one thing I hate hate hate about the community though is the originality singularity that is present in the youtube community of the game. An example of this, go on youtube and type in "twixtor mw2" and you will see 5 pages full of videos with these guys using a plugin to slow down a clip of the guy shooting and reloading the gun.
Another thing I hate about the community is the jargon birthed from these winners. e.
"u mad bro?"
"cool story bro"
"why are you crying?"
Etc. etc.

"Oh hey, welcome to the Escapist, what's your favor- oh. Halo? Really? My favorite game isn't even out yet. You've probably never heard of it, it's called Minecraft and it's indie as f... what do you mean you've heard of it? Whatever, you wouldn't get it because it doesn't have amazing graphics or space marines."
As perfect as the marraige between image and dialogue is. I'm pissed off that I now have to know that this guy exists.

I don't play online, your quibbles are lost on me.

I think CoD stopped being innovative past CoD4. CoD2 introduced the best handling in a game of all time which no one can deny. CoD4 introduced the deep class system and now that is mimicked to a tee on virtually all multiplayer FPSs. Past that though it was garbage. WaW was horrendous. MW2 tried to do too much, WITHOUT a beta test, which just screams "Fuck this game up". Black Ops is terrible. It's all the worst of MW2 married to all the worst of WaW. The gross unbalance of MW2, and the horrible controlling/maps/character drawing of WaW. The series has one last chance in MW3 for Infinity Ward to pull it's head out of it's ass, listen to it's community, and produce a title that is innovative. Beyond that there is no hope and the series is effectively dead.

I will not comment on Halo because I don't even own an Xbox so my experience with the series is limited to going to a friend's house and getting smacked by his Xbox knowledge and hating the experience.
