It's like the ghostly image dancing just out of the peripheral view, vanishing as a phantasm whenever it is focused on. This isn't exclusive to sight, though, as there are still mysteries in life which we really do not have a grasp of. From whether or not the washing machines actually completely ingest socks, to where the bread goes when you stick it in the toaster (and where the toast comes from).

Given how hands-on this community can be at times, we know a lot about each other. But not everything. So, does anyone have any Mysteries of the Escapist they're willing to share. Perhaps we can get some answers in this thread as well.

My first mystery is what happened to Gigantor, again. He returned, promised to be more active, and again disappeared in a puff of smoke.

As well as that, where the moderation team keeps their banhammers when they aren't in-use. I'm fairly certain Ultrajoe keeps his in places unfit for mortals, but what about the others?

And finally, whether or not SpinWhiz and Russ Pitts still have their back-and-forths even though the Escapist Show isn't done anymore.

So, anyone else care to ask or answer?

Why has The Escapist started using review scores? I read the [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/7148-Why-Were-Using-Review-Scores]official editorial[/a], but that explanation was just a load of PR non-sense about "industry standards". The Escapist prides itself on striving to be ahead of the rest of the gaming media, so why downgrade content for the sake of attracting an audience already more than catered to by GameSpot and the like?

I suppose that mystery would be: what goes on in the editors' head boxes?
I think they just thought to themselves "OH MY GOD WE AREN'T A REAL MAGAZINE" and thought giving review scores were a cheap way to grant themselves some kind of legitimacy as a review source.

So far the only game I've ever seen advertise The Escapist's review blurb on their commercial was Adult Swim's Robot Unicorn Attack, with the blurb in question being, "Pretty much the gayest thing ever."

Sterling.

How the people with the 'Thanks' badge were awarded theirs. I know this cannot be answered; but it is a good mystery.

[sub]Or those who got the Gaming Uber Ales badge (I whored so; yeah)[/sub]

To discover how people got their Thanks! badges, you must first earn your own Thanks! badge. There's quite an easy explanation for the Gaming Uver Alas badge though :)

I know how to get the Uber Ales; its just getting around to reading so many articles would be a pain in the rear.

Haha, I'm beginning to suspect there's an Escapist cult going on with the Thanks! badge. Everything is rather vague and abstract...*suspicious face*

Its a Templar thing, in order to get the Thanks badge you need to re enact the death of EvilJosephine, she was cruelly taken from us when the mods deemed her too evil.

It saddens me that I don't know any of the people who have been referenced on this thread (Apart from UltraJoe)

EvilJosephine is UltraJoe's twin sister.

They probably went down into the basement. That's why we don't hear from them for long periods of time.

So was MaxTheReaper a boy or a girl?
He was a dude. =]

Hmm.. I got one, sorta. How do the mods decide who to make a Red Guard? and when do they decide they need more. xD Tis a mystery to me.

Right-o. I don't get it, honestly. I know that being a jerkass is "kewl", but still - just who in their right mind would like him?!

Well as we don't all use hammers, we choose a storage of our own. Ultrajoe's Dominator.. yeah, you don't want to know. Seriously. My sword is stored in my mop, which is in turn kept in a special rack I had built.. out of souls bound to metal, obviously. Wilson has an eternal fire burning in which his Sausage-Onna-Stick rests when not in use. No idea about the others as it's not the kind of question which pops up around our office Liquid Awesome cooler.

He traverses the Vast Infinite web offering support to the mysterious FeNinja. Companion craps are cool like that. There's probably sushi involved somewhere, he loves to get back at the sodding fish.

Because.

The Thanks! badge is a mystery to all but the Staff. Don't question it for naught but calamity lies down that investigatory path. Rumour has it that forum members can subtly hint that others should receive it if sufficient evidence for their contribution can be found and the right people whispered to. Mistaken suggestions are.. unpleasant.

EvilJosephine is like the Chaos Space Marines. Except more badass.
