Hmm. I think Yahtzee doesn't really mix well with other people. Best to leave him locked in a room somewhere and maybe sometimes aggravate him just enough to keep his hate alive. Failing that, Mike and Yahtzee should just let rip at each other. Gloves off and have at it. It'd clear the air and probably be entertaining as well, unlike this first episode.

You can't let Yahtzee do unscripted, proper big boy talk he just doesn't cut it. Great at doing what he does but he can't keep up with people that actually know about stuff.

Pretty interesting stuff here. It did get pretty off-topic, but it was still worth listening to. Certainly not boring, at least. I think I am going to have to pay attention to this. Looking forward to more! ^_^

"actually know about stuff"? are you serious? Ben Croshaw doesn't know about 'stuff'. Holy crap.

Actually Yahtzee, I do depend greatly on your opinion before I buy games. I've decided to not spend several hundred dollars due critique about some games, and in turn spent money on your recommendations, the best examples being my avoidance of Dead Space and my purchase of Just Cause 2. And you know what? You've yet to be incorrect, as far as my enjoyment has been concerned. The games I opted out of, I played later at a friend's place or as a rental, and been deeply pleased that I never bothered to spend my own cash on them.

As a man of limited funds and time, I find your reviews truly invaluable. Thank you.
I guess if it works for you but still if you followed ALL oh yahtzee advice how would you buy any games at all? I thourghly enjoyed dead space anyway

I mean really while he does make excellent points and knows what hes talking about ZP is more for entertainment than an actual reveiw

but eyah what ever works

It'd be nice to explain the concept of what you're taking appart. What's this DRM?

As for PC Gaming - it gets to the point where buying newer and better computer isn't really worth it unless you work on it as a graphic or something like that. PC should stay as more of a work tool, with few things to fuck around in the mean time (but we have facebook for that now) and leave games for specified medium that they made for - consoles and eventually something better ;)

Overally I liked it ;)
you dont actually need a monster rig to be able to play current games, hell my laptop does pretty well, I dont wuite understand what you mean when you say "PC should stay more of a work tool"

are you saying that people shouldnt have machines thhat they devote enitrely to PC gaming? or that we shouldnt even bother having PC's that can run the latest games?

Yahtzee doesn't often advise anyone to do anything. Simple fact is that he's got an exceptionally well developed critical eye, and whether or not he likes something of a game, if it gets a mention, I learn what I need to know to make my decision. No other game reviewer pulls that off for me.

I don't know if I like the comparison of DRM that actively hurts the consumer by stopping them from playing just because an internet connection or server goes down and makes them call up customer service if they install it too many times to those little metal detector things or whatever they are in stores and security guards.

If I go to a store and buy a game, they just swipe the game box over this little magnetic thing or whatever it is at the cash register before I leave and it's no problem. It doesn't hurt me in any way, and in the rare event that it doesn't work and the alarm goes off as I leave, someone comes over, looks at my receipt, and says I can leave. It's not them assuming I'm a thief as much as it is making it harder for thieves to do anything while not really imposing on the paying customers (again, only rarely do the little tags set off the alarm, and when they do you're only held up for a few seconds, a minute tops unless customer service at the store sucks). For the thieves, it is probably harder to steal a game from a store where they have the tags and you have to get an associate to get the game out of a locked display case for you which you then pay for immediately and you can't take it elsewhere in the store if you didn't pay for it yet.
So in short, if it actually does impede paying customers, it does so very little, and it makes it a lot harder to steal.

Then on the other hand, I have this crap where I can't play if an authentication server goes down, or if the internet in my area goes down, just because the publishers are trying to keep people from pirating their game with these constant checks. Meanwhile, pirates download the game, they download a crack for the DRM, and they can play just fine while the paying customers are left to wait until the servers come back online.
So on the other hand, paying customers are severely impeded when they become impeded, and pirates are free to play without any trouble.

Big difference between DRM and store security if you ask me. One works rather well, and one is a big waste of everybody's time that actually encourages people to steal because they get a better product for doing so.

...And then I hit play after writing all this and they say exactly that. God dammit. That's what I get for pausing to comment on things I want to comment on as I hear them instead of waiting for the end and forgetting something. Okay I'm just going to listen to the rest now and not write anything else.

Interesting, a good "listen". I'll be looking forward to future installments.
One thing, though, if only to answer to Mikey regarding DRM. I've been that loyal customer who actually bought the game, lost Internet connection mid-game and had the game crash, loosing all my progress in the process. That was Assassin's Creed 2, incidentally. And I don't even live in a third world country or the boondocks! (My ISP can be temperamental) Now I understand the need of publishers and developers to protect their product and fend off attacks from pirates, but sometimes the DRM is just too much, surely there's a middle ground. So no, it's not just one guy who posted a rant on the Internet and everyone picked up on it.

Just a small critique...a moderator to keep the discussion going would help. The conversation bogged down a few times where it was "oh, yeah, good point...(sound of crickets chirping)." A back and forth is nice, but you need someone whose sole job is to help keep the conversation moving. In the current setup, you are having to push the conversation and provide insight. Let someone else push the conversation. If the conversation ends up rolling they can sit back and do nothing. Yet when it bogs down they can jumpstart it.

Extremely Boring, you really need to work on your flow. You sound like you're talking in different rooms with no organization
To be fair, it's a first for those two together. If you look at Yahtzee on his podcasts on Australian Gamer, there is a somewhat better flow. What would be needed is an additional person, because having just two guys talk makes it awkward at certain points, you either get two completely opposite opinions and they talk way too long about it, or they share the same opinion, and they don't talk about it at all.

#corrections

I can only imagine this will get better fast, or go down like the extra consideration - interesting, but no meat. A brain fart, if you will.

It seems that they're trying hard with Extra Consideration (trying to make issues to discuss) so I hope some of that rubs off onto the podcast here.

There were just too many awkward pauses strewn throughout, and the conversation derailed way too many times.

I would rather listen to Shamus or Rossingol talk about PC gaming. You know, people who are actually PC gamers?

I think he just doesn't mix with mikey, he did a podcast on his website with his friend gabe and it flowed really well and was incredibly funny
