I was with this up until the bit about gaming PCs being two or three times the cost of consoles. That's just not right. The only time you're paying that is if you buy a brand name, pre-built PC, rather than having one built.

Almost all PC games have settings you can tweak if they don't run properly. My PC cost me about 400 pounds over a year ago, tt'll last me at least as long as a games console's lifespan, and I use it far more frequently, for far more things, and this isn't even the level of PC you need to run most current games at high graphical settings, it's better than that.

Edit: Also, PC games are cheaper.
400 pounds is about $650, with which you could pick up a couple of consoles.

Don't forget to send in your questions to podcast@escapistmag.com! (Seriously, we'd really like to have something to talk about.)
I suppose I'll have a few available for you ;D

This was informative. Oh and yay, Escapist Webbys! Gaming is a lifestyle XD

As for the 360 rumor, it's probably just a rumor. I don't believe they'll reveal the 360's replacement this year. Maybe a demo of what they're looking at doing but who knows... I'd be surprised if they expected their target market, who have just unpackaged their 360's, to instantly spend more money on the next box.

I'm a PC gamer that got back into console gaming fairly recently. I have a console every generation since PS1, but the graphics of PC kinda drew me in. But now a lot of the games I want to play are not on the PC (Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Resonance of Fate, etc), so I'm forced to go back to console. I think the hardcore PC games will die out eventually, making games for consoles simply cost less and they can sell to a bigger audience. One thing that's mentioned in the podcast is control, I think the next gen consoles will have mouse and keyboard support. That is simply the evolution of the consoles. They are basically closed computers. PC gaming will devolve into flash games and simple Ipad games.

Damn it you guys need to advertise these podcasts better, I had no idea you were doing podcasts until I stumbled on one a few days ago!

OT: so long as some companies are making PC games, and I think there will always be companies prepared to serve niche markets, then I think we're good. PC gamers have long gotten over the fact that there is no longer such a thing as PC AAA, there is now just multi-platform AAA which is in other words console AAA with PC ports.... Fine, we're dealing with that, just so long as some of the smaller companies and indies still serve our need for complexity (yes extra credits is is actually complexity that we want) then there needn't be any unpleasantness :)
