Hello all.
I'm stuck on a bus so I need some distraction.

I've been on these forums for close to four years now and I was thinking back on all of the bizarre things I've seen people post.
The fine people of The Escapist always seem to have ideas on ways to change society/politics/arts for the better or for the worse and, in this thread, I want to focus on the latter.

What are the most ridiculous suggestions you've seen on The Escapist in relation to societal change? They can be serious, such as mandatory abortions, or otherwise, mandatory banana houses.

Obviously, no naming of names or specifically targeting people would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, I shall just state the three supreme laws I will put into effect once I'm voted Supreme Overlord.

1) No coffee except plain black served outside - want something else, make it yourself.
2) No Capitalizing Every Word Of A Sentence.
3) Insulting someone because of their job status gets them your job, and you get theirs (even if they're unemployed, tough break, shouldn't have been a jackass).

I wouldn't ever wish this, but it occurs to me that MANY of the problems persisting in politics today are from old fogies and their Cold War mentality. It's clear the younger generations are sick of it, but for some reason these types keep getting elected all over the world (or just taking power). I think the world will be a much better place once they all die. But again, I'm content to just wait it out.

I 'unno, never did like the term 'objective' being used around entertainment criticism. In my mind, 'good' and 'bad' aren't objective concepts. Sometimes it just seems to lead to jumped up little pricks with a larger vocabulary than they know how to use crowing something along the lines of 'MY OPINION IS OBJECTIVELY RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS A MINDLESS SHEEP'. Just gets under my skin.

Yes, the irony of me saying that isn't lost on me.

I'm being insipid and moaning instead of being constructive. Please excuse me.

Yup, for quite a while, in different establishments. If the hotel has Italian guests and it's morning...well, let's say 5 Italians come for their coffee, and you'll end up having to make 12 different coffees. I'm out of that now, though, working a differently stressful job in broadcasting. Still service, in a way, people need their TV!

Actually, now that I think of it, I'll and a fourth law.

While I agree with the sentiment, it's not really a problem with the philosophy of objectivity, per se. It's more a problem of people not understanding what "objective" actually means and how you can truly be objective; That is to say, when it comes to entertainment like music, films, television, video games, or books, there is very little that can be called "objectively bad" and practically nothing that can be called "objectively good".

Where it all goes to hell is when people start believing that because they didn't like something, they can start waxing poetic about how it fails on every level. I don't care how many inconsistencies or plot holes you point out, it doesn't make something "objectively" bad.

OT: Every day, there will be a two-four hour allotment of time in which people can daydream, doze, or nap. Preferably in the mid-afternoon.

Anything else I could come up with would be pretty totalitarian and a little bit vindictive, just because of a few petty things I've tired of seeing.

I appreciate that many other people might not agree with position but I have the vote so I don't care.

If that doesn't work for you. My other platform is

The raising of the voting age to 30.
The immediate shooting of any politician who describes a policy in less than 15 words.

The most ridiculous/controversial solutions I've seen on here were definitely from Danyal's threads in R&P. Anyone up for legalising bestiality? Then there are the threads where the OP states not to disagree with their point of view or even say anything negative - like that's ever going to happen.

Some of my solutions that I think could work well, but are pretty blue sky:
- Forcing everyone who has green space in their house to grow some food.
- Outlawing unnecessary car journeys either by very high taxes or law. (I hate crowded roads & emissions)
- Allowing everyone to vote on every piece of legislation, but only if they can demonstrate some basic knowledge of what the legislation does and what its effects will be first. (This weeds out the morons and means the experts in a field are writing laws on something, pretty much every time)

I would love to create a public website/mobile app that allows drivers and riders to register for carpooling/delivery/whatever. Riders input their starting location and the address they would like to get to. That trip gets compared to drivers that somehow register their routes and allows them to select who they would like to pick up. It would be like slugging [http://www.slug-lines.com/slugging/About_Slugging.asp], only with a mobile app.[footnote] I guess I could just make an app for slugging[/footnote]

In retrospect, I don't know why I didn't research that first. There's plenty of apps for carpooling.

The most ridiculous things I have ever read is that we all should take the money we spend on weapons and defence, and use that to feed, cloth and educate all the people who got the short end of the stick in this world. That would be enough money to abolish poverty multiple times over.
Then we all smoke a blunt, and commit ourselves to the exploration of space.

Ridiculous, right? Humans are no where near that smart, or kind, or wise to ever pull something like that off.
