I'd argue that the "Webby" award itself is more significant, as any poll on the internet can be easily rigged by the copious amounts of users who will just vote for the sake of voting/getting badges/their friend asked them to/whatever. Just because a lot of people vote for a site it doesn't mean it's the best.
