I work in a hospital laboratory. I'm the guy that does the tests that explain to your doctor what's wrong with you. Without me, your doctor is an idiot. And i will warn you, there is no career that will crush your soul like health care. Stay away, kids!
Is it really that bad? I was going for a biology B.S and was thinking of a laboratory setting for future employment, since working in a lab sounded cool.

Pre-employability tutor.
Basically my company talks to the Job Centre and Recruitment agencies and says "hey you got anyone unemployed or needing more training?" and then they send them to us and I tell them how to get jobs and shit. Imagine a teacher for the unwashed slightly thick masses.
Once I get some more training I'll be able to assess, mark and hand out NVQs (college level qualifications) so that's pretty cool. Not something I imagined doing.

I'm the guy you get to call in to when you're having phone/internet/tv problems and be angry at. Jobs ok and the pay is decent, although it kinda forces you to have a negative outlook on people in general since you deal with so many assholes

Yeah but you work in a call centre for the people who run the phones.

Call centre extraordinaire!
Good point.

To be honest I can't really complain. Tenner an hour and that's not counting commission or bonuses, frequent karaoke nights on Friday, people are chill as fuck. It's totally not what I expected

Materials Physics Lab manager in research university , basically i calibrate, clean equipment, as well as help to set up experiments. I do it because i chose to keep my status quo when graduated from said university. I've been helping around the lab when i was studying so it was very easy to get the job. Pay sucks but as long as i can eat, pay my bills and afford to game i'm fine with where i'm.

I do indeed. 3rd floor to be exact.

And that big fancy building is literally 2 minutes away from my favourite late night bar ^_^

I think they filmed a scene for the Angelus in that building, you should feel humbled working there. XD

I don't know any bars around there, I'm so lame!

I'm an archivist and records manager.

I'm currently working on a large digitisation project which is grand but it's not the most engaging thing I've ever been involved in.

Looking forward to sinking my teeth into more interesting projects once this one ends in the new year.
You can at least rest easy with the knowledge that what you're doing is a godsend for anyone who wants to access the documents that you're digitising, and that you're preserving (and making accessible) human knowledge for future (and current) generations. I die a little inside every time I find out I have to wade through a physical archive located half a country away to find the information I need. Heck, I die a little inside every time I find out I have to wade through a physical archive located in the same building as my workspace, because that means my elegant solution to whatever problem is at hand suddenly became too much of a timesink to be feasible. Physical archives are cozy, but they're not terribly practical when you need information en masse.

At least someone appreciates it. :3

Thank you, that's actually lovely to hear.

Sysadmin, currently in a smaller business though may be moving to an ISP soon. Doesn't sound like much but after years of being 'the IT student' it feels good to be living the dream.

Looking for work as a personal trainer. Got turned down by the biggest gym where I live because, to paraphrase my interviewer, I'm a good personal trainer, but a shitty salesman. Helping people get into shape, I can do. Trying to push expensive training session packages on people who can't afford them, like the gym equivalent of a used car salesman, is something I have no interest in, whatsoever (also I suck at it).

So while my efforts so far in the job hunt have ended in failure, my main methods of doing productive stuff include training in Muay Thai (useful experience for a personal trainer to have), Yoga (also useful for a trainer), and working on my own recipes for stuff like homemade hummus, almond butter, soups, etc. (helps me save money compared to buying pre-packaged stuff).

Software QA engineer. I don't always usually see lines of codes though, more to testing software builds and finding out bugs and highlighting unexpected results based on testing scripts.

I work at a regional supermarket as a photo/electronic clerk. So I help old people print photos and try to explain to them what mega-pixels are. It was fun at first, but the past three months have been the biggest mental strain ever. Our photo hardware went to shit and people blame us for literally everything. Hopefully, in the coming weeks I land my first corporate job and leave retail for good.
Can you help me print my photos from my ten year old Motorola phone so I can complain that your printer is crap because it made my pictures fuzzy?

I maintain one day working in sales in a specialist camera shop. It is a nice regular (small) income to supplement my work as a photographer. I am looking a 40 and Photography is all I do well. Since leaving newspapers, (they are doomed but I picked up a decent redundancy package) I have picked up a few regular clients, but freelance work ebbs and flows so having a regular bit of income is a nice emotional crutch. Besides, it turns out I can sell cameras, and as there is no commission I don't feel like a shit-heel doing it.

Currently I'm unemployed and looking for any kind of job so I can make my student loan payments but I'm trained as an Administrative Assistant. During my (unpaid) internship I actually served as a Client Administrator at a local insurance company.
