Also, internet, there seems to be a surprisingly common 'secret' here that "I thought Fallout 3 was better than NV"... I thought that was largely considered to be the consensus opinion? No?

I've not spoken to anybody that thinks NV is anything better than the biggest expansion pack ever, but not really comparing to 3 because it's like the same game, but worse because you can't be a cyborg. Is it seriously a thing to be "ashamed" of to think that F3>NV?
Around these parts it's fairly common to prefer NV to Fallout 3. Personally I didn't even like Fallout 3, but loved New Vegas. Despite the virtually identical mechanics and visuals, the way the games are designed was fairly different; I found the way that my actions influenced the events of the plot in New Vegas much more rewarding than doing sidequests in a huge, open wasteland in Fallout 3. New Vegas is a lot more linear, but gives you more choices that influence the plot (including letting you kill any named character at any time they appear).

Popular Games: Never played any CoD or MW. I think I want to see this atomic explosion you get roasted in I've heard so much about but actually the more "realistic" a game gets, the more I'm bored. That's why i never ever play anything sports related as a game unless they are "unrealistic" like Mario Kart, Looney Tunes Basketball (an all time favorite), Nintendo World Cup and such stuff.

Not-Finished-Game: Countless ones...I seem to get sidetracked close to the end all the time. It happened with Witcher 1, Dead Space, FF6,...andsoon. Mostly an hour or so before it's over. And i mean I own Shadow of the Colossus but went to the second Colossus and stopped playing. Just didn't like it that much but the atmosphere was great. Puzzle games I always do like and still stop playing them before the end, too, like: Portal 2, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, etcpp...

Hated/"It's complicated": I seem to be the only one who likes Janeway from Star Trek Voyager. Regarding games? I don't know...I liked both endings of Mass Effect 3, the one before the DLC and the one after though I changed my choice of ending during the DLC. I didn't play Half Life either and have no desire to play one of them (or a third). I thoroughly enjoy playing League of Legends and I do like the fluffy colors and the "childishness" of the lore and the characters and everything and have no intention to even try DOTA2 (mostly bc I don't have time for another and my friends don't play it either and I simply, like I said, like LoL).

-I absolutely goddamn loved Wind Waker. ESPECIALLY because of the sailing

- I've never played past the first 10 minutes of The Ocarina of Time

- I've never played a Mass Effect game, but I watched the endings online and I got sad....

- Never played a Duke Nukem game, nor the original Deus Ex...And I've never played any Zelda games except the two mentioned above.

- I grow emotional attachments to characters far too easily. XCOM is an emotional trainwreck for me. *I'm never going to watch Game Of Thrones for this reason*

Well, i have a few, like:

I never play games on any higher mode than easy mode.

I like call of duty.

I cried at mass effect 3's (SPOILERS)synthesis(SPOILERS) ending. (the extended cut ending!)

And... that's about it.

I did not like Bioshock 1, it was well made but failed to wow me.

I didn't think Deus Ex: HR had good gameplay, but it's story was so good that I was willing to forgive it.

I hated the gameplay aspects of Portal 2, and as a result I rarely buy games for full price.

I love Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, but I think Journey is pretentious and boring (kudos to the developers for their work though).

I like League of Legends mostly cause of the character artwork.

I don't think the lore for Starcraft II is that bad, it's poorly written in some areas (Diablo III lore is straight up bad though)

I predicted that Mass Effect 3 would have a lackluster ending (when the trilogy was first announced), but I never said anything because I wanted to be wrong.

I hate the culture surrounding competitive gaming and MMOs but I enjoy the mechanics and technical aspects of them.

But he actually only killed very few people. Nibelheim got destroyed because when super-soldiers with magic powers have psychotic breaks shit gets real, but he only actually killed the towns people that attacked him/got in his way. He could've outright hunted down and slain that entire undefended little town but didn't.
Is this another retcon or something? Because in the original game Sephiroth started the fire and murdered those villagers and personally killed Tifa's father.

ah fuck the compilation, it added nothing to FFVII.

Gentleman I am here to stand with you in defence of the majesty of FF 12 as one of the best titles in that franchise. It was almost definately a far better direction for the series than the one it now finds itself on.
I keep meaning to give 12 another go. It could be said that among the people I talk to about games this is a secret, but 12 is the only FF game I've started but couldn't finish. I just didn't care and I honestly couldn't name a character outside of Balthier and... Vance?

BUT, your point about 'now finds itself on'... It's a funny phenomenon that each new FF makes all the old ones seem better. I thought 10 was a load of crap, but went back after being gutted by 13 and rinsed it. Might give 12 another run next time I reach a dry spell.

What are your thoughts about FF now basically playing like KH?

I can remember all of them but Balthier and Captain Basch fon Ronsenburg of Dalmasca stand out. The appeal to me is the sprawling lore behind the game and the vast complex world it has, it's full of secrets and hundreds of hours of side-quests. The bestiary alone is one of the best I've ever read, far better than the crap you get in 13 or whatever BioWare vomits up.

I also enjoyed the relatively grown up story and it's big meta-politcal stuff. Even if it was basically steampunk star wars with magic.

12 felt like the right way to make a more western FF to me and it did so much cool stuff, most of the disdain it gets is for not being like old FF games.

I enjoy 10 a lot but it was my first, I enjoy it's story and it's damn fine battle and levelling systems.

My thoughts on that are that it looks like it plays specifically like KH2 and thats a bad thing, because it means the game will boil down to: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ... T XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX T, -cure shortcut-. I am extremely disasppointed by that direction as I was hoping for them to take the hint and go back to a more complex battle system. But no, japan laps up garbage and Squeenix gives no fuck about anyone else evidently.

I disliked SR:TT but i'm looking forward to SR4.
One of my favourite games is the Barnyard movie tie-in.
I got bored with HL2 after 2 hours.
I had to put DA:O on casual difficulty.

Let's see...

-Never played Shadow of the Colossus, but can appreciate it.

-CoD stopped being good after MW2.

-I stopped caring about Half Life 3 years ago. TF2 is one of the worst shooters I've ever seen (Team Fortress Classic was better!)

-Dead Space 3 was my favorite of the series. Specifically for the coop.

-Twilight Princess was better than OoT.

-Cloud didn't come across as emo to me in FF7. Yea he had issues later on, but you would too in his situation. Hell at the start of the game he was kind of an asshole, remember when he practically threatened to beat small children in that tutorial area outside of the bar in sector 7? Yea, no one else does apparently...

-PC gamers are not better by default when it comes to FPS's. Yea you have better precision than a controller at extreme distances... but when you're within a certain range your precision means next to nothing compared to how important your reaction time is. I don't need to aim at the enemies' eye brows when he takes up 60% of my screen, I just need to press the button before you do (and hope the lag gods are on my side.)

-Speaking of lag... I used to play online RTS's on a 56k connection. Although the phone lines in my house are so old that it actually could only handle 50% of 56k. That's right, I lagged players to the point where they quit out and I got the win.

I didn't enjoy the original Deus Ex. I loved Human Revolution though so I downloaded the original off PSN when I saw it on there. Just couldn't get into it. The gameplay aged so poorly with its clunky controls and tedious inventory management. I did like the premise of the game but just couldn't get into it all.

- Despite owning at least $200 worth of RTS games and trying really hard to like them, I can't help but hate the genre, even though I love TBS and AOE2 was my favorite game when it first came out.

- I really dislike GTA games and feel that without the glitches GTA-IV would be one of the most boring games I've ever played.

- I have never played any Elder Scrolls games.

- Minecraft gets really, really, really boring really, really, really fast.

- Half Life feels like the most unoriginal game I've ever played, even though it invented most everything in it that feels stale. I just feel that since it's time there have been other games that have done every single thing in it better. (Thats not to say I dislike Half Life, it's still fun and all.)

- I found Super Mario 3 really really hard.

- I actually think that Infestation: Survivor Stories (previously known as WarZ) looks really pretty. Thats only because of an infaturation with poor textures born from Microsoft Flight Simulators and I fully recognize that those textures look like steaming piles of shit to everyone else, but I kinda like 'em. (The rest of the WarZ is still horrible though...)

- Despite the fact that its now becoming popular to say that you didn't really enjoy Bioshock Infinite all that much because of the limitations it faced following the Bioshock formula and the general non interactivity of the world, I still loved the game and still think it's amazing.

- For the longest time I though Treyarch was the name of a dude.

- I cannot do a single bad thing in any video game I play, I just end up feeling too guilty. This makes it almost impossible for me to finish any game that gives you an option to kill or spare someone, because I have to spare everyone or I'll restart. (I make an exception for genuinely bad people. Them I'll kill with no remorse.)

He did that, but that's a relative handful of people compared to what he's capable of given his status as full on unstoppable war monster. Compare him to Kefka, he's a pussycat. But over the course of the actual game, you're chasing Jenova in Sephiroths clothes, not Sephiroth himself. He's actually kind of tertiary, that's the twist. It's just his influence over events runs deep. The whole story has undertones of reality vs mental state.
Oh ok, I see what you're saying now, that he's a villain but not really a supervillain on the tier of Kefka. You're right, it's more about what Sephiroth means to Cloud emotionally rather than his role in the world. Sephiroth is more or less the pawn of Jenova.

And I agree, he's pussycat compared to Kefka. I hope I didn't come off as too scathing earlier

As an aside: do you think modern final fantasy titles lack the undertones and literary prowess of the older ones?

Dead Rising 1 is the best Dead Rising.

Dead Space 1 is the best Dead Space.

Gears of War 1 is the best Gears of War.

I couldn't enjoy the GTA IV expansions after realising how slow everything was.

I loved the Tomb Raider reboot.

The Assassin's Creed series has turned into a pile of wank.

I despise the Fable series.

I thought Saints Row 3 felt much tamer than the rest.

I prefer pixelated/older games to newer ones like Gunpoint/System Shock 2 etc.

That I still love tf2 on some level, some shitty level I want gone.

I Roleplay my own little stories when playing through a fighting game in arcade mode or what ever.

Call of Duty is fun, having recently played it at a friends in a long time since having played it.

Resident Evil 5 best coop game.

Can't play horror games. I might buy one but it never gets played...

I played a half hour of half life ( 2 i think?) Before i got motion sickness to bad i chucked the game back into the closet.

Ive never gotten past dead mans drop in bioshock 2 and i never will because i not only raged quited I sold the game to buy lollipop chain saw

The first and only time i played teams fortress 2 i had no idea what was going on and my xbox controller wasn't responding and i accidentally shot and killed what I thought was a team member but turned out to be a spy but everyone on my team thought i did it on purpose.

I'd rather play KOTOR 2 than Dishonored.

I kid, I kid. I mainly game on a PC, but would like a PS4 in this coming generation.

I really liked Haunting Ground. I found the characters in Dragon Age II to be more interesting than those of DA: O (and while we're at it, I didn't really like Leliana). I think Final Fantasy VII is downright awful (but I somehow enjoyed Advent Children). I dislike Chie in Persona 4, and I never date Yukari in Persona 3 (I find her to be unbearably obnoxious). And as much as I enjoy watching someone play Wii/Wii U titles, I find playing them to be terribly boring. Last, but not least, I wish they'd just shaft Final Fantasy XV already in favor of Kingdom Hearts 3, even though I know they won't (and I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy game since X/X-2).
