Escapists, what are your thoughts on people that drive their kids from house to house?

If this is a repeat thread, I do so apologize ^_^

Anyway, I find it pretty funny that parents actually drive their kids from house to house while trick-or-treating, idling the car and getting out with them to go to the house before getting back in and driving a few yards to the next one.
They're those people that make me as an American go "Oh, come on. Don't support the stereotype v_v"
My brother and I used to walk a fair distance to different suburbs with my dad, and when we got older, alone, walking at least a few miles that night. I suppose it's alright if you live in a rural area and still want to do it with your kids or they have some sort of physical disability, but I live in a big, easily traversable network of suburbs in the middle of a city and the kids that get carted from house to house look far too hyper to need to be diven.
I give the people that drive their cars around the crappy candy, saving the Snickers, Twix, etc. for those that hoof it ;)
I'm not talking about parents escorting their children here, I'm totally alright with that, but it seems really lazy to drive from house to house.

What are your opinions on this, and do you have people that do it in your community, or am I in the minority here?

that seems very stupid. Walk you bastards! although if more people drove, maybe we'd get a few more visitors. Ah well, all the more candy for me...

Whichever you look at it it's a bad thing. On the one hand, they're driving around near their own home, which is just lazy. On the other, if they're trick or treating far enough away from their home to warrant a car then they're greedy sods!

I agree with you. Part of it is that people are worried that their little kids will get raped or fed razor blades, so they go with their kids. Part of it is that fat kids don't want to walk. And part of it is that parents want to know where their kids are.

....what's the problem with that?

Seriously, I don't get why you guys care about how parents take their kids trick-or-treating.

Haha, I wouldn't give sweets to people that have arrived by car. The least they can do is walk for their free candy. Thankfully I live in a cul-de-sac, which means hardly anyone comes here. Huzzah. Me - 1, Halloween - 0!

I didn't know people did this. Depending on the hood I guess its okay, but overprotective much? Or the parents want a cut of the earnings.

Fuck trick or treating, I've seen kids get driven around for their paper-round EVERY TIME they do it.

And the best bit is they actually get back in the car before inching forward to the next house.

There's nothing I enjoyed more as a child than skipping from house to house and eventually forcing my parents to carry my all-too-heavy bucket of diabeetus. Driving from house to house just kills the fun of it.

Trick or treating is stupid in my opinion.
Seconded. I really don't get the attraction.
Congratulations, you don't see the attraction of a holiday aimed at children.

What shall be your next amazing feat? Not understanding why babies just don't tell you why they cry?

I dislike it.
But, then again, I'd rather go buy a bag of candy for $2 then spend hours collecting it.
