Escapists, what are your thoughts on people that drive their kids from house to house?

Back when I did trick or treating my parents drove me around, so did a lot of other parents they knew.

It's largely just a conveinience thing, it is easier to drive a ten mile circuit than it is to walk it and when it's cold, wet and windy outside I don't want to be walking around with nothing but tea-stained bandages to keep my arse warm.

Excuse me for putting practicality above everything else.

Seriously, I don't get why you guys care about how parents take their kids trick-or-treating.
Its not that. Its the driving from house to house. You can walk the extra 20 feet between houses, and if not, then you are too fat to be eating all that sugar and fat.

That's what my parents do. I live in the middle of nowhere and to get to the neighborhood area, we have to drive.

Those fat people should walk a bit more. If they eat many more treats I should think they'd have trouble fitting in the damn car.

Dude, I live in Canada. If people are pansy enough to think they need a car to go trick-or-treating, then they might as well stay home.
We also had snow last year, and that didn't stop many people from coming out.
Mind you, I also wasn't home, so I didn't get to see the amount of people getting driven, though I doubt it added much of an increase to that, either.
Oh man, I remember having to build my Halloween costumes to fit around a snow suit. Parents would take their kids trick-or-treating on sleds...it was the most stereotypically Canadian thing.
Well, we never had enough snow to use the sled on Halloween... I live in a city, so it wasn't cold enough, so the pavement made the snow on the streets melt!
But yes, I remember, way back when, when my mother would go around saying "Are you sure that's enough layers? Maybe you should add a jacket?" And I would constantly blow her off... And then regret it when I came home with numb fingers.

That's exactly what I was talking about. I don't get why you guys care if parents take their kids trick-or-treating by driving them. A good number of parents do that in my area. And for the record, it's not because they or their kids are fat.

then why cant they walk 20 feet?
If I knew why they drove their kids, I would tell you. But I don't. They probably have a legitimate reason for doing so.

But it's always easier to just assume stuff about people.

It makes sense in some cases, like when I was young my grandmother drove me around to trick or treat. But it still takes the fun out of trick or treating and should only be done if its absolutely necassary.

It seems like just a waste of gas. Can you seriously not bear to walk a little just so you can get candy and stuff your face? At least when you walk to houses you get a LITTLE exercise especially considering you're going home just to eat a bunch of candy.

Halloween is free fucking candy. I don't see how people don't "get the attraction", unless you're over 14, then you probably aren't supposed to get it. Also, dressing up as something outrageous is awesome, unless you are a poor sport and can't find fun in it. I took my kids out trick or treating today, and it was great. Maybe when some of you people have kids you can settle into a better attitude of tradition and building memories, I don't know.

Also, halloween parties are awesome, and some of the things I see these girls wearing are nothing short of spectacular.

I HATE those people. It shows that their parents are over protective since they have to be in the safty of the car AT ALL TIMES when they arent at a house. Its fine if they park at the end of the street, tick or treak all the houses, thats fine since some live a far way away from the center of town near me.

Me and my friend went around on our bikes, jeez we where sweating like a fuking dog. You could say i was dressed as a terrorist, i was wearing a sweatshirt, balacava (with only slits for eyes, no mouth making it even hotter), some awsome shades, a hat and a hood. We went about 10 miles on our bikes stopping and starting, my undershirt was drenched in sweat. Thats how Halloween should be, people walking or biking everywhere.

About 20 people said "Oh here comes the mob, better give em candy". PS he was also dressed like me.

Acually here in America the kids have become lazy enough to barely ever say Trick or Treat, its pretty sad. I'm 14 and I still say it, plus I acually say thank you. This brought many strange faces since I looked like a terrorist and you couldnt see anything on my body except my hands.

Oh god, I know what you mean. Half the kids only said thank you when their parents told them to, and only a few said "trick-or-treat," most just held out their bags for candy with expectant faces. =/

..anyone else see the irony in this?

That is if you're saying what I think you're saying o_O

OT: Yeah, it's pretty stupid, they REALLY feed the stereotype there >.>

When I trick or treated though I rarely said 'trick or treat', but I always said thank you,

I do not understand the irony in my post, please explain more. It was not my intention, although not truly ironic would ever be intended.

People actually go trick or treating? Oh that's right I forgot a lot of people on this forum are American, where they actually do that stuff. No-one did it where I live I can assure you of that.

I can think of a few reasons:

1. The car is being used to store the incredible bounty of "treats" that the kids will receive
2. The car is being used to store the weapons for the "tricks"
3. The parents are worried that some crazy people might turn up with guns or something and say "git off ma property" (it is America after all) and want to be able to make a quick escape if needed

However why you would bring parents at all, I don't get that bit. Isn't trick-or-treating supposed to be naughty, and all about blackmail, harrassment, vandalism and wondering if the next house will contain a rabid, shambling serial killer? Talk about taking the thrill out of the equation.

This is just another example of these parents turning their kids into pansies unfit for the real world. As soon as they move out (if they move out) the world will, LITERALLY, chew them up, spit them out, strangle them, then dispose of the corpse in the nearest Taco Bell.

Hehe, maybe I'm perverted, but it sounded like you mean that the women you were talking about (in amazing clothes) were college/high school girls in exposing outfits, yet you're a father..

..I'm sorry.

Forgive meh.
