The code has nothing to do with the campaign. Holy crap people are stupid...The code only affects multi player. The EA account is necessary on ALL EA games to play them. Its also free whether or not you payed EA for the game.
I support this developer EA because they found a way to make money off of something, that they previously were not making money off of. Used game sales. Its a pain in the ass i have to pay an extra 10 bucks to get my full game, but im only giving EA 10 bucks for their ENTIRE game.
