Ah so jokes about a subcultures choice of clothing are okay now?

Let's say it was a joke about turban's or Kippahs(you know, those Jewish hats) would that be okay with you
This... this is what baffles me about those fedora-wearing folks. They claim to be atheist, yet they brag about being 'euphoric'(whatever that is supposed to mean in this case) and have a dress code, that makes them look more like a some sort of cult. Just something that kinda amuses me...

Forgive me for my ignorance. But when did someone's choice of silly hat become associated with asshole atheists?
It has already been explained multiple times in this thread alone, it started with the r/atheism board on reddit. A number of the users decided one day that wearing fedoras would be the Reddit atheist calling card, at one point it became somewhat popular to post pictures of yourself wearing said fedoras on the board, usually with the person trying to strike a badass or broody pose. The picture posted earlier of that guy in the Sonic the Hedgehog t-shirt attached the text about atheism making him euphoric basically became the poster child for the trend and its more socially awkward members that tended to be condescending assholes to anyone who even hinted at being religious.

Eventually 4chan and other sites got a hold of the euphoria picture and turned it into a meme, from there the greater internet geek community started associating the fedora with this particular group of people. So yeah, basically a bunch of asshole atheists on Reddit tried to make the fedora their symbol of sophistication, and the rest of Reddit and 4chan tore them apart for it while spreading their pictures across the internet. It's hard to tell which pictures are people doing it ironically and which are actual internet atheists trying to look cool, but the damage has been done.

It is the eternal dilemma of atheism, even stating you believe nothing means you belief in something. Therefore a true atheist will say it hasn't been proven to him, but that makes him an agnostic.

As to the "dress code" it's more that several people have the same idea on how to oppose the majority by wearing something different (the irony is it ends up being the same as the other "nonconformists", see also <a href=http://minkeerminisplus.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/hipsters.jpg>Hipsters)
Yep, wearing a fedora sure does express your opposition to the majority. It doesn't at all come across as though you wish you were as cool as Tom Waits. I can sympathize with that, I wish I was as cool as Tom Waits. But just call it what it is. Don't pretend the fedora is somehow a "fuck you" to the system.

On topic I give the guy a week before he is caught because he brags about it on the internet.
Unless he's an actual idiot, why would he brag? The internet is doing it for him.

Well ... I feel like a sheep that just joined the wolf family's dinner party.
Or did I join the apocalypse of the "Euphoric Atheists"?
Cause it feels like everyone be joking about them up in here.

Oh well. *Shrug*

To me, basically stealing from a Church is pretty fucking low.
I could understand if it was the Westboro Baptist Church, those guys are asshole ... they pretty much their own hateful religion. But from a normal Church, that is just bad.

Well stealing in general is bad of course.

Now the true question is ... who is tipping their fedora in here?
I already checked my closet ... no fedoras in there.

No fear... this is a rare thread on the Escapist where everyone's viciously attacking the church-thief.

"Euphoria" is a bizarre (and hilarious) attack on extreme atheists, born from Reddit's /r/atheism board. All you need to know is that the internet now has a hate-on for extreme atheists (somehow), that they're called "Euphoric", and the stereotypical euphoric atheist is fat, misogynistic, constantly in the friendzone and wears a leather jacket and fedora.

Ah good, although I feel like I should have known better since I know many people on this thread.
And they would be better then what my original thoughts said.
Fear is such a bastard at times.

But I had never heard of this before, well good to know. Good to know the difference too. Now I can join in the fun!
The Fedora never deserved this hate!
That is why we must do this!

The people saying all Trilbies are Fedoras are being silly pedants, that's like saying "all shorts are pants, so stop talking about them like they're different!" technically, yes you're right, but you're just being an arse.

The reverse is also true, trying to point out how they aren't wearing "real" fedoras and that they are actually trilbys (a type of fedora) is pretty much equally pedantic.

Also, your pants example is terrible, pants are an extremely broad category of clothing that includes pretty much everything you wear on your legs except skirts and dresses, fedoras are a specific type of hat that has a much narrower range of qualification. Your example would be closer to people saying that a trilby is a type of hat, since almost anything you wear on your head is a type of hat.

I'd say someone calling shorts pants would be pretty daft and correct them.

This whole thread is too damn Euphoric! If this keeps up, all my hats are gonna turn into trilbies and my shirts will have sonic on them!

I wonder how they would react if we stole their bibles (The God Delusion by the prophet Richard Dawkins)
Well, considering it's theft, I'll let you guess.

Is this really where we are as a culture? We believe a belief is deluded, so we steal and cause harm because we're "right," and that somehow justifies us. Fuck. THIS is why war exists.

Well that's what I get from reading the first page and thinking I knew the temperature of the water. All I saw there was applause for the thief.

This goes back to the whole broad category thing, there are hundreds of different types of pants, your example only works if people were complaining that trilbys were a type of hat. A fedora is a specific type of hat, and a trilby is just the name for a style of that specific type of hat, there are maybe 5 or six different types of fedoras out there, making the comparison to an entire category of clothing like pants doesn't work on even a basic level.

Your example would be closer to someone complaining that they are lumping slim cut jeans in with all other types of jeans, and even that example is flimsy, because there are far more types of jeans out there than there are styles of fedoras.

Damn, this is the most euphoric dude ever. He must be so brave standing up to the oppressive Christian establishment by stealing their charity funds.

Seriously, fuck this guy
Sometimes, the sheer number of people who completely miss the joke is funnier than the joke itself.

Except not this time, because that is quite literally the best gif I have ever seen.

"Pfft, look at that guy, wearing pants."

"He's NOT wearing pants, he's wearing shorts!"

"...Pfft, look at that guy, wearing shorts."

^this is why trilbies and fedoras may as well be the same in the context of this thread.

Pedantics are annoying when they aren't the point.

OT: this is hilarious, I'm probably going to be laughing about this for the rest of the day, I love making fun of the fedora euphoric stereotype.

Im not going to lie, I knew nothing about the connection between atheists, fedoras, and "euphoric." When I first came in here it seemed like, from an outside perspective, that the churches were being made fun of. Now that I understand the connection I get the joke and find this thread quite entertaining.

Bah! These 'Euphoric Atheists' giving a bad name to atheists, fedoras and um... euphoria?

I think we are all to blame for not stamping such colossal arseholes when they first emerged from their hatred-filled, malevolent, narcissistic cesspits of narrow minded mysogeny and social and cultural retardation.

Maybe that was too harsh, but this person certainly is a complete and utter Wankersaurus Rex. I'm an atheist, and so what, does that mean I think the Church shouldn't be able to collect charity money? Does it bollocks. Of course they should, charity is charity. Besides, for the most part, religion creates ways of life based around compassion and kindness, with life teachings that can and really should be followed by everyone, regardless of belief.
