We aren't looking down on these people for their clothing style, its their smug attitude that is generally the point of contention.
But here's the thing that is annoying me: do we actually know this guy's personality? Or what he's like? Has he been caught, or has the internet learned who he is? If so, please tell me. Otherwise, all these amazingly funny jokes have been conjured from a simple image without any actual knowledge. It proves to me that anyone wearing this kind of hat without a suit brings forth mockery first and foremost. If we knew this guy was a smug asshole, then I wouldn't even be bringing this all up. But we don't.
We know he is an asshole for stealing, sure, but I see very few people riding on his case for that. It's all about the hat, and we do not know if he is this so called "euphoric" guy or not. Maybe he is, but I just feel very uncomfortable in judging a persons character based on clothing alone.
Except that's not what's happening at all. The guy's blurry picture bore some resemblance to the the euphoria guy so the OP made a joke about him wearing a Sonic the Hedgehog shirt, some people posted pictures of the euphoria guy and were joking about the fact that a guy in a leather jacket and a fedora is stealing from a church, he might have been an atheist or not, people were just making jokes that this guy fit the stereotype pretty exactly at first glance, his asshole actions of stealing from a church making him a much more acceptable target, whether he's smug or not is kind of irrelevant to the fact that he's being mocked for dressing like a smug stereotype while robbing a church. If he wasn't a criminal, and people were just mocking the fedora, you might have a point, but it sounds more like you are just reading too much into people's comments.
By as early as the 4th post, the rest of the thread has derailed into people asking what's up with the fedora hate, and others explaining where the meme came from, with most people just talking about how it came about. There's also a sub-current of people who completely misread the comments and are assuming that commenters in here are siding with the thief, probably misreading the euphoric line in the title as the OP's feelings on the matter rather than it being a reference to the meme.
Beyond that, nobody really cares that much about the fedora, they are just enjoying the weirdness of a guy who looks like the euphoria guy robbing a church, the people coming in asking about "what's with all the fedora hate" are the ones that derailed the conversation to talking about people wearing fedoras wrong or their personal thoughts on a type of hat.
There's been more people in this thread arguing about whether trilbys are a type of fedora, than there have been people actually asserting that this guy is a genuine euphoric atheist stereotype, or just mocking him for wearing a fedora and nothing else (most people seem to be focusing on the thief part). I think you are seeing something that just isn't there.
