SEELE throws Eva 01 into space, with a tang'd Shinji and Rei still inside
They stay up there for 14 years
Misato goes rogue, found her own organization to fix the world and recruits Asuka, Mari, and Touji's younger sister, Asuka and Mari not aging because LCL exposure halts the aging process
Mari is Shinji and Asuka's daughter from the future
They save Unit 01 from space, but Shinji and Rei decide to go back to NERV where Gendou is still in charge, also he has Kaworu.
Kaworu hits on Shinji while Rei disappears
Kaworu thinks he found out a way to fix the world with magic spears and Lillith, he and Shinji team up and even combine their Evas
Misato's organization knows better and sends forth Asuka to stop them
Kaworu and Shinji almost kill Asuka only to discover that SEELE tricked Kaworu and they really just started Instrumentality
Kaworu explodes himself to stop it, making Shinji all sad and reducing everything to a red wasteland
Asuka yanks Shinji out of his entry plug and holds his hand as they walk through the desert.
Also Rei is also in the desert with them somehow.

the shit they pull in this third movie, like, at first I thought it was like a prank, a troll, but ive seen the pics from the artbook, and its real.

Lets just say "yes" and leave it at that. But that's not even the big shit they do in this movie, that's like minor shit.

All I will say is that Eva 3 is so balls to the wall different I swear to god it feels like some different series entirely.

The level of sheer troll in Eva 3 makes the ending of Panty and Stocking look un-trollish. The universe sized mech at the end of Gurren Lagann doesn't even compare.

When I saw the spoilers I thought it was a hoax, like, I called BS left and right, but dear god, its true.

Huh, that.. That was strange. Ive watched the anime and read the manga (Well as far as the manga goes anyway) of Evangelion. Its wierd shit yeah, but jesus that sounds like it could be a completely different series altogether.

Gurren-Hen and Lagann-Hen were remakes of the Gurren Lagann series, this just seems outright different

Eva 3 also apparently took some inspiration from Nadia, and Space Battleship Yamato. You'll know what I mean when you see Wunder.

I am still in shock from how this movie turned out.
Usually I would be disappointed, but what the hell, this is Eva.
After the 2nd new movie which was so optimistic, it had to go evil like this.
I just think, i am sooo lucky to have been able to experience the Salior Moon, Evangelion, Madoka Magica, Suzumiya Haruhi trends.

Also, I am happy to know that Misato and Ritsuko are still older than me.
I hate it when you grow old and your favourite characters become younger than you.

It says they were Tang'd, so they were neither alive or dead, just like how humanity died in EoE

Well since I can answer your question with info from Eva 2 I wont put this is spoilers. Shinji and Rei were all spirit mode at the end of Eva 2, that's how they survived.

And anyone waiting for some Mari character development...... you will have to wait longer from what I've heard..... besides a ball bustingly odd twist, the movie is mostly Shinji, Kaworu, and Rei.

Well, it's about time some weirdness came peaking around the corner for these movies. Things have been way too mellow and not-fucked up.

And seeing as I'm a big fan of Nadia, I can't wait to see what inspiration it took from it.

Well, I will say it does go beyond the whole "Shinji is a trace of Nadia but white, and a guy."

Its not super huge, or it may be depending on how you look at it, but its there.
