Shinx, the Flash Pokemon, is my favorite.
It's cute, it's strong-ish, and it was the only electric type I had except Pachirisu, who was as useful as a chocolate kettle.
It evolved into Luxio, another cool pokemon, more badass than cute, but Intimidate was useful and it's offense was good.
Later, it evolved into Luxray.
My first thought: Oh cool! Look at how awesome it is!
My second thought: Jesus, look at it's eyes!
It's eyes are red and bloodshot. According to my trusty 'dex, this is because it can see through walls.
I'm like, if superman's eyes were that red, Lane would pepper spray him so fast his head would spin.

Cute, cool, green dragon w/ tusks -> bigger, horrendously ugly green dragon w/ tusks -> great big golden brown thing. WTF? This is one time I'll be mashing B like nuts...
You sir made me laugh hard and made my day with just that statement :) I literally loved your response man. And yes I did, literally did.. and it was very weird too!

When I played Pokemon Sapphire, I had a Silcoon that I wanted to become Beautifly which I wanted to try out since back then I only used Butterfree and leveled it to 100. When I ranked it enough by having it fight in team battles (spite it being weak), it was finally evolving. As soon as it turned..

I was like "WUT?? No, this can't be right! It was the white one that turns into a butterfly rather then purple, right??" ..Sticken Wurmple fails in Life lol (no offense). Seriously, I was pretty upset so I restarted the game and went with my original Pokemon choice lol.
I really hated that, I really wanted beautifly but no matter what I would end up with that evolution

The second evolution of starter pokemon usually aren't that visually appealing, but the third evolution usually makes up for it. Actually, that's mostly true for not just the starters, but for most pokemon with two evolutions. For some reason, the second form just doesn't usually look that good.

Other than that I prefer Cubone to Marowak because they don't really look that different, but Cubone definitely looks cooler.
