Just played a gig at the top underground venue in the city, lot of mates and family there, couldn't here myself for shit for 15 minutes and it was probaly the worst gig I'll ever play. Really fucked off.

So, you guys tell me about how you have sucked ass and it might draw me away from eating rat poison.
Oh yes.

Fucking yes.

I've been playing out for a few years, it sucks when it happens, just learn from it, be better prepared next time.

One time a few years ago I went out and there was no amp. I had to sit through the song doing nothing ... you can imagine how embarrassing that was.

Summer this year I was playing Little Sister by QotSA and my lead came out just before the solo ... what a clusterfuck that became...

Almost all the other shows I've done have gone well, though. You just need to learn from the mistakes of when you suck and take each show on it's own. Just cause you suck once doesn't mean you will again, in fact it's the opposite (and also peoples expectations will be lower the second time giving you the advantage ... take that as you will as it's neither good or bad, I guess)

Yep, first "gig" (just two songs actually) sucked. Made hell of alot mistakes and I had a improv guitar solo coming, which I nailed on practise but live... nope, didn't fly.

You'll survive, next time you know what it's gonna be like and you can prepare.

If it was an improv solo, shouldn't you be doing it without practice?

I've had many many many shitty gigs. I've learned to just pretty much ignore your mistakes and have fun rather than putting a ton of pressure on yourself and you will end up doing a lot better, even if you do mess up people will notice it less if you don't acknowledge it.

Yeah back in Summer me and my old band were scheduled to play at a huge beach-party. We got there, and the guy that had promised us we would have a generator ready wasn't there, and neither was the generator. And then some fucker broke into the van we were using, and stole my buddies guitar while we were trying to find the generator. By the time we got the generator, got set-up, and got a replacement guitar, we were all pissed and tired. But it was okay, because the audience was really drunk, so they thought we kicked ass. And it wasn't a total loss, because we got as much free booze as we wanted for playing. But still, it was our last show and I wished it would have been better.
But I know you feel, you wanted to do a good job for your friends and stuff. But don't worry, people will forget, and you'll kick ass your next gig.

Improvising is something you have to practise as well, especially in a band, jamming to a backing track is totally different to jamming with a band in my experience. It wasn't so much practising now that I think of it, more like a rehearsel.

These are all encouraging stories guys, keep 'em coming. :D

Thing is, I don't tend to play shit, I just couldn't hear my guitar what so ever, in rehersal it's always fine, but that gig my guitar decided to do one and the sound engineer had something against me.

Oh, practicing improvisation, not practicing that specific solo. Okay, that makes sense.

First gigs always suck. A golden rule.
Thanks for that. Because I have my first gig ever in 2 days as part of my college course, and our singer is shite.
Well, you can only get better. A first gig is a good indication of what you need to work on, and it's usually a lot. Unless you have a particularly good band.
Luckily most of us will be switching around with other bands afterwards, so I can probably work with people who are actually decent.

Let me translate this for people who have english as their first language:

My band and I were allowed to play our music at a club. The music was so loud that I could not hear how badly it was played. I made a jackass out of myself in front of my friends and family, and now I'm angry.

Somebody make me feel less pathetic about myself by telling me a story about your own failures.

That pretty much wraps it up. Oh, the topic name is entirely unappropriate. An image of taking a deuce in public pops into my head when I see it. My guess is that this was not your first gig. Everyone has off days. You practice so this doesn't happen every time. Even bands that have tons of money and albums show up to concerts and suck ass. Big deal if your friends and family hear you on an off day, they also have heard you when you were on your game.

For my practical exam for GCSE music, I got paired with a guy who was crap at drums. Anyway, towards the end of the song, he lost his grip on his drumsticks and one of them cracked me at the back of the head. I ended up with concussion, and had to go to hospital, but I got an A* for that exam, so I guess it worked out in the end.

Screwed up the solo for our first song that we played with an eletric instrument. And drums.

The title made me think "Have you ever been shit on in public?"
