Oh, you think that's bad? How about when Tali died on my third playthrough of Mass Effect 2. She was the only character my super-renegade Shepard ever cared about. It was made so much worse by the fact that I had kept every character alive through the previous playthrough, meaning it was all my fault for trying to bump off Morinth by giving her an unsuitable job.

There's also a similar effect when you read through the entire back-log of a story driven webcomic. You eventually make it to the end, and you realise you're going to have to wait for new updates like all the other schmucks to find out what will happen next.

Same here. Tali was the only decent female character. I was a bit put out when Tali, Garrus and Legion died on my second playthrough. -_-

Oh, I hate finishing a good book series... it was a bit of a blow when I finished A Series of Unfortunate Events, I got really attached to the characters.

Also, welcome to The Escapist!

It happens all the time with me in books too. Especially in George Martins Ice and Fire series and certain characters in the Shannara series.
Also, welcome to the escapist

I know I tend to bring this game up a lot, but I was fighting back tears at the end of Planescape: Torment. After saying goodbye to Annah, Fall-from-Grace, Dak'kon, Morte, Nordom, even Vhailor seems to part on understanding terms (and I played almost diametrically opposed to his personality) seeing The Nameless One look out over the "landscape", steel himself, and pick up that brutal mace only to march out to meet his fate. Yeah... that one had me.

Happens to me with nearly every game where my character becomes unplayable when the game is done. Didnt happen with oblivion though, but then again... I never really attached much personality to my characters there.
I still feel abit bad when playing WoW, just looking at my rogue on the top of my character list.. all the memories, ahhhh *cries*

Red Dead Redemption

John Marston, grew really attached to him during the game, and the ending kinda killed it for me
Ya know I will ditto that completely. I have no real arguments with the story or anything else but I just liked the character. Plus I hate Jack's beard.

The game character I probably missed the most after the game was over would have to be Solid Snake. That fight on top of that sub gave me chills plus I shed one tear of manliness. But really for being a longtime MGS fan, 4 may have dropped the ball on the story a bit (or a lot) but it just did an awesome job of wrapping up everything with the characters.

Yes, this happens to me a lot. I know that in Awakening, I missed my team from DAO. Of course, playing the game again is like going home and visiting old friends again.

Knights of the Old Republic did that to me hardcore.

I missed Jolee and HK-47 and Carth and Bastila and, and, and... Sigh. Well, everyone. It's like by the end of the game, all of the companions were this weird motley family I had grown so fond of. Ending that story was a bittersweet experience for me.

Dragon Age did that, too. My heart definitely tugged when everyone was saying their goodbyes and during the epilogue as well. I had learned everyone's stories by then with all of them at 100 approval, so I felt a solid, tangible connection between my elf and everyone else. Characters I wasn't fond of at first became favorites when I found out there stories and who they really were. I loved it.

Mass Effect was the exception to Bioware games making me feel a connection. I didn't feel like any of them were "family" or had bonded with each other the end of the story like in other Bioware games. They were just these people that followed me around unquestioningly and the only time they ever conversed with each other was through awkward and forced small talk in long elevator rides. Pretty disappointing experience for me. :/

Oh, and ending April Ryan's story in The Longest Journey was sweet and sad at the same time, too. I loved the conclusion, but I had grown so connected to her character that I hated to see her go. :(

Ironically to most people, it was Navi from OoT. I wasn't one to hate her.

Sort of... But not the main character, a supporting character. Both Gaz and Ghost, I was properly gutted when they died. I just loved them.

I didn't use spoilers, cos if you haven't played these games yet, chances are you won't ever.

I get like that with most games, movies and books. I get immersed easily so I get attched to most characters I encounter, and when they die or something happens to them I get kinda sad, but it depends on the charcter how sad I get.

It was kind of sad to see the Arbiter and the Elites leaving for their homeworld because it meant that my time basking in their awesomeness was over.

Also, and I know I've been mentioning this a lot lately, Ashley's near complete lack of involvement in Mass Effect 2 was quite distressing for me because she was my favourite female character in the first and easily the preferred LI. She gets reduced to a cameo appearance, an email and a scene with Shepard looking at her picture.
To be fair I felt a connection to all the cast in Mass Effect games.

Also, for record I've never lost a teammate in Mass Effect 2's final mission so I don't know other people's pain but I sympathise regardless.

Also, obviously Fallout 3. I really wish someone had given a heads up that:
"This is it, you can't keep playing the game after this."
Because that was such a nasty shock.

The only one I can think of is Dogmeat, but that doesn't really count because I'm on the PC and can make him essential. I would also miss my sexy sleepwear Amata slave, but again, console ;p

I actually grew really attached to some of the guys from Clive Barkers Jericho. Black, Cole, and Delgado were awesome.

Just thought of another one. The security bots from Bioshock 2. I liked those guys ;p

None of them were my character, but whatever

I'm thinking Fallout 3 right now... beat it yesterday and I was actually really sad. All the time I put into his character, getting together all of his stuff and organizing his house... I was nearly devastated by the time it was over. Especially since the ending comes out of no where and slaps you in the face.
