I really want to see Scott Pilgrim however most of my friends aren't geeks like me and none of them want to see it so it looks like I may have to go alone if I want to see it. So Escapists ever go see a movie alone? Is it sad or not? I mean you don't talk during the movie anyway right?

Yeah. But my film tastes differ from a lot of my friends. Not too many of them want to fork out the cash to go see several films at a random festival.

I might have to for the Riff Trax thing this week, none of my cool people friends want in.

I always go to the movies alone. Yeah, it's a little eerie, but hey... go watch the movie, and arrange a pickup at the exact time the movie ends.

Definitely not sad. If I didn't have anyone to go with on a particular movie I wanted to see I would have no problem going alone. I think I'd even like it.

Sad? Not at all. I do it all the time. It really depends on what you like out of a movie going experience though. I go to movies because I want to watch the movie, and that doesn't change if I'm with someone else or not. Some people do go to movies for a more social experience, however, and they would likely be missing something if they went alone.

Either way, if you're really concerned I would suggest just going to a matinee. Not only will it be cheaper but also probably less crowded so you won't as easily be reminded that you're "the only one there who isn't with someone."

Scott Pilgrim is a great movie and well worth seeing, so if you can't find anyone else to go with you, go see it alone anyway. :)

I would go, but I would probably get bored. One of the greatest parts about going to the movies for me is making fun of the movie we're watching. I remember one time the entire theatre was empty except five of my friends and myself. It was awesome.

I almost always go to the movies alone. I don't have to put up with people asking me "What just happened?" or "Could you give me a dolar so I can get some more soda?" or "C'mon, dude, I may have eaten my popcorn and said you were wasting money buying the bigger size, but can't you share?" (I may have been paraphrasing the last one, but that was the situation.)

Maybe it's because I had some bad experiences, but I only go to the movies with others if they're paying for my ticket. Plus, on time I went to a movie that was barely showing anymore, went in, and I was the only guy there. It was like having a private theater, and I made all the comments and noise I damn well felt like. After that, comparing it to the last time I went with others, I decided on my policy.

I have often gone to movies on my own if none of my friends want to see the movie or cannot afford to go. Especially if it's a film I really want to see right that instant, like Inception or District 9. I'll probably end up seeing Scott Pilgrim on my own.

And it's definitely not sad. Just because everyone else in the cinema has brought along a friend doesn't mean it's a rule and you have to bring someone else. Besides, you're practically on your own anyway during the movie because you're focused on watching it and not talking to anyone else.

I almost always go to movies alone, unless I'm re-watching a particularly awesome and/or nerdy movie that I demand my friends must see.

No. Because I have this thing. I go in saying I'm not buying overpriced popcorn. Then my date buys overpriced popcorn and gives it to me.

If I go alone I don't get popcorn... Also, the post movie chat is one of my favorite things about going to the movies.

It isn't sad though.

I have in that past I saw 9, Watchmen and Inglorious Bastards alone and enjoyed them
but I had more fun seeing Zombieland, Kick-ASS and Paranormal Activity with friends

I go to movies often. Like when I went to see Inception. I'm glad I was alone then, because I doubt anyone would have been willing to take the massive amounts of criticism I had for the movie if they'd just seen it.
