I only go to the movies alone because i don't usually have the option not to. =/

Having said that, it's not like it's a really social thing anyway; as long as someone else you know has seen the movie, there's going to be opportunities to talk about it later.

Other people tend to ruin my movie viewing experience by not shutting the hell up, so I tend to go to the movies alone when I can be bothered to do so at all.
Enough people there being annoying without me dragging more along with me.

All the bloody time. I pay for the big screen and the sound effects, not for bloody company.

It's fun to watch a bad B movie with a few friends at home to laugh at it, but most good movies require silence.

I really want to see Scott Pilgrim however most of my friends aren't geeks like me and none of them want to see it so it looks like I may have to go alone if I want to see it. So Escapists ever go see a movie alone? Is it sad or not? I mean you don't talk during the movie anyway right?
I went alone, and it was awesome. AWESOME. After a little while, it was like I was alone in my living room, and the movie just seemed funnier for it.

I've watched movies by myself (because people don't want to watch it or I don't want other people to know I watched it) and it's not sad.

I've never gone to a movie theater alone, however.

I haven't been to the movies with anyone since I was a child too young to be left alone in a movie theater. I really don't see much benefit in trying to bring others with you. However, I did try to get my little brother to go see Scott Pilgrim vs. The World with me, since he's so damn boring (does nothing but "hang out" with his friends and get high) and I thought I'd introduce him to something cool that he wouldn't usually care about.

I might have to for the Riff Trax thing this week, none of my cool people friends want in.
Cheers to loneliness.

I do, in some ways I prefer it, but I still like going with people on occasion.

if I had enough money where going to the movies wasn't a luxury and just a hobby, I COULD go myself, I saw 300 myself.

But usually, when I go, it's with a lot of other people and it's a big group thing

I've often been to movies alone.

Sometimes you really want to see something in the theatre, but you just can't find a time that suits everyone, you know?

I don't have a problem going to the movies alone...and sometimes I prefer to do so, because all of my friends love to talk about the movie as soon as we get out, and that's one thing I absolutely hate to do.

Its like eating in a restaurant alone. When you see guy eating by himself in a restaurant you automatically think: LONELY when in reality he prob just wanted to get a bite to eat or something. All depends on if you care what other people think.

Scott pilgrim =/= geek

Scott pilgrim looks like it was designed by hot topic, and fuck micheal cera movies and the people who go to them alone.
Woah, a little strong on the hate for someone who hasn't seen the film. I saw and loved the movie, and I absolutely hate hot topic, and all the scene kids that shop there. And this is a geek film by all means, it may be marketed as another Michael Cera romance thing, but it's mainly a kickass comic book come to life. If you even remotely like video games or Edgar Wright, I'd recommend seeing it.

As for the OP: Er, I personally dislike seeing films alone, feel lonely and awkward. If you don't feel that way, then go by yourself, or try and bring some girl along as a date, whatever floats your boat. Regardless, I'd say go see the film, it's pretty awesome.

I rarely go to the movies at all, but going alone is almost second nature anyways.
No one to interrupt you saying 'DID YOU SEE THAT' or try and explain what just happened five seconds ago as if you were a five year old.

Ha! I totally had to see Scott Pilgrim by myself the other day. Any one I knew who'd want to see it lives out of state. It's definitely worth seeing and I've never really gotten why movies are such social events for people. The only thing I can think of missing out on is talking with people about the film after you'd just watched it.

I would say rent it.

To me going to the movie theater is not about seeing the movie, but the experience with friends.

Why pay more money to sit in a loud theater with sticky floors and obnoxious people by yourself, when you could see it by yourself at home.
