For the longest time when I was a silly child, I was devoted to Classical music. Then my brother showed me Apocalyptica, and since, my music interest has been an explosion. I recently finished downloading a bunch of Scatman John. The other day I got about 3 hours of The Beatles.
Scatman John is stupendous.

I grew up listening to pop courtesy of my mum and classic rock and punk courtesy of my dad. At uni I moved more in the direction of modern rock, which makes up most of my CD and iTunes collection, but I'm very open-minded when it comes to music and will listen to most things.

Grew up listening to rap, but then when my brother let me listen to Tool i couldnt listen enough to it. Dropped rap and picked up rock and metal.

I was born in '86. Master of Puppets was released in '86. So, no. I've been a metalhead my whole life. (though I am more accepting of other music styles than most metalheads)

My friend's band. He's the Bassist. Look for the tall guy on the far left of the picture. I've never heard anything like them and It's just fantastic music. Otherwise I listen to a bit of everything. Some notable genres are Rock, Metal, Techno (And many subgenres), instrumental, Classical.

EDIT: Tell me what you think of Eleveneighty, I'd be interested. For me it's a pretty unique kind of music that has huge potential.
Yeah, it's pretty decent. not my favorite though.

I used to listen to rap, thinking I was cool for doing so, but then my dad gave a copy of Boston's first album and now all I ever listen to is classic rock.

i think when you stop listinin to a certian type of music because you want too either 'fit in' or 'piss off your parents' and reach a certian age to decide what you like because YOU like it we all change tastes.

i listend to metal when i was a teen because my father hated it mostly. but ive turned country now that im older. country and older rock like late 60s and 70s stuff.

I started off listening to what my Dad listened to; Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns 'n' Roses, Deep Purple etc.
It wasn't until I was 10 - when Papa Roach released 'Last Resort', and Limp Bizkit (I know...) released 'Rollin' - that my music taste started to develop on its own. From these it went onto bands like Linkin Park and Blink-182.
A friend then played me a song by Slipknot and I was instantly hooked. When I was about 14/15, I started making new friends with very different tastes in music; they introduced me to more heavier bands such as Protest The Hero, Bleeding Through, As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon... These bands later led onto even heavier bands like Beneath The Massacre and Cannibal Corpse (mainly through comparisons I'd heard.
I then got into punk music from my cousin; The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Dead Kennedys and Rancid (which in turn led me into Ska music, mainly Reel Big Fish).
But it all broadly comes under the Rock genre, so I haven't undergone a thorough 'conversion'. I've always been a metalhead; but I listen to other stuff and enjoy it too...

I was raised by two parents who loved classical. My dad has heaps and heaps of Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Copeland, Messiaen, Wagner, etc. I also played piano and viola in an orchestra. I certainly appreciate Classical music, but my huge change was when my parents bought the complete Miles Davis Quintet recordings.

I was transfixed, and I started listening to Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, and Keith Jarrett. They are all fantastic artists.

I also have ambient, indie, and a lot of rock in my collection. The only genre I don't really like is death metal.

<3 music forever.

I used to like metal, but one day I just sorta looked at it and thought, "the drumming is annoying, the guitaring is annoying, the people who are trying to look 'hard' just look constipated, the pseudo-Satanism thing just scares old people, and the whole fantasy-dragon-overlord thing is just hilarious."

I literally stopped listening to metal (expect old Megadeth) in one day.

I never converted to another style, I have always had a broad range of musicical genres. Example being my favourite band is "The Beatles" (own every album and quite a few bootlegs) and I play their songs with my band yet I have most of the Ministry albums and another dance company called "One Love". So yeah I don't have to convert or else all I'd be listening to would be modern "black culture" music or nothing.

Lets see now I started listening to rock, punk and 70's alternative and proggy stuff, from there into metal, ska, reggae,Northern Soul, Black metal. folk metal, folk, Jazz metal, Miles Davis and pretty much jazz fusion. So I have never converted and I can talk about most styles equaly passionately!

Yea when I was a young 'un I used to listen to obscene amounts of dance and pop music. Thankfully I saw the light when I was about 13 and progressed to more rock orientated bands. Linkin Park and Sum 41 at first, then heavier stuff like Slipknot and Korn.

my sight on rap and "top list pop" as i call it is thrown down a pit of burning zombies and ghouls , shun from me.I hate those 4-7th grade kids who think that rap and "top list pop" is the best :F Not that i hate them as person , but i would gladly strangle their music interest.
Because as i see it , they listen to its because its cool :p, and maybe some of them liked it(possibly not)(its just how i see it). Simply. All the other kids were listening to it when i was in the elementary school , while i was an addicted Floyd fan.
I will always listen to Floyd , period.

And if anyone see me listening to something else then rock and metal , please hit me with a bat.I wont sue you.

Oh, definitly. I've had to admit that several styles were much better than I gave them credit for, especially Country and Electronica. I'm a better person (well, more musically well-rounded anyway) today because of it, so don't hesitate to swallow your musical pride once in a while.

Used to like bad punk-pop, then I started listening to mostly middle road mainstream rock, now I've become a complete convert to Indie Rock and Indie Power Pop.
