One of the absolute great benefits of video games is that they can teach us something or make us realize something we never thought of before.
One of the most significant philosophies I've learned from a video game is from Fable. One of the Demon Doors demands you to become 100% obese in order to open it. And once you do, he says:
"...stop being a slave to public perception and treat yourself"
This is an absolute true philosophy, we are all slaves to public perception, slaves to each other because we survive on interaction with others. We always try to look "perfect" in order to catch the eye of the opposite sex in hopes of getting a date. Most of us would never dare to treat ourselves to food excessively because we don't want to become fat and unappealing, and most of us are obligated to shower everyday because most of the time telling a girl that you went without showing for just one day makes most of them go "ewww" and find you repulsive.
Another one is from KOTOR II, which i don't remember the exact wording, but Kreia states that with the Jedi, there will always be Sith, and vice versa. This definitely applies to real life as well. As sad and pesimistic as it may sound, there world will never be at peace and benevolent. Because there will always be evil and mal intentions. Same goes for the opposite, it's just impossible for the whole world to be pure evil because there will always be at least one person wanting to stand up for good and break the grip of evil.
It's amazing how so many judge video games as a waste of your time, life, and brain, when some of them can hold significantly deep ideas and philosophies that few ever grasp.
So have you ever learned something or realized something from a video game?
