Meh, everyone has their opinions I suppose. It's not a song that would appeal to everyone.

Daft Punk and online gaming are a match made in Super-Heaven. That's like Heaven, times ten.

tried, but realized it was too distracting.

EVE online was the only exception.

p.s. will take you your idea of playing Lion King music while playing Far Cry 2. lol

I always play games with my own music in the background. The first thing I do when I get a new game is turn off the ingame music... I honestly have no idea what the game music of the games I play sounds like.

I used to listen to music while playing online games. I stopped when I realised the iPhone doesn't work through the Xbox and I gave my sister my iPod.

I still use iTunes and Windows Media Player on PC when playing a browser game, if I can.

i tend to listen to the game music unless it doesn't have any or its crapola and then i have a massive range of music to chose from so some times i will end up playing some mechwarrior and Camille Martin

Actually, no. Strange considering I listen to music while doing literally everything else.

Depends on the game. If I'm playing the game several times for the mechanics rather than story, sure. I wouldn't listen to music through Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age because the story changes a lot based on decisions.

Games like Diablo 2, Civ 5, Starcraft 2 I listen to music.

Of coarse I know most games Id rather not where atmosphere is important but somtimes it can work

Fallout 3 new vegas- while playing it was fun to listen to classic western movie music (like stuff from ennio morricone) playing "extacy of gold" while taking on a group of enclave solders was particually epic

Far cry 2- playing "circle of life" you know from the lion king, is both hilarious and epic

Darksiders- Indestructible by disturbed fits quite well

Wow, Ennio Morricone is perfect for that game. I need to try that now...

Anyway, I don't normally. If I could attach moods to certain songs, then the game could play them at the right moments. In a gunfight? Pantera time! Driving around? BRMC or Kyuss time!
Johnny Cash also fits well ESPECIALLY his song "Gods gonna cut you down" pure awsomeness

This. I estimate that my FPS and MMO PvP performances are improved tenfold by my angry playlist.

I used to do it before, back when I played CoD4:MW and CoD:WaW multiplayer. CoD4 fit perfectly with a lot of Machinae Supremacy, and WaW fit nicely with Korn and Disturbed.

Rarely do it anymore though, mostly because I can't be arsed putting together a playlist for games as the games themselves usually have fitting music nowadays, and games should have it's own music darn it! D: (I'm looking at you Racedriver: GRID for only having music while I drive the last three minutes of Le Mans "24-hour" to build up tension >_>)

Crash team racing. Anyone remember that? PS1 game, crash bandicoot and his bunch of chums all driving around in go-karts? Anyhoo, when ever I played that game with my brother, we'd ALWAYS put on a bit of Rammstein to listen to. Now i can play any Rammstein with out thinking about CTR, and vice versa. Play both together and it's nostalgia city!

Also, does anyone know how long I should leave a Greggs corned beef pasty in the microwave for?

Usually i am happy with the games own soundtrack, the Original music of a game is part of the package of experience the developers want to give us, so i try not to alter it.
( if you dont agree with me , start up a survival horror game, favourable one without or with only few weapons, like Amnesia, now flee from the monsters while listening to the benny hill theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK6TXMsvgQg )
I only mute it and listen to my own if i dont care about immersive athmosphere and story. For example in dull hackn slay games (I cant imagine playing Diablo without Blind Guardian) or if it is a game i can enjoy but it has a horrible horrible soundtrack ( i got a nice library of fantasy athmo- and soundtrack music).
But @ Vault101 your Fallout as well as Far Cry choices are definatly great:)

My Ipod is put on Shuffle, the game is turned down a bit, hilarity and awesomeness sometimes ensues. I love it.
