Ever tried arguing with an idiot?

I've done it several times, with most people I meet on a daily basis in school have the intellect and depth of a two-dimensional boy from the caveman era.

Take this for example: I was talking to a friend of mine (he's not an idiot really, but he talked so dearly about something he doesn't even have any bloody information about), and we were arguing over good game series. For some weird reason, he thinks that every FPS the latest years are ripping off Halo 3, and he doesn't even own a 360, he's only played parts of the multiplayer with me and some friends, and he hasn't even seen that many FPS's.

Doesn't it strike anyone as a blind shot for someone to accuse Rainbow Six Vegas 2, a tactical modern-day shooter on Earth, with normal army weapons, fighting some secret organization or something (haven't played through the game), to be a rip-off of Halo 3, an FPS with purple, weird-shaped weapons set 500 years in the future, where you fight against some big alien cult that believe that rings equals gods? It's like comparing Gears of War to Doom! I know that it's fun to argue, but if you haven't got information about any games, you already know that you will lose against someone who's played games his entire life! This is just like categorizing an entire game genre as a ripoff of the first game IN the genre! Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to hit my head with a frying pan.

EDIT: Thanks for correcting me, curlycrouton.

I've argued things like this with a few people that know nothing of games... It's not really that bad and I don't blame them. You've just got to understand their point of view if they haven't been gaming as long or at all.

There is one saying I've come to take to almost utter truth.

You can't win against fools.

Before you accuse people of being idiots, you might want to correct your English.

You "argue" with someone. You do not "argument" with someone.

He is still a freind tho.

Remember this nugget of wisdom:

"Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to your level then beat you with experience".

That is all.

And of course I have. Everyone argues with idiots. Even other idiots. Adapt my friend. Adapt.

Yup. When you're insulting someone else's intelligence, always try to do it correctly. Otherwise you're just inviting people to flying scissor kick you in the face.

Why didn't you bring up a little game called Goldeneye. Or Doom, Quake, Halflife Deathmatch, and the countless other multiplayer FPSes that came out before Halo.

Qutie simply "Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experence."

This has happened a few times with me. When Cod 4 came out everyone started saying all other shooters riped it off and that it was the most realistic game to come out. It only lasted for a week or two, but damn it was annoying.

My mum is crap at arguments; she doesn't even listen to what the other person says before retaliating. My favourite example is:

Mum: They sent a thing out through the post.
Dad: They may well have done, but I never got it.
Mum: Yes they did!

Now, whenever she says something stupid we just tell her "Yes they did, mum."

I am one of those "idiots". And to be honest, its hilarious when you find out how much it pisses off the person who is arguing with you. On the other hand, I don't argue with anyone on the occasion you have brought up. Since I'm on the level of "those people" I know how to dodge the nonsense. But I'm not the idiotic like person who you might think I am.

As far as first person shooters, you brought up how all he played was the multiplayer or something. The multiplayer is the part of most FPS games today that are all alike. I dont think Halo is the master copy exactly, Halo is actually unique but few people understand that untill they play it. Call of Duty is a better example. And like I said, multiplayer.

Every argument with an angry Halo Hater for me has ended with them just shouting
"HALO SUX"
then leaving while I sigh and say
"whatever"

But that's the thing, he's not a Halo fanboy, cause he hasn't played through a single game or even knows what any of the characters names are. He's only played parts of Halo: CE and some multiplayer in Halo 3, and have only played two other FPS's. He tries to win by saying that Halo 3 is the best game ever, when I can point out several games I think are better in every way, while he only points out games he's never played, and says the same about Halo 3. I know that he's just trying to point out an opinion, but trying to prove that you know everything about something you don't even have any clue about, is a one-way ticket to becoming a certified jackass. Or possibly an annoying fanboy.
