I almost never turn the music off in games, but I do turn the music down.
[sub]In Morrowind, the default volume for the music is pretty loud. (in my opinion)[/sub]

I only turn it off if it is a game where characters are trying to talk while the music is playing, which can make it a pain to hear.
This constantly happened in Beyond Good & Evil. The music would completely drown out the voice acting, and there's was no way to control the music volume...

I have in the past, but games are getting better at using their sound in gameplay situations and soundtracks are getting better too, so not as much recently.

Don't mind turning off the music unless it takes from the immersion of the game or has it's own licensed music. Most MMOs I turn off the music and put on my own.

Usually only if it's an afterthought (not much effort being put into the music, to the point that it takes away from gameplay) or if I have the soundtrack in my iTunes or something (like with Minecraft).

Shining force and Shining force 2. So annoying and repetitive. And it adds nothing to the experience. No loss in turning it off

Generally I leave it on, however if I'm talking to someone on teamspeak or if it's a multiplayer game I'll usually turn it off.
